    Looks good! I haven't seen most of those movies, but I'd say the look of the film will be just fine.

    those are pretty good films in my opinion, i recommend those 8 films

    Two of them are Star Trek Into Darkness and John Carter, but I'm not sure about the rest.
    (Btw the shots look amazing! I have no doubt that TFA will be visually stunning like these!)

    Going to be honest here.. when he was first announced for the film I was disappointed.
    I was hoping someone like Roger Deakins, Robert Richardson or Janusz Kaminski would have come on board as they said they were taking the practical route. Dan Mindel's work really hasn't impressed me all that much, it's good enough but not outstanding.

    ..But I guess he's used to working alongside special effects, and JJ's used to working with him at this point, maybe there isn't a safer choice.

    you are 100 % right he is used to working with him and their style is dynamic and clean. kaminski is great but a little more artsy(diving bell and butterly was a visual masterpiece). richardson is in my opinion the best but i dont think sci fi is his favorite style even tho he could do absolutely fantastic he knows lighting better than anyone. i reccomend you listen to an interview he did for HUGOyou gotta listen to it. deakins is about the contrast ant the sharpest details possible another great d.o.p. but still a lil bit more on the artist side rather than the dynamic style. claudio miranda is great too for tron legacy :p

    Cary Fukunaga's work on Jane Eyre and True Detective is amazing. Not sure if Fukunaga would even touch Star Wars but there's a really strong eye there.

    i think that for the camera movements im confident the casual scenes will be filmed like john carter and like star trek for action scenes.
