OK, since we have nothing new and solid regarding TFA, and building theory on shaky spoilers... let me jump out of the box for a second.

I'll just ignore everything I've heard so far... but the face that there is a "Vader" figure in TFA... Disney wants it... we've seen concept art...ect...

    Imagine North Korea.

Kim Jung Un has no heir.
    It's a dictatorship.
Kim Jung Un dies, choking on a Big Mac.
What happens the following day, if Kim's close circle doesn't want North Korea to fall into chaos, or worst... capitalism?

They do their best to make the North Korean to believe Kim Jung is not dead? They hire a lookalike?

    Kim Jung is immortal, no?

What if that's exactly the strategy the Empire goes for after the Battle of Endor.

Rumors of the death of Vader and the Emperor...

What if, to prevent The Empire falling apart, they make people believe that Vader and The Emperor are still alive?... Enter Kylo Ren... and someone else (Gleeson)? Posing as Vader & Palpatine.

And they manage to capture Luke, the only one who knows the truth about Vader & Palpatine so he can't spill the beans...

    Is it a crazy theory?

Well, the summary of Aftermath does mention that the Palps and Vader are merely rumored to be dead, so...

So.... My theory is not THAT ludicrous :)

Vader... Well, in fact, is not THAT difficult to impersonify... Find a tall guy, put him in a suit... Someone posted a photo of one dude disguised as Darth in a bank robbery yesterday...

As for Palpatine... The guy is often just a shadow in an Hologram... Rarely in sight (everone was so surprised when he visited the Second Death Star)... Just put someone who sounds and looks like him under a hood and put him on Skype... bingo...

Why not something new, just to meet all the old cast?

My post was presented as a joke... but what I meant was, when an Emperor/King/Leader falls... there is always "damage control"... The Empire made its close circle very wealthy and powerful... and their objective will be to make the transition as smooth as possible... avoid the void at all cost...

Including denying the death of Vader and the Emperor... and hunting those knowing the truth.

Why should Luke not spelled the beans long before, why to keep it a secret?
Has he something to gain if he closed his lips about it?

Edit: @MarsPhoenix you're creating many threads in the last few days, I can't hardly follow it. ;)

To protect his sister or himself? Or what if nobody cares about Luke anymore? Lando Blew up the Death Star... Han and Leia were the heroes on Endor... What if Luke is a total anonymus by the time ROTJ ends... His last grand show was on Jabba's barge, but it exploded with everybody inside...

Palpatine controlled the Galaxy for 36 years.

Vader was his lead enforcer and commanded the Imperial navy for 23 years.

That's a significant amount of power and influence between the two.

I don't think you just "plug and play" with anybody else that easily, especially in the middle of a Civil War where the enemy has dealt not one, but two massive blows to the Empire in a span of 4 years. The last thing they can afford is instability, especially if they put the wrong people in place of Palpatine and Vader.

I can see Lando with his Colt45 as the Hero, him and his co-pilot Nien Numb, maybe Ackbar joins the party too.

I think your theory is very plausible. It would make complete sense to have imposters pose in place. It's probably only necessary to replace vader though, being as he makes the most "public" appearances. I mean wasn't the last time anyone saw sidious that wasnt a storm trooper when he addressed the members of the senate at the end of ROTS to declare the republic as the new galactic empire? I don't think anyone has seen or heard from him so it wouldn't be hard to find a look alike for him to make a public service announcement stating that all is well and the war will keep pressing on. Personally I think Disney will find a way to bring back vader in some form. Creating a clone would make the most sense but is probably very unlikely.

I guess it from the very beginning that we will see a Darth Vader imposter in one of the ST movies, this character is too iconic to skip.
Disney wants to make profit and Darth Vader is money.
I hope they will do it skilful with a plausible explanation/story-arc and that it won't hurt the character afterwards.
Some people dislike the idea of bringing Darth Vader back in some form or another.
If I were in the theater and I would be surprised with his appearance then hearing his breath and seeing him fighting soldiers or Jedi's it would be awesome.
Then a scene with Luke confronting the imposter and going nutz/berserk about this fake Vader and kicking the crap out of him.
I would buy the tickets in a heartbeat without thought and remorse.

Could just be a re-release of the one from Revenge of the Sith, knowing they can make money off of it.

Again.... Disney's investment is Vader, R2, C3P0... like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Captain America... Cinderella...

I am sorry for all purists out there.... but, somehow, Vader will be back... not Anakin... but the Mask...

And, I am pretty sure they figured out a way to bring it back...

It's not a novelty... it has been done many times in comic books and in Cinema.

Yeah, I guess it COULD be....but it's included in the new 'Star Wars 7' product listings. Just found it interesting that it was the only OT/PT toy included....

Probably old news, but the other listings that caught my eye:
Star Wars 7 Micro Machine Villain Flagship
Star Wars 7 Figures Snow Desert
Nerf Star Wars 7 Alien Blaster
Star Wars 7 3.75 In Armor Figure Assortment
    (armor?)

I posted this theory a couple months ago in the Kylo thread. The difference in mine was that they had Kylo kill the fakes in a public setting to make him look more powerful. Good theory @MarsPhoenix

No theory is rediculous as far as I'm concerned.

Could be like the Wizard of Oz. The man behind the curtain(mask) seems like Vader..but isn't.

It's rumored because the novel takes place immediately after the battle of endor.

TFA takes place 35 yrs later, that's a long time for rumors. And it's a long time to start fooling people by having someone else to pretend to be Vader

Not too surprising since they've set Vader up as being the main villain on the second season of Rebels

I thought it was strange bringing him back this early I would have waited until the final episode of the second season were there is a lightsaber stand-off between him & Ashoka.
