Although I enjoyed the film and scored it a 7 out of 10, it still has flaws and annoyances.

    1. Title Logo - Having the Rogue One title logo pop up a few minutes after the introduction begins. It would have been preferable to have it immediately at the start before the rings of the planet Lah'mu.

    2. Captions - Giving each planet or location a named title caption on the screen felt very unlike Star Wars. Traditionally in Star Wars films, the only text that appears on screen are subtitles for non-human species.

    3. Re-shoots - Too many deleted scenes which were widely advertised in the trailers and teasers which implied they were part of the completed film. Annoying to realise scenes you hoped to see from trailers aren't even in the film.

    4. Planets - Too many planets and switching attention between them all felt disorientating and confusing - probably why they decided to use on-screen name captions for planets (see 2). I counted 7 planets/moons (there may be more), Lah'mu, Wobani, Eadu, Jedha, Mustafar, Yavin IV and Scarif.

    5. Inappropriate Cameos - R2-D2 and C-3PO for only 5 seconds.... really?! Ponda Baba and Evazan appearing randomly in a Jedha City which is about to be destroyed, but just happen to escape in time (off-screen) to show up in Mos Eisley, Tatooine for Episode IV?

    6. Music - Pretty weak and forgettable. No memorable new tracks. I've seen Rogue One twice and I still can't even remember what its main theme sounds like.

    7. Vehicles - Many of the vehicles of Rogue One are unique to this Star Wars film and do not appear in other films because they were not created for other SW films. For example, why aren't the tougher, bigger AT-ACT walkers used for the Hoth invasion too? Why are there no TIE Strikers in the Battle Of Endor? I think Rogue One should have not used these "new" advanced vehicles because they seem out of place with the established future timeline.

    8. Darth Vader - I have no problem or objection with him being very aggressive, full rampaging Darth Vader in attack mode at the end of Rogue One was fun and scary. But it doesn't fit with the start of 'A New Hope'. Vader doesn't storm into the Tantive IV first with his lightsabre out, isn't Force-strangling or throwing the crew around, instead the stormtroopers do all the dirty work first and then once the ship has been captured, Vader calmly appears.

    9. The Death Star Origins - Episode II clearly shows that the Death Star was originally planned and designed by the Geonosians. Yet in Rogue One, Galen Urso seem to be credited as the mastermind of the entire Death Star, having also deliberately engineered the infamous Thermal Exhaust Port flaw into "his" design.

    10. CGI Tarkin & Leia - Good, but not good enough. They looked uncanny, unconvincing and too digital. Hopefully they can be improved further in time for Bluray/DVD release,

not build for combat. They are transporters.

He wants them alive but he was still a bit angry.

    They work best in athmosphere.
I think it was good to use outtakes for trailers. So we don't go in spoiled.
Read Catalyst, there is a reason why the Emperor had already started building it in III.
I would like to see more of the galaxy, there is much to explore, we don't need to see old planets all over again, the old planets that were in it made sense in the story, that is how it should be done.
    Disagree.

    1. I liked the cold open, the title card looked kinda bad though.
    2. I didn`t like it either, especially because they used it inconsistently.
    3. The reshoots likely made it a better film, so I`m ok with that.
    4. I agree, it was escpecially noticable during the first act. The worldbuilding was great though.
    5. They both felt shoehorned in, but it didn`t really take me out of the movie. I would have preferred to see C3PO and R2D2 on the Tantive IV at the end of the movie.
    6. I have to disagree, the score has very memorable moments IMO.
    7. The AT-ACTs were built specifically for cargo transport, not for combat. TIE strikers were designed for in-atmosphere combat.
    8. He was trying to get the plans before the rebels could hand them to the Tantive IV crew in Rogue One. There was no need for him to storm into the ship in the opening scene of ANH, because he knew they couldn`t escape this time.
    9. This was explained in Catalyst. Basically, the Republic used the plans of Geonosians to build the DS. Galen Erso was tricked into designing the weapon.
    10. I was blown away by Tarkin and Leia.

Not enough Chirrut. He needed at least another 5 hours of footage in my opinion.

    1. AGREE
    2. lava planet that shall not be named should have been named but oh well.
    3. Reshoots didint seem to affect the overall movie and (MAYBE) some scenes were shot specifically for trailer purposes.
    4. They should have stuck to only 2 or three planets.
    5. Yavin IV with them really threw me off.
    6. I didnt even notice the music unlike the main movies (except for TFA).
    7. Merchandies sales ?
    8. LOVED him in this but could have been much better utilized.
    9. Geonosis was actually eradicated before R1 and galen was credited for more specific details besides the general aesthetic.
    10. Tarkin's cgi got better evidently as it went along and Leia was shockingly better than the elaked picture that I saw.

7.5/10 (My likely ranking is ESB, ANH, TFA, then R1 and ROTJ tied, then 3, 1, 2)

General audiences probably got a bit lost in the first 20 minutes before the relationship between Bodi, Galen and Saw was explained more clearly by Cassian at Jyn's briefing. This movie needed an opening crawl. I'm sure they'll probably learn.

Music and pace got a bit slow in the second act, towards Galen's death, which needed a bigger musical accompaniment to signal Jyn's 'awakening' and 'mission' from that point, to redeem her father (sound familiar?? For all you "I need original" people...SW is not built on massive originality) in the eyes of the Rebellion and galaxy.

Leia's CGI wasn't good but that doesn't really matter much. Tarkin was great.

So 7.5 with a slow second act and jumpy beginning. Already watched it twice and would watch the last 40 minutes over and over and over again.

    1. Title Logo - I don't care about a logo.

    2. Captions - A detail. At best

    3. Re-shoots - I've no information about this. Maybe it's the same in every movie.

    4. Planets - This is a big galaxy, I like that.

    5. Inappropriate Cameos - A cameo is 5 seconds, a movie is 2h20. Once again, a detail, at best.

    6. Music - I thought it was OK. The composer didn't compose like John Williams, like Beethoven wasn't composing like Mozart.

    7. Vehicles - There were good.

    8. Darth Vader - He had the role I thought he would have. The story was about the anonymous warriors of the rebellion and I liked that.

    9. The Death Star Origins - Nothing to say about that.

    10. CGI Tarkin & Leia - Good.

Conclusion : I enjoyed the movie as a whole thing and I look at it like a fan not as a film critic that I am not. I enjoyed the journey in the Star Wars universe.

I agree with the title logo, not so much about the other points. The posts above me elaborated it well. I think we can objectivele state that the rehots worked very well in the end.
I personally really liked Leia's CGI, Tarkin's was a bit questionable during close ups and lip movements, but nothing jarring (like the first Jabba CGI monstrocity in the ANH SE). I wouldn't be suprised if R1 would be the oscar winner this year.
People were complaining about the lack of monumentality and planets in TFA, now its too much?! I guess its personal preference, but I liked every planet. They all served their puropse. I think the music was great at some points ( liked the main melody and the Jyn & Cassian's death soundtrack really stood out imo) bit weaker at some, but overal imo it was good.

On the other hand, I think Saw Gerrera was really underdeveloped and maybe a bit overacted. Baze Malbus also needed more developement imo.

There was one music theme I repeatedly recognized during my second viewing. It was connected to the arrivals of Krennic on different locations. I enjoyed the film much more in the English OV, the German voiceover during my first view was not great.
From the multiple hero deaths the one of K-2SO was the most impressive for me and it was a bit too much and too fast for me to see the destruction from one after another. But it was no surprise, because there are some hints in the ANH novel about everybody involved in getting the plans should be dead at the end. Nevertheless I hoped the best for K-2SO during my first view. :)
Chirrut and the whole "Guardians of the Whills" concept was very cool.

The "reshoots" comment is totally out of context. At no point in the movie was it ever obvious that there were any reshoots. The fact that there was a lot of material in the trailers that didn't make the movie is a totally seperate mater. Lot of movies have stuff in the trailers that don't make the cut. I personally didn't miss anything I saw from the trailers while watching the movie.

Giacchino had a near impossible task with scoring Rogue One.

    1. Hired last minute to score the film. He legitimately had 4 weeks to do this. And his other work says this is A-typical for him.
    2. Replace JOHN FREAKING WILLIAMS on a Star Wars film. First non-John Williams score. So yeah, there's gonna be rough patches

The death of K2SO is the sign that it is gonna be bad for the rest of the crew. Once I saw him dead, I was quite sure the R1 crew won't make it through the movie.

I was 99.9% positive they were all gonna bite the dust.
I wasn't expecting their deaths to all be so well done and poignant.
Each death brought a finality to the character and it felt like they were complete.

While I too loved RO, the things I disliked are these:

1-Title Logo and no SW music at the start of the film. I knew there wasn't going to be any crawl but the music was needed.

2-New Tie Strikers that served nothing but eye candy. While the U-Wing proved to be needed as a troop transport, the Tie Striker was just there to look cool and nothing more as I don't swallow the lame excuse that they are made for in athmosphere combat as the regular old Tie Fighter has always been able to do this.

3-Fake scenes in the trailers and TV spots. What's the use of having us wait so long for the trailers if much of what we are going to see is fake in order to mislead us? Isn't that false advertising? The secrecy thing has really gotten real stupid and out of hand. Back in the OT days, only major scenes that had to do with the plot were kept secret but nothing more. There were story books, picture books, magazines and many other things sold before the movie and it never ruined anybody's desire to watch and love the movies. The same can be said about the PT but Disney's whole secrecy gimmick has gotten plain ridiculous. What are they going to do next? Not tell us when the movie is going to come out in order to ''surprise'' us?

4-The darn darkness and stupid camera focus! Why do many scenes in the movie have to be so darn dark? Did the Rebels forget to pay the light bill? One thing I have always loved about Lucas's SW was that you could greatly admire everything in his movie. Re-wathching the film was always cool as you could see this thing here and this alien over there and whatnot. In the new Disney movies, sometimes you can't see squat because of how dark everything is. In TFA you could barley make out the ships when the movie started. Same with Lor Santeka's village and worst with the darn camera that tends to focus on the front characters while making a blur of those behind them. That has made many moments in the film be non-memorable and seem like things that just weren't even important. While I always love the Tatooine scenes of both the OT and PT for everything you could just take in, Jakku wasn't memorable in any way and the same can be said of Jedha. What was the point of the Yavin base being so dark? I can understand if the lights were off because they were seeing a hologram or something but in RO even when the Rebel leaders were just talking, the room was really dark and you couldn't make out many of the characters in the room.

5-While it was good to see Ponda Baba, Mon Calamari and a Twi'Lek (hologram), Disney's SW movies seem like a whole different world from the one Lucas made and this is for the crummy eye candy factor. While Lucas kept many alien species consistent throughout the previous 6 movies, Disney seems to want to make entirely new races every time. I know that SW is now Disney's thing and they are trying to make it their own but why not at least include some aliens or droids from TFA?
    ! tfa.JPG
This would make Disney's SW movies flow nicely and make us feel we're in the same world and not like an eye candy fest where each and every person that's gonna make a movie is going to give us their own version of SW. I love the aliens from a galaxy far far away and I'm in with new species but the lack of known species created by Lucas in the new films is a real downer and they aren't even using a single one of those created by JJ Abrams either. Classic aliens were the inhabitants of the SW galaxy and not just a nod so that we could shut up and say ''Oh at least we got a Aqualish and a Twi'Lek in the film.''

I don't like some of the background music either, especially the finally space battle scenes, it's actually part of ANH already, they should use more of the original SW scores in those scenes, nows looks weird to me.

Does anyone else feel the irony of "it needed more of the original score, and titles and crawl..." while at the same time TFA is blasted for being too similar to originals and not doing anything different?

Thank you! I was waiting for this for a long time. Quite as lovely as, oh they have new aliens and don't visit old planets.
