Glad that England World Champions in Cricket (Even not be as big like if England won WC in football), they started doing well in the Ashes. I believe they do it like with World Cup. Ashes is also important.

Not a Cricket fan but England fan, and think of being fan of Yorkshire Team (Region/County think of it as a State). Good to your country national team do well and win big.

I missed the last days play. Hopefully for the sport it goes down to the wire. From an Aussie's perspective I hope we smash them in the next two Tests by an innings and 300 runs. Smith is back and we only need to win one more Test to retain the urn.

Yes, the Urn returns to where it belongs. It has been too long and Teams that should have won the Ashes didn't so it seems a little odd to have such a poor team win it but....YES!!!!!!

Our Pommy friends on this thread have gone very quite?

Well there not a lot to say
Given that apart from a couple of players on both teams the overall quality just doesn’t seam to be there in Test Match cricket & really apart from Stoke amazing performance at Headingley you would have won the last game as well so the fact we can still draw the series is some what unexpected
Also hopefully we will now put the same amount effort that went into the 1 day team into the test team otherwise the next series in AUS is going to be even more in your favour

The good fortune that got them over the line in the limited overs world up apparently failed England in this series.

It looks like baseball with a flat club that is too heavy to lift it above your shoulders.

Cricket is an English game which replaced baseball as our favourite bat and ball sport. Baseball was an earlier game which we English also invented, played and exported, until cricket became more popular than baseball.

Because of cricket's popularity, baseball declined in popularity in England and it evolved into a children's school playground game called Rounders.

Baseball and Cricket origins are not clear and open to debate. The most likely outcome is that Baseball evolved from both cricket and rounders. What seems to be clear is that Cricket was the more popular sport in America before the Civil War but due to a few elements Baseball took over in popularity.

Baseball was never really part of the English system, there is a few mentions of Baseball but that seems more like a local name for rounders. Cricket dates back to at least 1550 but is probably much older. That is older than any other bat and ball sport.

There has been some very good bowling from Broad, Cummins and Hazelwood. Some good spells from Archer, Siddle and Pattinson. The batting has been very poor apart from Smith and Stokes and a few good innings from Burns and Labs. The rest have been not Test standard really. Wade had one good innings, Root a couple as well as Head and Paine one but no one is averaging much apart from Smith and Stokes. .

Yeah, Australians are really happy they retain the Ashes aint they?,. I'm really p**** off. Sure we won the World Cup but Ashes is important as. Annoying b****** Aussies won Ashes more than England which is how? Sorry for my rant, just wanted England to win Ashes as well as it important to England as they invited it .

Might get my first negetive point, sport not being my friend much.

It's pretty weird thing to burn a symbol of your sport just because one of your colonies/possessions beat you at it. (The implication being that those subjects should forever be inferior and subordinate to their Imperial "betters"). Then, to not only hand it over to them as a sort of ironic trophy, but also be devastated when you don't win the backhanded souvenir back from them.

It's a good thing the English don't do the same thing with horse racing or other equestrians sports. ;)

Some burnt wood in an old make up case created in sarcasm and posted as a joke to the obituaries has to be the greatest trophy in sports history.

The joke is the desperation to win their sarcastic trophy back each time.

I think they'd see that the joke's not on them, since they didn't choose to make the sarcastic trophy in the first place.

We Australian's very much appreciate the humour in the original creation of the urn. Now it is treated with real reverence, just like a religious relic and winning it is an extremely serious business.
