"CRAZY" things from SWTFA

God I loved TFA!!!! It's not really a crazy moment but when Poe and the Resistance are attacking in the x wings Poe rollcalls. "Red 4 ready, Red 6 ready etc etc". there was no famous "Red 5". Thought that was crazy cool!!!!

 

No wonder! You're injecting it into yourself!

 

Crazy to me was the whole "Han's cargo freighter" nonsense.

It just seemed tacky & wierd.

The "Mexican Stand-Off" with the space pirates & giant slugs spun the movie off its wheels.
The only good part was the giant slug on the cockpit of the falcon, then having Han jump to light speed.

There are 100 different ways that entire section could have been made with much better results.

 

I liked the fact that the asian actors did not speak a word of proper English.

 

-Just how freaking EPIC the MF maneuvering through a crashed SD while dodging TIE fighters was.
-Just how EVERYONE had chemistry with EVERYONE!!
-How crazily cool Oscar Isaac is.
-How much like a horror-film Kylo stalking Rey through the forest outside of Maz castle was.
-Just how many blatant "undertones" were present in that interrogation scene.
-X-Wings using precision-targeting to pick off Stormtroopers while they're on the ground, AWESOME!!
-The entire lightsaber duel in the snow, brilliant.
-The last scene, you totally sold me on the "Luke is only in the movie for 30 seconds and he doesn't even speak" idea movie, well-done.

 

Hello! Personally, I absolutely loved this whole scene and don't agree with others out there that said it should have been cut or shortened to make room for other scenes. It's like J.J. and the writers were going through a checklist of all the things the original Star Wars movies and comics and books were all about, and one of those things was Han's background as a smuggler with all sorts of bounty hunters and shadowy clubs and groups in the organized crime world, plus the crazy variety of monsters in Star Wars. We got hints of that in the movies but didn't get to see nearly enough of it. It reminds me of what the early comics and expanded stories were like before ESB and ROTJ, before the main plot line of Vader-Luke father-son and Emperor-Empire-Rebellion really got kicking.

There is a whole universe of characters, organizations, and monsters out there, and I love that TFA included some of that background as a great reintroduction to Han's world. And if anyone thinks that the Rathgars (or Rathtars) looked weird or "non-star wars like," they need to take another look at the snippets we got of the trash compactor monster in ANH, Hoth Wampa and Dagobah swamp monster and asteroid mynocks in ESB, and Sarlaac and Rancor in ROTJ. The new ones fit right in to me!

Yeah SW has always had these little "detours" that really have not much if anything to do with the main plot. Heck the entire Jabba sequence in ROTJ, which takes up almost the entire first act, is an example of this. It's only real purpose is to show off Luke in full-Jedi mode, and get Han back. Once it's done, it's never mentioned or referenced again and has no bearing on the rest of the film.

 

And in this case we do get a few constructive things out of the Rathtar monster scenes. New and old audiences see Han and Chewie in action, Han trying out the Bowcaster (for later reasons), Rey and Finn's bond grow closer in peril, Rey using her awakening force abilities to free Finn from the monster ("Yeah, lucky, wasn't it?"), Chewie getting injured so Rey can co-pilot and fix the falcon (compressor issues), the (edit: guavian death gang, not kanju club) letting the first order know that Han and the Falcon have BB8 and Rey and Finn and the data, etc. Lots of good plot and character details that do push the story forward. Could have been done other ways, but here it's all done in a way that still brings that early Star Wars monsters, smuggling, organized crime, action and swashbuckling adventure back!

 

And the Han/Rey bond starts as well. Really it's only big sin imo, was completely wasting The Raid trio.

 

I do agree for Phasma. I hope she'll go in jail in Ep VIII.

The "gangsters"/space pirates were not very good. The acting was sub standard & the point seemed to be convoluted rather than exciting or thrilling.
I did like the the use of the smuggler bins & Daisy Ryder(Rey)'s cute; "hey we were just going to plot to murder you" look to Han Solo.

I would have had better, more established Hollywood actors playing the evil pirates, more CGI-SFX style aliens; Sylicicous Crumb(who was rumored to make a brief cameo) or maybe some Greedo like Rhodians.
One of the smugglers could have started with: "Going somewhere Solo?" ... .

Honestly, when I saw the trailer for TFA, I thought it was Han piloting the MF. Then when I saw the movie for the first time, it turned out it was Rey piloting the MF and omg, I gotta say while it was crazy crazy, I was impressed. Question is, I wonder how she'd do if she was multitasking...while piloting the MF...


But I love TFA for what it is including flaws and all, not just plot-wise but also in the characters we love and the ones we've grown to love. Everyone had very good chemistry and i enjoyed the establishment of new friendships and reuniting with the old characters from the OT. Call me crazy but I never thought I would become so quick to attach myself to Rey in a way that I can relate to her. But also to Ben, aside from Leia and Han and Luke who showed up at the end. Not to mention chewie!!

I love that fuzzball.

 

I noticed that as well. I'm guessing they retired Luke's "number"! - Lol

 

I think it's crazy that once Rey and Finn steal the Falcon and get off Jakku, they just stop the ship to make repairs.

Isn't there a bunch of FO Stormtroopers and a huge Star Destroyer right there in orbit looking for them?
