He might be right. I seem to remember the name being thrown around at some point... can't remember the circumstances though. Palpatine might have said it with an air of sarcasm as if he (the character of Supreme Chancellor) didn't put much belief in it or so.

It's pretty much impossible to find without watching any of those scenes, though. :(

I may have to rewatch AOTC today and see if it is stated to the jedi. But I do not remember that off the top of my head.

    And @ @Link Voxx

I think I'm probably actually remembering something from TCW. So probably not AotC, and you probably don't have to go back and watch it just for that. :)

Kristian Harloff who claims to be anexpert on canon says that Tarkin knows about Vader being Anakin. He doesn't say how he knows, but he says "Tarkin knows."

True. I guess he probably more identified with Vader than Anakin anyways. I would love to hear Tarkin call Vader "little annie"

Did Dooku ever really fully self-identify with the Darth Tyrannus title, though? Maul, as I believe current canon holds, was basically raised as a Sith. Anakin "became" Darth Vader largely through a psychotic break.

Dooku may have been dubbed Darth Tyrannus, but he never seemed to be "consumed" by that identity. He seemed to view it more as a means to an end than anything.

That's a good question. Also could you imagine living for 80+ years as Count Dooku and all of a sudden you're "Darth Tyranus" ? I'd be like "The hell I am" and still consider myself Count Dooku

Great topic! I think everyone else has pretty much answered it, but I'll add that the Jedi still calling him Count was probably a show of disrespect. Which gives more weight to Obi Wan vs Vader in ANH when he calls him Darth. Rather than try and anger him by using his former name, Obi Wan just calls him by his assumed title (throwing a little stank on it, for good measure) as if saying "Anakin is truly dead to me. You're just a traitor, nothing more, nothing less."

At the time the Sith were working in the shadows, so in order to do that the rest of the Galaxy still had to know them by their birth names.

Regarding who knows Vader is Anakin, Obi-wan and Yoda heard the Emperor call him Darth Vader in the recording at the temple. Any news of Vader after the fight on Mustafar would have confirmed he was still alive to both of them. I also believe that Bail Organa knows.

Off course Bail knew because no doubt he was informed by Obi Won which is why Leia was pointed to his direction when she was in trouble.

The Jedi did not know Dooku's Sith title until TCW season 6 episode 10 the lost one. Obi Wan heard the name Tyrannus from Jango in AOTC, but he never put two and two together that it was Dooku until that moment in the clone wars. Also Dooku never mentioned he was "Darth" Tyrannus. He just reveals that he was the man Tyrannus who ordered the clone army.

All part of the ruse I suppose, anything for the master plan. Or perhaps he genuinely was surprised that they showed up then and there, not surprised that they had clone troops.

Did they even know he was a Sith prior to seeing his red sabre?

Don't they just think he's a disgruntled Jedi rebelling against a corrupt system, leading the separatist forces against the defunct republic?

Obi-Wan doesn't know he's a Sith when Tyrannus tells him the republic is under the control of a Sith.

I doubt anyone knew he was a Sith... even Grievous (probably) thought he was an ex-jedi. "I have been well trained in your JEDI arts"

The first time the visual sign of the Sith (red sabre) was seen is during the duels.

Could that be why Tyrannus is never used? Maybe it just did not occur to them that he had not only left the Jedi order, but also became a Sith?

It's been a while since I watched it, so I could be wrong on a few points there...

As someone already mentioned, they didn't know his Sith name was Darth Tyrannus. Only Sidous ever used the title when addressing him.
