SPECULATION Could The Force Awakens be a loose adaptation of Heir to the Empire?

Okay so this is a pretty off the wall theory and I have zero proof to any of this. But I have this crazy idea that The Force Awakens could be loosely based on one of the greatest Star Wars novels ever written.
Could this be correct? Maybe... probably not... you guys be the judge.


So you've probably read the book Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn.
Why are you bringing this up you ask? The old Expanded Universe is dead right? Right, it is! But the LucasFilm story group did say all the EU stuff is available to be mined for future ideas!



Here is where my crazy theory begins...

When Star Wars Episode 7 was first announced fan boys and girls ‘round the world were instantly excited for a big screen appearance of Thrawn and Mara Jade. These ideas were all but extinct until now!
There has been an awakening!

Perhaps The Force Awakens really is Heir to the Empire, but not verbatim of course since there wasn't a BB-8 droid, and no one named Poe. This could be a new retelling of it, re-imagining characters and plot lines, instead of throwing such a great book into the metaphorical recycle bin.



Early rumors had Benedict Cumberbatch pegged to be portraying Grand Admiral Thrawn, but those rumors quickly died as reports that Gwendoline Christie got that part. Why would they cast a woman as Thrawn instead of the great Cumberbatch, it must not be Thrawn then. Well in my theory, you’re right and wrong. She isn't Thrawn, but she is, a new version of his character, leading the Imperial fleet. Will she be a blue alien with red eyes? Probably not, but I hope so. Thrawn-ette or Lady-Thrawn… take your pick! Or… it could be Andy Serkis…

Next we have my favorite part of my theory. We have all read about Liam Neeson’s recent interview with the release of his latest film, Taken 3. While talking Star Wars, he said he would love to back as Qui-Gon Jinn and went on to talk about the Sithcalibur lightsaber. Could this be a hint?



Let’s look at the Sithcalibur wielder, Kylo Ren. Thanks to that action figure prototype leak we can guess that Kylo is over 6 foot tall. Guess who is over 6 foot tall. If you said Adam Driver, you’re right but we have seen him in an X-wing flight suit, he can’t be Kylo Ren. But, Liam Neeson is over 6 foot tall!



Okay, now you’re saying he can’t be Kylo Ren, he’s already Qui-Gon Jinn! Ren… Jinn. Yeah, you’re right again! But also wrong. Here’s where Heir to the Empire comes back into play. In the book we meet Joruus C’baoth, a crazy clone of Jorus C’baoth, a Jedi Master who died before the Clone Wars. Joruus makes a deal to work with Thrawn if Thrawn can capture Luke, Leia, and her unborn Jedi twins. Here’s where things get a little nuts. In the book it is revealed that no-first-name Palpatine was the one who cloned Master C’baoth. Perhaps in this new continuity, instead of C’baoth being cloned, since he doesn't appear in any new canon materials, it was Qui-Gon Jinn who was cloned! Palpatine was at his funeral, he could have easily Taken… hehe… some of Qui-Gon’s remains and cloned him for future evil purposes.

Bing, bang, boom. The mystery box has held its most guarded secret well, until today! Liam Neeson is out of the mystery box!

Quui-Gon has awakened. Oh wait, you misspelled his name. Nope! Quui-Gon is the clone of Qui-Gon. We had a clone of dead Jedi Master Jorus C’baoth called, Joruus C’baoth. Yeah I think adding the extra U is stuupid. Quui-Gon thought it was stupid too, so he changed his name to Kylo Ren.
Now how did Kylo Awaken? That’s the mystery.




Next we get to the beloved Mara Jade. Obviously we have not had anyone cast that could fit her physical description of being a young person with red hair. Oh yes we have! Look no farther for Mara Jade people, our new version of her is portrayed by Domhnall Gleeson! No he's not going to be a woman, but a re imaging of the character. In the old EU Mara was "The Emperor's Hand." She was basically the old version of the Star Wars Rebels character, The Inquisitor! There have been many rumors that inquisitors will be in TFA. I believe Domhnall Gleeson will play the role of former Inquisitor turned to work for a crime lord and will later join the good guys. Will he be Luke's love interest? Probably not. Maybe one of those many female actresses who have joined the cast.

Okay that's all I have for this ridiculous theory...
Speculate... rip this theory to shreds... convince me that Liam Neeson is NOT in TFA please!!

This could also point towards the JJ didn't use Lucas's script rumor because JJ wanted to see Heir on the big screen too! Talk about fan-service!
