I was sitting here looking at the D23 poster. Artistically, it's pretty simple. This is most likely the way the artist decided to style it, but I do find it interesting that Palpatine is blue, which as we all know has generally symbolized the light side in Star Wars and is the color of the lightning behind Rey and her saber.

So that got me thinking, what if the entire poster is a mirror image of what's actually going on? (Kylo redemption, dark side Rey - Anakin/Vader fought with a blue saber in ROTS) I'm probably reading into it way too much, but it's still a fun thought. :) I photoshopped the poster to give you an idea of what I'm trying to express.

Just having a little fun, hope everyone is having a good day.

I think the blue flame isn't lighting, but some sort of dark side magic. Before we see Dark Rey we hear some kind music, that I can only describe as magic sounding. That blue flame I think is coming from this cauldron in Rebels. Sidious says some sort of magic thing before using the blue flame. JJ has said there is a reason he is on the poster. Also, the way he looks it almost looks like a literal puppet master with strings and all.

Blue was always one of the main colors associated with the emperor in the OT, partially because he was introduced via blue hologram.

To me the blue light looks like a surface of water hit by sunlight giving the impression that Kylo and Rey are underwater. Palpatine looks like he’s reflected on the water while observing the fight.

I think it's interesting that Rey and Palpatine are the same color. But maybe there's nothing to it.

When it comes to film, I like to believe that everything you see has a story purpose. While sometimes I'm sure things are done because it looks cool, I don't think this is the case. The TLJ teaser poster, everything on there had a purpose. Also, that there is suddenly red "force lightning"? It's always been blue even with Dooku it was blue. Unless that's supposed to be lava?

Good point. It could also be an artistic representation and extension of Kylo's unstable blade. That doesn't explain the blue lightning on Rey's side, other than it mimics the side Kylo is on, but maybe Rey uses force lightning at some point as a Jedi/light side user. Luke used the force choke technique in ROTJ. That could be cool!

Again.. maybe we're reading into it too much, but this is the last Skywalker film, so maybe we'll get some fun surprises.
