Could Dark side user fight for Resistance or Republic?

If some Dark Force user thought the Republic was the way to go, could they fight on their side?

What if they just really hated the FO? I think Maul fought along side the Rebels when it suited him or helped him achieve his own goals.

I think it's possible. I still like the idea that Benicio Del Toro is a dark sider of some kind.

That would be cool. The Force is what makes SW unique to other scifi movies. More of it the better. More mysterious it is the better.

It would be an interesting twist. I could see someone on the dark side who wanted to undermine the Emporor or Snoke by assisted their opponents. Could make for an interesting side story or book.

On day Kylo Ren will fight for the Resistance/Republic and he is a dark side user. So, yes. Haha!

The only problem I see with this is that the fight for the Resistance is a relatively selfless act, which flies in the face of the Dark Side.

However, this is also a relatively unaddressed issue with dark side users fighting for the Empire/First Order. For most parts, they're fighting for something greater than themselves, even if it isn't ideal.

what's interesting here is whether not the Light and Dark actually have moral attributes or whether it's the action you take with them that ascribes it.if Kylo Ren, for example, is completely deluded that he's fighting on the "right" side of this war using Dark power, is the power evil? is he?
because Ren expresses (in the book, not in the film, alas) that everything he's doing is for the good of the galaxy, not for his own glory (and therefore, in a distorted way) it's actually a selfless act. he didn't want to kill his father, but made that choice because he believes it's a means to a more important end.

it's kind of a tangled nest in his head, but i guess my point is that selflessness and morality may not actually be attributes of the Force so much as the Force wielders themselves. the power itself is neutral.

I wouldn't say that the light or dark side necessarily follow any "moral" attributes, but I think they do follow attributes.

Specifically (and I'll admit I'm drawing on Wookiepedia for this one, to be as relatively precise as possible) the light side draws on "calmness" while the dark side draws on "fear, anger, and aggression."

Now, I don't necessarily think that this means that the light side is always good and the dark side is always bad. Consider stress, for a real life example. Typically, one considers stress with a negative connotation. However, some stress is extremely good! Without it, we wouldn't feel the pressure to do the things that we need to do, like work or exercise.

I would say, though, that the attributes associated with the Light side do make it seem at least more prone for "good", while the dark side is more prone to "evil"- but that's certainly not written in stone.

right ~ your example of stress is a good one.

also: fear. everyone has fear. you can't have courage without it. it's just a question of whether you use your fear to run, hide, strike, or reason.
anger too. it can be used to perpetuate terrible things, but it can also be righteous.

perhaps Dark side attributes are harder to wield for "good" and that's a fair statement (in the same ways it would be difficult to wield Light attributes for evil, though i would say we've seen our share of utterly calm villains over the years ~ hahaha).

i like this idea because i always felt it was nuance lacking in this galaxy--not so much the divide of Dark and Light, but the idea of the Dark dominating your destiny if you gave it a wink and a nudge. because ultimately Anakin beat it (and no doubt with a bit of fear and anger of his own).

i don't want to see Star Wars go grey in a relativist way, but i do hope to see it address the complexity of good and evil in a way that maybe challenges us a little.

A Dark Side Force user? Huh? Who comes up with these labels? Dark? Light? Why can't people simply use the phrases "good" and "evil"? This use of "dark" and "light" is really getting ridiculous.
