Daisy Ridley: Fans Will Know the Complete Story Behind Reys Parents by the End of The Rise of Skywalker

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is less than six months away from opening in theaters worldwide, and since marketing for the movie has yet to kick in, fans are leaning on Daisy Ridley to feed us anything as she continues her interview tour promoting her upcoming film Ophelia.

In an interview with USA Today, Ridley shared J.J. Abrams said any remaining question about Rey's parents will be answered by the end of the movie. Ridley also explains how The Rise of Skywalker differs from the previous two saga films, and understands the fact that some fans were upset over The Last Jedi.

First up, the hot-button issue with fans. Rey's parentage! The issue has gone beyond the bubble of die-hard fans and now sees itself surfacing in questions from mainstream media outlets. Though I must admit, I was a bit surprised by Daisy Ridley's answer. So when asked if there was more to the story about Rey's parents in The Rise of Skywalker beyond them being 'nobodies', Ridley said:

This does not mean Obi-Wan and Satine are her grandparents, so before we start going crazy again with the theories, this could simply mean there is more clarification on who they were specifically, and how and why Rey was left on Jakku.

Ridley was also asked about how The Rise of Skywalker differs from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. The theme of friendship and adventure surfaces again, which fortifies the belief that Rey, Finn, and Poe will be spending a lot of time together in this final chapter.
    <img style='color: #0000ee;' src='https://www.starwarsnewsnet.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/DzeJn9YUwAEotT3-1024x684.jpg[/img]

The interview looks back a bit too. The Last Jedi has been out for over a year and a half now, yet still sparks a lot of controversy among Star Wars fans. Ridley was asked about the backlash the film received, understanding where the sentiment comes from with something that people are so passionate about.

So there you have it, our latest The Rise of Skywalker update from Rey herself, Daisy Ridley. How has J.J. Abrams completed telling the story about where Rey came from and why she was left on Jakku with Unkar Plutt? We'll find out in less than six months when the different (genre-wise) and final adventure in the 'Skywalker Saga' opens in theaters on December 20, 2019.

For the full interview go to USA Today, where Ridley talks about Ophelia and shares more Star Wars tidbits, including how she performed roughly 95% of her stunts in the movie.

    Nobody, Skywalker or a Kenobi.

I still prefere Rey as a nobody. We will see if JJ will change that.

And when the answer is a version of what we already know (Rey nobody) just more detailed, people will lose their minds. Surprise, surprise...

I still have the feeling Rey is the one who killed her parents.

Cool idea but out of character for someone so selfless.

Reys parents: A couple of low life scavengers have a child then sell her for drink tickets at the bar on the other side of Jakku. They take off in the ship, Rey goes with Uncle Unkar. Done deal. :p

For me it would be in-character because in the previous movies Rey showed that she can get emotional pretty quickly. And with her emotion comes rage. We've seen it in the forest in TFA and we've seen it in the throne room in TLJ.

The forceback vision in TFA shows a desperate but also raging baby Rey. It's not too far fetched that her raw powers (forced by her emotions) brought the ship with her parents down.

The problem is we are in the third act now. She would have needed to learn that in TLJ. Kylo would have told her she killed her parents, which would have been the hardest thing she could hear and helped him seduce her to the dark side. He would have said something like "you see, you killed your parents too, and you're not a monster. Join me...yada yada yada." It's not going to happen now, there's no time to reconcile that.

I honestly would have liked that better, if she killed her abusive parents with the force, even accidentally.

    At a very young age?

That would be too Ben Solo. Unless she fully demonstarted her power and killed them by accident. Then suppressed it all this time.

I am guessing that her nobody parents got scared when she started exhibiting “strange” powers and decided they could not deal with her so they sold her off to Unkar

You know, I don't get the sense from any forum or message board that I have visited that anyone is expecting TRoS to walk back any of the shipping that was crushed under TLJ; especially Rey Skywalker/Kenobi/Palpatine.

    Some thoughts:

    • I wonder if Rey's parents didn't sell her but left her because they were in some sort of danger. I wonder if the ship she watches fly away is her parents being taken away by the First Order or the New Republic or some other entity.

    • She was left with the person who seemed to have the most resources in the area and could probably keep their child alive.

    • She also had some reason for thinking that they were coming back for her. I suspect that if she had been sold by scumbag parents that she would have been told that they were not coming back. Maybe they told her that they were coming back.

    • On the other hand.... They could have sold her and then told her they were coming back just to stop her crying, I suppose.

    • And for being "sold", she didn't appear to be a slave.

    • Kylo Ren could just have easily lied to her just because he knew that she knew nothing. As long as she knew nothing, he could say whatever he wanted.

    Stuff just doesn't add up.

Did you fall asleep during both TFA and TLJ? Because those films were pretty clear about her being a complete stranger to Han, Leia, and Luke.

I read the USA Today article. Having read through it, I noticed that Daisy Ridley used language that seemed deliberately vague. She stated that the audience would learn the whole deal about her background. I took that as potentially meaning any of a number of things. Take it for what you will. I watched TFA again recently and was watching her Force vision very closely. And the scenes in the rain with Kylo Ren and the Knights of Ren as well as the scene on Jakku with the departing ship and Unkar Plutt seem like they might take on even greater significance in TROS.

I don't think any caring parents wouldn't have left their child with Unkar Plutt. My thoughts are more along the lines that someone not her parents left her there.
