SPECULATION Could Hux turn on Kylo?

I would say of those two possibilities is that he would try to take over the First Order. I don’t see it in his character to join the Resistance. I could see him trying to use Kylo’s instability to turn the FO troops against him. Not too sure we are going to see that in IX but I think that would be the most likely if Hux were to turn on him.

 

Well who does he hate more? Kylo or Poe? I think he might try to take over in some sneaky way if he had the chance

Quite likely. Thinking Richard E. Grant's character is going to drive a further wedge between them as well.

 

There's no Snoke between them, given the chance, I'm sure Hux will turn on Ren.

 

I thought it was a foregone conclusion that Hux would turn on Ben. However, I can't imagine Hux wanting to join the Resistance for any reason--or them accepting him. The "film footage" that seems to exist in the GFFA (per Resistance) of Hux ordering the firing of SKB would preclude that. The Resistance might make use of Hux, if it came to that, but he could never join them.

 

i wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Hux's first act in ix is either plotting or attempting to execute a coup.

but would they? this is what i really find interesting about the FO.
those older guys, like Canady, they just want to restore the Empire.
Hux wants something new, something different, better.
ironically, so does Ren. those two have more in common than not.

what would be really interesting to see would be them helping Hux overthrow Ren, then going after Hux as well.
the real enemy in the FO isn't the brainwashed idealist children who are playing war.
it's the seasoned opportunists who are probably going to try to grab any shred of power they can when the FO starts to cannibalize.

If you want Kylo Ren to be redeemed, then he has to be betrayed by either Hux or the KOR. Cool would be both. Hux turns the Knights against his master.

IMO this should be done by the ending of the second act. Kylo gets betrayed and flees (he doesn't join the Resistance though, he will never I guess). Hux becomes Supreme Leader and this will be his ultimate downfall.

Let Hux shine by showing his strategic master mind, but at the verge of victory something happens what happens to every villain: cockiness.

If it's done right, this could be very nice. On the one hand I would like to see Hux go down with his stardestroyer. On the other hand it would be awesome if Ben and Hux meet on the battleground.

Maybe you could do both and mirror the Kylo/Leia scene from TLJ, but this time Ben pulls the trigger.

Hux is Ed Grimely, with that said he will stab and dance. Then stab him again and dance some more. Then Kylo will turn around and Hux will only have been daydreaming. Because Hux will only do it if he is 100% sure he can get away with. He is smart but a little cowardly.

 

what has Hux ever done that was cowardly?
if anybody ever actually listened to him, the FO would have crushed the Resistance way back in TFA.

 

In TFA it was established the two didn't like each other and had very different goals. Hux was focused on ending the New Republic and taking over, Kylo was focused on killing the last Jedi. They had very different views and were trying to up one each other, vying for Snoke's attention. In TLJ, Hux attempts to draw his blaster to kill Kylo, seeing him as the cause for their Supreme Leader's death, and even when Kylo does take over as Supreme Leader, Hux remains combative with Kylo, something he never would have done with Snoke.

IMO, having Hux attempt to undermine Kylo's authority and stage a coup for control feels like the most natural progression for the relationship between the two characters. Chances are by the time IX starts Kylo will be very unhinged, likely making decisions many within the First Order would find questionable, which would give Hux his opening.

But this is just speculation on my part, JJ could very well opt to do something different.
