    Hello there Cantina.

Mods, I searched for a similar thread but couldn’t find one. OK to merge if one exists.

I was scrolling through Facebook today and I came across this meme. It’s not what one would consider a very creative but I brought it here to start a debate.

In the left corner we have the chosen one himself, the immaculate conception rejection Anakin the Skywalker!! His hobbies include stealing food off your plate and Grand Theft Auto (prove me wrong. How many cars and ships did he steal) , and last but not least BBQ.

In the right corner we’ve got a not so slightly taller version of the same guy. (7 inches taller to be exact.) You know him. You love him. The delightful bringer of death, Darth Vader.

let’s get real here for a second. I think what this meme fails to consider is the powerful nature of the force as an entity. What I mean is, it would seem as if the person creating this meme has no understanding of how the force works. How it binds all living things and penetrates the characters in Star Wars guiding their actions. It’s the lifeblood of the universe.

what they’re likely referencing here is Darth Vader’s ability with a light saber specifically in films (not counting Solo). It might seem to the naked eye that Anakin would have the upper hand if a lightsaber duel was the only method they had of going head to head against themselves. That might be a fair point but I don’t think so and here’s why.

Wielding and mastering the lightsaber takes years of work and is perfected over time. Anakin, already a great warrior had an incredible gift in this regard. And even though he lost his limbs, the skills he learned as Anakin don’t whither away. They were passed onto Vader. He couldn’t move the same way he once could but his ability to use the force was even more powerful.

Vader used the force to enhance certain abilities to compensate for his disabilities. Example, he used it to mask his physical pain. I theorize that he also used the suit and the force to Hyten other senses like sound and vision. He was slower and bulkier too which would have meant he had to of had the foresight to know Where the next strike would land Before the impact because it will take longer for him to react. He would’ve had this ability even as a child as Anakin. But as Vader he would’ve needed to be hyper concentrated on every moment of the battle.

I’m not sure I’m totally following the gist of this thread. Are you asking who is more powerful – Vader or the young version of Anakin? Or some imaginary version of him we never saw? Either way, we have George’s perspective on the topic.

“The Emperor wants Luke to kill Vader so that he will have a new young Jedi. You know, let's face it, Darth Vader's half mechanical. He’s not nearly as good as he could be. He's not nearly as good as he was hoping Anakin would become because he ends up in this confrontation, which puts him in that suit.” – George Lucas, Return of the Jedi commentary, Chapter 39, ‘Father vs. Son’

Darth Vader, because of his injuries, could never be as powerful as he would have been otherwise. That’s the idea anyhow.

Or are you just asking who would win in a fight?

I think Vader is stronger, at least when it comes to being a darkside user. The darkside is derrived from hate anger and pain. Vader is much more hate filled and pain stricken than Anakin. It doesn't matter whether he has robot arms or a suit, his power comes from his pain.

I don’t think There’s a wrong answer here. The question is however you want to interpret it. This is more of a mental exercise then something to be taken literally.

it’s just fun the sit back and think about both characters and what makes them uniquely powerful in their own right.

I can’t disagree with George when it comes to a mele/or head to head combat. But I think there’s a lot to say for powers that Vader has or has dramatically enhanced by being in the suite. By turning off his sense of pain. Or by making his strikes with his lightsaber all the more intense and with more physical force.

But I don’t think that’s it. Vader has been known to tap into other elements of the force outside of combat.
