    There didn't need to be a sequel trilogy. It all ended "Happily Ever After" style at the end of Episode VI.

    And George didn't make Episode's VII, VIII and IX, so the sequels imo are not "proper Star Wars".

    If you didn't like Disney's sequel trilogy, then don't watch them. Ignore them and deny their existence from your "personal canon" and Star Wars ends at Episode VI. As it originally did.

    Agree. We will always have the books of Legends, also. You have the choice to decide what you want for the story. If someone don't like the sequels all he has to do is forget.
    I think the person has three choices (not bad at all):

    1 - The finale is the happy ending of Return of the Jedi, as @SKB said;

    2 - The sequels with the bitter and frustrated Luke in exile, Ben killing Han and super Rey in action;

    3 - Legends with Super Luke married to Mara Jade. Han, Leia and the three kids (Jaina, Jacen and Anakin)...etc

    The Sequel Trilogy to me has major structural problems which seem to have been created so it could imitate episode IV. The problem with that is that it causes story problems for anything after episode VI. So yeah I would like to see them redone, I'd prefer a high quality animation based on Lucas story treatments to what we have, that would get around the issue of Carrie's death and Harrison's indifference. I think Star Wars needs serious course correction, with the right leadership it has plenty of potential, they have the EU and more importantly they still have access to the main creative force behind Star Wars with George Lucas. I'd like them move to an earlier time period, create a trilogy set in the Old Republic with a George Lucas story and have him help with production and art design. And in 5 to 10 years come back and redo the Sequel Trilogy, pretend this one never happened, present it as GL's original vision which it would be. With good management planning and significant planning of story arcs with George Lucas they could create something huge that could make amazing ambitious movies for decades to come, it could be bigger than the MCU and even if it wasn't it be a fantastic movie achievement.

    Since it started life as a Star Wars project, my preference would be for it to stay that way if these ideas were ever to come to fruition. Not as a direct remake, as mentioned, but perhaps an animated show or something that takes place between the OT and ST.

    As an entirely new franchise, though, that could still be quite interesting.

    Ah, this brings me back to when we had threads asking if the prequel trilogy could get remade...

    The answer was no then and still is now. None of the movies will be ever remade, at least not for a very, very long time.

    As to whether George’s ideas could see the light of day or not? Maybe not in the way George had originally intended, but I could definitely see his ideas being utilized elsewhere. (Just like how his ideas for an older Luke, a young female protagonist, etc. were used in the sequels we got.)

    And this is probably the best advice/opinion on this I've seen so far. I view the Star Wars "Skywalker saga" as being I-VI. VII, to me, was a fun film, one I enjoyed in the cinema. I don't really watch it anymore, but it was fun as heck at the time. VIII... I do enjoy Solo and I love love love Rogue One. I've not been super impressed with the nu-cannon books. Some are good, others... not so much. IN a way I see them a lot like I saw the old EU books. Some were good and became part of my head cannon of what happened after Return of the Jedi. Others, not so much.

    As for COULD the sequel trilogy be remade, of course it could. "Will the sequel trilogy ever be remade?" Who the heck knows? I guess anything is possible, and I can't see into the future, but at this point I'd not bet on it being remade.

    No, no, and no. Or not until the saga in its entirety are ever remade. This is the canon and it shall remain the canon and so far I am super happy with it. In addition I want time, energy, money and commitment focused on new things. Not on trying to satiate some people. If you dont like the ST then dont watch it. If you dont like it so much so that you dont like Star Wars any longer, I feel sorry for you and I wish you good bye and good luck finding something that satisfies you.

    I believe there's an easy and probable way this could be done:

    Disney announces it's latest Disney+ show: Star Wars Infinities. Based on the idea, if not the stories, from the Infinities comic series. Alternate sequel trilogies or stand alone stories with the characters we know from the OT or PT.

    Anything involving Leia would have to be recast or have the character already dead at the beginning of the show. It could be done live action, which would be awesome, or animated.

    I think you would have to start over with an entire reboot and recasting.

    Unfortunately it has already been molested. You can't put toothpaste back into the tube. For disney to reboot star wars they would first have to admit that they screwed up and clearly that's never going to happen.

    We can dream of a reboot. We can wish but I can't see it ever happening. It would be nice to see lucas finish the story but instead we have to settle for the story being completed by the guy who wrote justice league. Lucky us.

    Sure but it will involve rebooting the whole saga so it still likely won't come out as you expect.

    Probably not, as the timeline has to be connective, otherwise you have the EU...or now as it's called "Legends" and isn't canon.
