SPECULATION Could The Force Awakens be a loose adaptation of Heir to the Empire?

I'm reading dark force rising at the moment. It's becom more and more apparent that for me, the movies are all that matters. It's probably why I don't like Rebels at al as well.
The appeal of the films is not something that can be emulated in a book or a tv series. The films are fast paced, the music is an integral part too and no doubt there are other things.

Getting back on topic, I don't think the new movies will take much inspiration from the Legendary Universe and it's best they don't.

 

I love speculation threads. Qui-Gonn appearing under that helmet would blow everyone’s mind. GA included. I don’t think it alienates anyone. The “He is a clone” v. “He is resurrected” v. “He never died” debates would be wild from December 2015 until 2017. We would have those “Yoda said Qui Gon was learning to communicate from beyond the grave but really he was alive” debates. Force Ghosts could recapture living beings. There are more Jedi DNAs stored on Kamino. All kinds of debates. How fun would that be. Haha. Interesting and fun.
I haven’t read the Thrawn series either, but I remember it from back when I could almost keep up with the EU. It got so out of control I couldn’t keep up so I stopped. I think the Story Group refresh was necessary. Its like Marvel, if its connected to the actual story, im in. If its legend material or things that don’t tie in to whats really occurring, I don’t care much. If the EU is open for the taking, I am okay with characters being pulled and changed for the film. I am also ok with old PT characters living and tying it all in nicely.

yes! awesome!! i am totally behind the gender swap for both of these characters! Thrawn being a woman could be a mashing of the character with Mara Jade, giving Luke a good nemesis/love interest, while Gleeson playing the Mara Jade/Emperor's Hand character could be the Mara Jade to Rey, if you follow me; instead of Luke falling for Mara Jade Female, Rey falls for Mara Jade Male (obviously he'd have a different name).

 

Yes I agree I liked the way they put Luke in danger with Mara before pulling them both out as one, Rey should have a love interest.

Yes that love camp Rey & Finn are expected to think romantic thoughts, Gleeson will probably groom a female apprentice as a love interest.

 

I've come back to the current thrawn trilogy I'm reading yet again (sorry). I think this picture sums it up for me. You have Alec Guinness, Robert De Niro and two newborns who look like the offspring of Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger; the creators failing desperately to give you a feeling of hope and joy, when instead all I feel is cringe.

Let's not forget yoda, who's had one too many bars of butter.

 

Qui Gon is dead...

Sorry, couldn't resist... you actually put a lot of thought into this, but I disagree. However, I totally agree that certain elements of the EU will be used, they have just left themselves so much wiggle room with the disclaimers for them not to be using some of it... I think Captain Phasma will be a nod to fanfic, and she will most likely be the daughter of someone who is Admiral of the remnant fleet. There are only so many ways that the remnant fleet can manifest, and HthE was too classic in the way that they structured it... so I think there will be some crossover

I do think Mara Jade will be there in name... the character, however, will be a little different. I think at the start of TFA, she will be dead, and Rey (her daughter) will be presumed dead by Luke, which may be why he went rogue... there are so many ways this can play out, and potentially Mara will not even be dead either... who knows?

 

I was holding out hope for Christie to be Thrawn.

I do think they are using some ideas from the EU but I think Kylo Ren is Exar Kun. Who was a collector of Sith artifacts. Who awoke a dead Sith and learned darkside lore. He was deafeated by a female former junker from Tatooine Nomi Sunrider (sounds like Rey).

 

There are at least three versions of that floating around on Youtube. I'm hoping you got ahold of Mark Thompsons' 20th anniversary version. Avoid Larry McKeaver's BoT reading of it like the plague.

I kinda hope they just drop some easter egg-like mentions of Thrawn. Sort of solidifying parts of the Thrawn saga in cannon, but not showing it. "Remember when we beat Thrawn 20 years ago. Good times." I always liked it when Han would refer to adventures that the viewer has no idea what he's talking about: "Kessel Run" "Bounty hunter on Ord Mantel." Stuff like that. A Thrawn name-drop could work the same way.

 

I hope so to but lets see if more will be revealed about TFA.

 

Funny you should mention Easter Eggs... I guarantee you there are Easter Eggs in TFA... take it to the bank

 

Wait...this just came to me...you said that qui Gon could have been cloned like c'baoth.... Well what if it's was Darth maul who got cloned, or the emperor cloned himself before he was killed as a precaution if anything did happen to him. Vader may have even been the one cloned....if anyone was really cloned...maybe a clone was cloned, or a clone of a clone of a clone?

 

What about instead of finding the Katana Fleet its A Race to Find The Lost Droid Army Of the Prequels This is The Super Weapon.

Cool and creative theory. I really don't like any of the post ROTJ EU (I just think it's too predictable and almost like well written fan fiction) so I personally hope the new saga isn't a retelling of that but this was intriguing.

So far I've gleaned that this one film is like a fast paced retelling of the broad strokes entire OT with different characters, I believe if Lucas helmed this film we'd be seeing a lot more influences from the EU but as it is I really doubt it. I don't think Abrams knows much about Star Wars beyond the films and Kasdan doesn't even know who Darth Plagueis is!

I don't like the idea that you could clone a force sensitive though, ordinary people are fine but being able to clone force users opens up a pandoras box of rehashing and meaningless deaths, if it was possible Palpatine would have simply cloned Vader instead of rebuilding him...
