Will Rey be an old miserable witch living by herself on a deserted island and Finn be scrubbing toilets again? Will Poe have an emo kid that thinks he's a terrible dad?

If so, I'm all in.

I can see the skywalker saga continuing sometime in the future and the link will be Kylo/Ben, who I think may survive TROS and become the last Skywalker standing. Rey will continue being the main hero of the ensemble though.

Fish meet hook. Constantly amazed at how many people believe that Rey's parentage was "decided" in TFA and TLJ.

Rey being a stranger to Luke? Anakin/Vader was also a stranger to Luke.... as was his sister. Luke has a long history of lacking force-family-recognition powers. Luke could have easily been off adventuring when his daughter was born (and pregnant wife was kidnapped by Snoke).

I know for 100% confirmed certainty that one of her ancestors is this man:
Arnold Ridley is Daisy Ridley's grand-uncle. He was an actor and play writer, who towards the end of his career, played a WW2 Home Guard soldier named Private Godfrey in the BBC's Dad's Army tv comedy series. Sadly, Arnold died in 1984 aged 88 before Daisy was born in 1992, so they never met.

Here's an episode of This Is Your Life, which celebrates the life and career of Arnold Ridley.

People believe that her parentage was 100% decided in TFA and TLJ because it was.

While true Leia and Luke's relationship didn't get resolved till the third film, there are differences with your analogy. Anakin was only able to sense him when the Emperor told him/using his powers. As far as knowing about Leia, that was only due to close proximity to Luke and being able to sense what Luke was feeling. I find it extremely hard to believe that Luke would completely abandon (and forget) his daughter and not be able to sense her once he got the force back. There are two many red flags for me to believe that Rey is a Skywalker. Lastly, there is this thing in the Star Wars in which the villians tend tell the truth over the good guys.

Kylo: Do you want to know the truth about your parents?
Or have you always known? You've just hidden it away.
    You know the truth.
    Say it.
    Say it.
    Rey: They were nobody.
Kylo: They were filthy junk traders who sold you off for drinking money.
They're dead in a poverished grave in the Jakku desert.

Actually all Rey acknowledges is her parents being nobody. But she just came from a dark side cave experience telling her exactly that (why should we believe it to be true) and that she is all that counts. So that doesn't mean that her parents are really nobody. But to her at the moment (set under pressure by Kylo) it feels like that.
We don't even know if Kylo isn't wildly exaggerating (or even inventing or having seen a misleading force vision, read the worst fears of Rey instead of her actual memories,...) the latter part, and they never sold her, weren't alcoholics, and may still be alive.

Unless he doesn't even have the slightest idea that he may have an offspring.

Perhaps, but I don’t know. I just think that, in that moment and for those two characters, what has been said is the truth. It feels that Rey has always known the truth but repressed it and that Kylo has seen these repressed memories too. But yes, as Rey interpreted the Kylo’s future wrong, Kylo might have read Rey’s past wrong too...

And for me the mirror doesn’t show her parents, not because they are nobody or because they abandoned her or they are dead, but because they are not what she needs to move forward and “fulfil her destiny”. For me the cave is not where Rey learns about “they are nobody”. Rey has always known.

But wouldn’t he know through the force?

I have said for a long time that this is the only possible way for Rey to be Luke’s daughter.

Luke didn’t sense Leia was his sister until he was told he had a sister

Opinion, don't kill me. The purpose of Kylo telling Rey that her parents were dead was so that she would let go of the past and move on with Kylo. I believe Kylo tricked her when he brought it up. She was reading his mind, but only saw what he wanted her to see when she said that they were nobody. Furthermore I think his story doesn't even add up with the force flash from TFA. To me, again opinion, she was left there, for whatever reason, I don't even think her parents even know Jakku exists. I feel her placement there was deliberate, either to be hidden, gotten rid of due to powers, but Unkar Plutt is not who you drop your child off with. I hate the idea of her being a clone, but even that is a better option, it might explain that cave place in Ahch To with all the mirror images of her. She could be nobody in the sense she's a science project. I can't wait to find out when I see the movie in December.

Who are Rey's parents? What are their names?

Nobodies isn't the answer. It's not even an answer to the questions. It's a dodge. A non answer. If it were "settled" no one would be asking the question anymore.

The nobody answer was supposed to answer the question of whether she is a legacy character. It does answer that question. However, because they were not specifically identified many are holding on to the hope she could still be a legacy character. “Kylo is lying” “Rey is hiding something” etc. Based on Daisy’s comments in The Rise of Skywalker we will get more specific information about Rey’s parents but it by no way implies that she is really a legacy character.

What answers the question of who Rey's parents were/are is STATING WHO THEY ARE... nobodies doesn't clarify anything. It doesn't even rule out any of the legacy characters. I'm not saying she is... but anyone saying it's "settled" she's not a Skywalker, is overreaching. She's probably not. But clearly, nothing is settled. It's not hard for anyone related to the movies to say... "well she's not a Skywalker, isn't that obvious?" But it's been dodged... danced around... winked at... avoided.

Bingo. Luke doesn't know he even had a daughter--just like Anakin didn't know he had kids. It rhymes.

It is a very easy story to tell that Luke was off adventuring when pregnant wife gave birth. It also nicely explains more of why Luke was so dejected and isolated in TLJ--he lost his wife somehow. But little does he know that she survived and gave birth.

Rey doesn't know who her parents were, that is why she is searching. She fears they were nobodies. Kylo latched onto that fear having read her mind. Kylo having read Rey's mind wouldn't know who her parents were either BECAUSE REY DOES NOT KNOW EITHER! Kylo's not a God.

Oh, and if Rey's parentage was resolved in TFA or TLJ (which it wasn't), there wouldn't be any need for these statements that it is going to be addressed and explained in TROS....

Yet somehow Kylo knows that she is Luke's daughter and is deceiving her?

So was watching TFA a couple of days ago. Now I believe and want Rey to remain the daughter of no bodies. Need to get away from this concentration on blood lines. Still some of what Kylo could have said could be deception and I think the following works really well and would add even more edge to the Kylo/Rey relationship.

So lets go with they are nobodies and sold Rey off for some reason. That is where the deception starts. Then they decide to repent and clean themselves up and join the Church of the Force. So they are in the village when TFA starts. We all know that Kylo has all of them killed and this they are in a grave in the Jakku desert. So maybe he sensed their presence, and sensed Rey through them. Sensed they feared they would never see her again. This could possibly then connect that feeling which could explain his reaction when he is told that BB8 escaped on a freighter with Finn and the help of a girl.

Then in TROS Rey learns the truth that Kylo was directly responsible for the murder of her parents.

I like this. It could be explained easily to the audience and to Rey, and give her a reason to go to the dark side and want to kill Kylo. Maybe Palpatine tells her?

To be clear I have believed it for a long time. 1. What Maz said in TFA. 2. JJ said that Rey's parents were not in TFA. 3. It gives SO SO much more freedom to tell interesting story. 3 is the most important part of my belief. Freedom for story telling without tying ones self up in knots is good for creative people working on Star Wars. The whole basing things on blood lines is tiresome and limits story telling. Rey being related to someone means we need to get back story on why they hid/gave her away. It needs to be compelling so we can easily forgive characters we loved from doing something like abandoning a child to a horrible being. As for #2 I mean that they were not onscreen in any recognizable form. Could JJ use my idea and say they were among the villagers killed? Yes that would work.
