@cawatrooper : Just picking up on one point in your original post regarding familiar species. Has it been confirmed there are familiar SW species in Solo? Or is it just familiar alien characters (Chewie) and humans? 'Cuz all I've seen from trailers n pics are new species...

By the way, I think you'r overthinking it ;)

You can spot a twi'lek dancer at the "fancy club" bit of the trailer.

Mostly speculation, other than the Twi'Lek, but given how it feels more grounded in the planets I wouldn't be surprised.

That, and the Coway, which is kind of a deep cut I guess.

if its good i think it will give the fanbase a much needed lift going into the 18 month break between films.

Everyone seems a bit sick of how things have been since the last Jedi. I hated that film and im so sick of feeling down on the star wars franchise i want to be excited by it again. I also know people who loved the film are sick of all the arguments and negativity that they are facing since the release of episode 8.

So fingers crossed this film kind of lifts everyones sprits and we can sort of take a breath before episode 9.

Judging by the trailer, this looks fantastic.

Judging by that like/dislike ratio, people definitely look willing to give this one a shot.

Looks like the echo chamber isn't as indicative of the masses as they'd want to believe. :p

    Only 5?

You need to up your bot game, bro.

How else are the masses going to know you're mad about Luke and his "laser sword" if you aren't constantly giving TLJ (and other movies released around the same time, accidentally) a bad rating?

Disney ought to release their new films in August, when most of Europe, a population of over 500 million people, are all (mostly) on holiday and have the free time to watch films inside air-conditioned cinemas and multiplexes out of the hot sun.

May is alright, but there's no "Spring Break" holiday thing in Europe during May. August would be better. (See above)

December is an insane time for a new Star Wars film release, its bloody freezing. everyones busy with Christmas preparations and spending money on Christmas gifts. And skint because of it....

But what is the occasion if film set to release in August?
Think of the Christmas time movie as a Christmas gift.

August is a time to relax, unwind, have fun, do things you had no time to do in the rest of the year. Schools are on holiday too. It's the hottest, driest month and has very few historic traditions to observe. Few European governments are even active during August as they take a summer break at the same time as schools.

It’s also when family tend to go on there summer holidays so you would lose the family audience you may as well say it should be released in the last week July anyway Disney have decided to release Solo in May & IX in December so there is not a lot of point wishing it was otherwise & any way I thought you hated TFA & TLJ so why do you care when they are released as I didn’t think you were going to watch them anyway.

    @Addi Ras
What has my dislike of TFA, RO and TLJ have to do with a thread about release times for a film? Why must you imply that any opinion that I have be automatically invalid because I disliked a film that you may have enjoyed?

Does my dislike of three terrible Star Wars films (my opinion) from a selection of a dozen Star Wars films automatically make me unworthy from conversing in other topics of conversation? No.

Must I love every single Star Wars film ever made to make a comment here? No.

I do actually like and love more Star Wars films than I dislke or hate. Do you not understand that?

You seem to have a very binary logic if not.

No you can post in whatever thread you like & I have actual agreed with some of your post in regards to the OT
but you have mentioned several times that you have no wish to watch SOLO so I don’t get why you would care when a film you don’t want to see is released.
Yes it SW so as a fan base we tend to be more passionate about the most if not all film series but personally if there is a bit of SW I don’t enjoy as much as the rest then I personally would rather put my effort into posting about what I love about SW then what I didn’t.

I choose not to see Solo because I know how it will end. It's more obvious than the end of "Titanic", because there is already a pre-established canon which they cannot break. So its hardly going to be an original or risky film when you know the main characters Han, Chewie and Lando are going to be alright because they all show up unharmed in the OT.

    "Spoiler" (!)

Han Solo meets a wookiee named Chewbacca and they eventually become skipper and co-pilot on a freighter called the Millennium Falcon. They do not die and neither does their friend Lando Calrissian, who Han Solo won the Millenium Falcon from in a game of Sabaac. The ship gets modified by Han Solo with more weapons and is made faster to become the fastest ship in the galaxy. They also do illegal smuggling runs because the Empire has taxed everything to fund their enormous military budget, which spans the entire galaxy. On a run to the Spice Mines of Kessel, they also break the record for navigating the "Kessel Run" in only 12 parsecs to avoid being pursued by the Empire...

And I haven't even SEEN the film.

    That's not how it ends...

That has almost nothing to do with the plot.

That's just a vague series of statements about a few of the characters in the film.

And regarding film release- studios aren't going to tailor a film's release to each region individually to coincide with optimal time for that particular part of the world.

Sorry if it's inconvenient for you specifically, but the May/June/July blockbuster and the Christmas slot are two of the hottest times for a film to be released. August is much lower on that scale worldwide.

Star Wars used to be released regionally, before internet film piracy made it necessary to release everywhere at the same time to lessen the spread of illegal copies to those still waiting for an opening day.

I still have my opening day TPM tickets from 15 July 1999 in the UK. Which was released two months after the US release on 19 May 1999.

That's interesting, but I have a feeling many fans in your country would be upset to get the film two months later again, even if it is at a more convenient time.
