Are you willing to accept anything? If the last episode proclaims that the Force is a fraud, Anakin was not the chosen one and the emperor actually survived, you will accept it without asking any questions?

    Is it done well?

They brought back Darth Maul.....gave Yoda and Palpatine lightsabers (also shocking a lot of the fanbase at the time), had Anakin commit domestic violence (and possible spouse murder), kill younglings....I mean......there's a lot that's possible if done well.

Still not counting on that release date. We'd have seen a trailer or at least gotten wind of a trailer by now. The movie is going to be pushed back, they're just waiting for TLJ release cycle to close out so as not to over shadow it.

In my opinion it's not so much about asking questions - we all have our opinions about choices made in the past twenty years, and I can honestly say I didn't like all of them - but accepting that we can't always get things the way we want them. As long as I consider Star Wars something I love and actually WANT to love, even if it might not always be perfect, I can accept a lot without having tantrums or get hurt. When constructive criticism turns into hateful negativity, being a fan seems more like a burden than something that adds to our lives. I just don't get all this masochism. People should just let go then.

I think all the whining about this and that along with all the hyperbole about abandoning SW is attention seeking behavior sort of like when children do things, even negative, to get some kind of attention from their parents.

You can call out people as much as you want. But it's a fact that I've been as SW fan since 1987 when I was 7. What I watched last night was Battle Star Wars Galactica. It had cheap, cheesy and cringy moments. And that's a first for me.

And I'm not happy I'm saying this. NEVER ever thought I would cringe at Star Wars.

Write Larry Kasden a blank cheque and get him back :(

The first time I cringed at Star Wars was in 2002 ;-). I actually defended the hell out of that movie and actually liked a lot of it... but the romance parts were pretty unbearable and the whole theater kind of held its collective breath when the fire place scene rolled along.
I have yet to see the movie. I'm prepared to love it and probably will despite whatever flaws may present themselves. Back then I couldn't have lived with not liking a Star Wars movie. I'm pretty sure I could today but somehow that fact kind of helps me enjoy the new films despite whatever criticism I may harbor - it's kind of when you start to let go of all the butt hurt that came along with being a prequel apologist, it gets you to a place where everything's zen and you can finally appreciate Star Wars for what it is: Entertainment.

But I totally respect your opinion - though I really hope I won't share it .

I've been a SW fan since 1980. Being old doesn't make us any more authentic or better fans. It just makes us old.

Yes, some fans are going through the grief process - denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and eventually acceptance.

There was something I tought when the PT ended:

"We will always have the Classic Trilogy!"

I probably will never see again AOTC and ROTS, movies that I really don't enjoy.

So, for the people that dislike TLJ or the ST so far: "You will always have the CT or PT to rewatch!"

The moment Jar Jar Binks appeared, my hatred of the PT was cemented.

This is such an absolute strawman. Just because asinine storytelling decisions are made under the guise of being for "teh nu generashun" does not make them better or more profound in any capacity. When you assume that every negative criticism is born out of things like jealousy and a sense of personal superiority, it just gradually shuts down anything that isn't a glowing review. I've seen entire servers and forums turn into self-fellating echo chambers going down the exact line of thought in your post and frankly, it doesn't improve things at all.

Accusing people of holding racist conspiracies in the case of Finn's unsatisfactory arc through the trilogy thus far or wishing death upon the people at Lucasfilm is incomparably stupid but so is whatever you're insinuating here. Seriously, I'm not about to leave this fandom anytime soon but I'll gladly consider both ludicrous levels of praise and exaggerated amounts of derision to be equally suspect.

Are you talking about the new Battlestar Galactica? You are saying one of the best sci-fi tv shows of all time compares to TLJ?

I so totally agree with you on this.

I’m saddened how petty this fan community sometimes appears. We complain before we’ve even seen the film. Start petitions just because we think we know better, or decide we don’t like the direction and want to go back to old... Argue about trivial things and fight among each other because there’s more women, more minorities, too little saber fights, and who knows what more or too little!

If there’s hubris, Star Wars fans are guilty of it more than any other group.

I just came from the theater and my mind is still a blur of the events and the development. It is way too soon for me to declare my total opinion, but I did like the movie. It’s fresh take. The character driven story. I can understand that it won’t please everyone - realistically that is impossible-, but the tone of some complaints and comments just makes me want to cringe.

Ah, I guess I should have learnt to expect this after all the noise from TFA, but still seeing all this loud negativity is rather off putting.

Positivity sadly is often just drowned out by all the noise.
