    He always was.

From a certain point of view.

We are the spark that will burn Snoke's lame story to the ground.

How is Plagueis confirmed? In Jason's speculation he says Matt Smith is most likely the threat. Which could be either Palpatine is young again or a flashback.

Have you seen this scene from the VR game Star Wars: Vader Immortal:
. For me it is pretty clear that it is Vader speaking to Snoke. What is more interesting is that "Snoke" tells Vader that he will "get mastery over death itself", which are the exact same words Palpatine uses to describe Plagueis' powers in ROTS. Combining this with the fact that Snoke's black diamond ring was made of Dwarti under Vader's castle, I strongly believe that this is yet another hint towards Snoke being Plagueis. Thoughts???

My thoughts are that "mastery over death itself" is probably a common desire among many, if not most, followers of the dark side. It wasn't only Plagueis - Palpatine craved it and Anakin too wanted to 'learn of this power' - and still does judging by that clip. It's just in their nature and part of their greed for ultimate power. So it's not surprising that Snoke would crave it too - he doesn't have to be the reincarnation of a previous 'Sith Master' to desire it, or promise it to others as a power to tempt them to the dark side.

The Sith, in contrast to the Jedi, seek 'crude matter' immortality.

In old canon, Cade Skywalker had this power and he could wield it without falling to the dark side. So this idea was floating around LFL at some point in the last 15 years.

I would still love it if Snoke turns out to be (or have been, but I'm not 100% convinced we've seen the last of him) Plagueis. But I won't be annoyed if he's not. It just makes so much sense that he could be, to me.

@Porco Azzurro I completely agree. I think having Snoke be Plagueis could have been the "reveal" the ST needed, as well as being something that could tie all three trilogies together that would make a lot of sense. If Snoke does end up really being a big nobody, like Rey appears to be, then I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be disappointed and really underwhelmed; more so from the loss of potential than anything.

I can understand that, and honestly I kind of feel the same way right now, but we haven't seen what they will/would do instead, and luckily for me I've been generally happy with the way they've done things so far in the ST - that's not to say there weren't other, imagined possibilities I had for TFA or TLJ too, but I can still imagine those whilst enjoying what we got, and I'll be endevouring to do the same with TROS.

The thing is we don't know what we don't know until we know it, and then we don't know how we would have felt if they'd done exactly what we thought we might have wanted, because that's unknowable once we know it's what didn't happen. ;)

I hesitate to list all the things that make me think Snoke as Plagueis is a good idea in detail because I would guess they have been covered in this apparently very long thread already. But there are lots, and yet they many have been done in such a clever way (if intentional) I don't know that there's any 'smoking guns'. Maybe they hadn't even decided until writing TROS what the deal was with Plagueis, but I will just mention a couple of things that I find interesting (and sorry if it's repeating anything in this thread already, as it probably is):

    - In a TFA panel, Lawrence Kasdan, sat next to JJ, seemed (to me) to pretend he didn't know who Plagueis was when asked about him directly by a fan. That seemed a little too over the top to me... like 'the gentlemen doth protest too much'. I could be wrong though.

    - The Snoke music is quite Palpatine/dark sidey, I know that has been noted by loads of people. It doesn't prove anything, but like al lthis stuff it's a little nuggets of info that builds a picture of what could be possible.

    - "The Supreme Leader is Wise" ... yes Kylo... like "the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the wise", the only scene Plagueis has been mentioned on screen in the PT/OT?!

    - We see Snoke as a projection right up until we see him on board the Supremacy, and TLJ has the (IMHO) epic 'new' skill of Luke projecting himself through the Force... But what if Snoke was doing the same thing in the throne room in some way? "No-one's ever really gone" eh?!

    - People point towards the entry in the TLJ visual guide where it says Snoke is not a sith as proof Snoke can't be Plagueis - but it's cleverly worded - it doesn't rule out Snoke being a former sith. If that seems far fetched, consider that we have seen a cast-iron example in recent canon in the form of Maul - no longer a Darth (and also chopped in two like Snoke appeared to have been!). (vicious)(dual)(side note: Darth Maul, dual lightsaber - he gets chopped in half, so does his lightsaber, he is both a sith and not a sith, he kinda loses his mind... how cool is all that linked thematically?! And is it linked thematically to Kylo/Rey and the lightsaber being cut in half just as the Holdo Manouvre splitting the Supremacy obviously does in TLJ? I'm going off on a tangent here... ).

    - The James Luceno novel Plagueis was very well received and was one of the last Star Wars novels released before the cut-off point for the new Disney-era canon. Wouldn't that make a lot of sense if they decided not to include that novel because they didn't want to be restricted by the exact plot/characters etc of that novel - even if they planned to incorporate some elements of it in future?

I'll stop there for now. I just think there's a lot of (to me) fairly strong evidence for Snoke to be Plagueis, and if he isn't... why not just say so by now?! But I guess we'll find out soon, or one day... !

Didn't they say from the start that he is a new character?
Anyway. what if there was no Plagueis, or at least he wasn't able to do what Sidious said?
Maybe Palpatine was the one who could cheat death from the beginning and just modified the story a bit to have an excuse to not save Padme. He could have been the Master and his apprentice tried to kill him, but he resurrected himself and killed him... Actually afaik current canon hasn't a whole lot (if anything besides the opera scene) about Plagueis.
