Yeah man, as always I feel for ya. Truly a terrible thing, that you feel so disenfranchised.

    And you're hardly alone.

But again, there are people who totally dig what's being done, and probably would've liked Rey Skywalker a whole lot less. Family could've been a narrative crutch, the easy way out.

I'm happy Lucasfilm followed Lucas' vision and kept Luke from having a child. Being the last Jedi didn't mean he could just change the rules. Also, it very possible to have a very fulfilling life without having kids.

If there's a 4-5 time jump we could find Supreme Leader Ren with a wife and it's possible he has a kid. Rey training a Solo could be a thread for the next trilogy.

Luke Skywalker is my favorite character in all of Star Wars. I love the fact that he knows right from wrong. Nobody else in the Galaxy far, far away seems to get that. To the Jedi, right was whatever the Council said it was, and to the Sith, right and wrong were simply illusions the weak tell themselves to make console themselves for their weakness.

Maybe it's because Luke was raised on a moisture farm, far away from the us vs. them mentality of the Jedi and the Sith.

Yoda and Ben's ghost trained Luke to be a warrior, an assassin. They told him he had to kill Vader or all was lost. They even lied to him about his parentage so he wouldn't get cold feet. But when the time came, Luke threw down his lightsaber. He saw the good in Darth Vader and challenged Vader to see the good in himself.

And that was enough to overthrow the Empire.

So yes, I wholeheartedly dig Luke Skywalker - not because he won, but because of how he won. After the entire Galaxy gave up on Vader, after Yoda sent Obi-Wan to Mustafar to kill him, after all the planets he enslaved and after all the people he killed, Luke still felt the good in him. Luke believed in him long after Obi-Wan and Yoda gave up on him.

But my appreciation of Luke Skywalker doesn't mean I want him to have kids. That's just an unrelated tangent for me.

I've just never been of the opinion that Luke should ever have a child. And given the setup of the ST, he not only didn't need one, but it would have caused major narrative problems for him to have one, as there is no way any kid would have been anything but in his shadow.

It's funny cuz 4 every person I hear who say "GL wanted Luke to have kids" there is always a person who says he didn't.
