Most of you certainly recognize these unused Concept Arts of the OT:
    VadersCastleConcept.jpg darth-vader-s-castle.jpg

This is Darth Vader’s castle. Originally, it was planned to introduce this castle in ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ but unfortunately that idea was scrapped.

In the old expanded universe - also known as Legends - the castle concept was revisited under the name of ‘Bast Castle’.

    A direct quote from Wookieepedia:
“The Bast Castle was Darth Vader's private fortress on the acid rain-soaked planet of Vjun. It later became the headquarters of the Dark Side Elite.”

This Dark Side Elite, also known as Dark Side Warriors, was a group of seven dark Jedi. The Emperor himself established this group.
(further information about this topic: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Dark_Side_Elite)

These Dark Side Warriors share some similarities with the Knights of Ren. Therefore I think it would be a superb idea to reuse this concept and introduce Vader’s castle in the ST.

In EPVIII or IX we learn about the fortress Vader once owned, this fortress is now in the possession of Kylo Ren and the Knights of Ren.

They worship Darth Vader in this masonry:
    knights-of-ren-concept-art-002.jpg

This would be a great way to show Darth Vader’s legacy on the big screen. Just imagine a 20 feet tall statue of the dark Lord.

Supervised by Kylo Ren (and Supreme Leader Snoke) the Knights of Ren are training here. Additionally, we could see how new members are appointed.

    image-51.jpeg

It would be a great setting for the final lightsaber duel, too.
Just imagine this: Rey and Luke enter the ‘Castle of Ren’ and discover Kylo Ren, who is sitting on a throne. Behind him, the Knights of Ren.

Alternatively, you could use Vader’s castle as Snoke’s hideout but I like the Concept of the ‘Castle of Ren’ much more.

But what do you guys think? (crossguard)

I've always been back and forth with the idea of Vader having his own castle (with statues of himself?), but reutilizing that idea for the KOR is great! Though, I'm not sure if that would for VIII, but certainly IX depending on how the saga unfolds.

They also played with the idea of Vader's castle in the concept art production for The Force Awakens.

I think EPVIII and EPIX will use some of the scrapped ideas of TFA. If you look through the 'Art of The Force Awakens', then you will find some awesome concepts. A lot of them are too good for not using them.

It will be interesting to see if they go further in to why Kylo worships Darth Vader. Let's not forget that Luke is also a part of Vader's legacy. But this does sound and look awesome :)

I think Vader having a castle runs contrary to the man we see in OT.

The Emperor played all of his underlings off of each other and kept the busy. They were either building the Death Stars or hunting the Rebellion/putting down any local uprisings as kind of a military Jedi, keeping the peace through brute force.

Vader is always on a specific mission from the Emperor from the moment he turns to the Dark Side. He's kind of like a shark, but instead dying, he'll betray the Emperor if he ever stops working for too long. He tries to recruit Luke (and padme, sigh). I can't see the Emperor ever letting Vader have fiefdom like that.

Totally, especially with all the TFA space port concept art we've already seen used for Disney's Star Wars Land (and perhaps the Dubrovnik Ep VIII planet as well).

I don't think they'll go as far as you did, but I could see them teasing this a bit

The sea side Dubrovnik world for instance will now be used in Episode VIII, but was initially developed for Episode VII. The Vader Castle concepts for Episode VII were very interesting and I really hope they will use it in one of the later movies. This is a story about knights, magical swords and mysterical powers, of course the central villain of the story needs a castle.
Above is concept nr 1: note the similarities to Maz Kanata's castle on Takodana?
This is concept nr 2 for Vader's castle in TFA. The design of the castle and the alien landscape is based on the spires in modern Cappadocia in East -Central Turkey. Cappadocia was a long time in the running as a probable location for shooting episode VII, but the idea was shelved because of security reasons. Cappadocia is close to the conflict zones of South Turkey and Northern Syria and at the time of location scouting Turkey was hit by a number of large scale terrorist attacks. I've visited Cappadocia for work a few years earlier. Its absolutely magical and absolutely belongs in a Star Wars movie. And seriously, google it, this is how Cappadocia looks like in real life.

Awesome... just looked it up - how much does the Yunak Evleri Cave Hotel need to be a SW set!

This location is awesome and should be in a Star Wars movie.

Don't know if someone has already pointed it out, but in Reys Vision with the KoR, you can see the shade of a castle in the background (when the lightning flashes) which looks a lot like the concept for Vaders castle. So yeah, thats something I could see happening ;)

    EDIT
    There ya go:

crappy quality, but you can see it pretty good in the movie.

Some say it's a force tree but it could be a castle too.

Hold on, we're all assuming that the KoR/Kylo attack Luke's Jedi students, right?
What if it was the other way round? What if Luke lead his students to Vader's castle to fight the KoR?

    Great OP by the way.
    --- Double Post Merged, Nov 29, 2016, Original Post Date: Nov 29, 2016 ---
WHAT IF in the vision, Rey is looking from the POV of Luke when Ren stops the other KoR from killing her/him?
Luke lead his students to destroy this growing Vader-cult threat and they all got wiped out. During the battle Kylo betrayed them which lead to their deaths.
He then spares Luke as he has other plans that we are yet to learn of but link to why he is hell bent to find Luke rather than just prevents others from finding him (as Snoke desires).

^THIS. Maybe this is the twist we all are looking for.
According to the script of TFA, Kylo Ren killed a clan leader in the force vision. This person belonged to the castle in the background, Vader's castle. Oh boy, this would be great.

The whole thing about that clan leader business got very confusing. That is what he was called in the credits. But then he has been called "A KoR".
It makes more sense that he is a KoR as he facing away from the KoR and attacking someone else.

    Anyway...

In the original leaks it is said that Maz stole the Skywalker Lightsaber off of the KoR. Maz also says in the novel that she "has never given up hope on him [Luke]".

Perhaps Maz went to the castle to aid Luke in some way and then got the saber (after Luke's Jedi were destroyed?). Maz may have helped rescue Luke and then he went away?

hmmm, but it seems quite a far stretch that Luke is so easily beaten. I can see it that Luke's Jedi indeed attacked and fought the dark side cult, but a beaten by Kylo/Ben and not killed Luke is too much, when you see how weak he is against Rey in TFA.
