Doubt it. It'll make a ton of money and crack $1B for sure, but only three movies in history have made $2B. Of those three, only two of those movies made that much in a single run. None of the films were in a series that saturated the market at the time, and all three were initially released in December, where there is little competition. Avengers: Infinity War is set to come out in May, one of the most competitive windows of the year, and it's not the only MCU movie that will be released in the same frame.

Good points and well-taken. However I think Infinity War, being the culmination of the MCU films, will have tremendous appeal and legs at the box office. Any ideas what other films are slated to come out in the same timeframe?

The current schedule for 2018 makes it look as though AIW will have room for itself for about three weeks while a few smaller movies pop up, although that will likely change in the next few months. It comes off the trail of three tent-poles - A Wrinkle In Time, The Invisible Man, and Rampage - from the previous month, all of which should share the Top 12 or so with Avengers for a while. The first bit of real competition it faces after release is, ironically enough, another Disney movie - Han Solo!

The Star Wars spin-off and the Marvel film will go up against one another for a whole two weeks (as it currently stands). That's followed by Oceans Eight (which I imagine is going to move to avoid competition with Transformers: Bumblebee, the other movie that comes out on the same day), which is followed by The Incredibles 2, which is followed by Jurassic World 2, which is followed by Barbie and a Fox/Marvel movie (most likely Deadpool 2, seeing as they're still casting Cable and filming has yet to begin; Barbie will most likely move now that the movie doesn't have an actress attached to it).

Basically, Han Solo, Transformers: Bumblebee, Jurassic World 2 are going to cut into Avengers: Infinity War's legs. But by then, it's going to have made a lot of its money anyway. I think it's safe to say that it's going to outdo Avengers: Age Of Ultron domestically, though.

Justice League trailer looks good! But for some reason I think the untitled Han solo film will be moved in December. I hope they don't move it but I have a bad feeling that they will.

That is your opinion. The momentum has been shifting back and forth between these companies for a long time nothing new about that. Also I would recommend the Marvel thread if you want to talk about how awesome Marvel is lol. (vader)

That would dick over Lord & Miller's other movie - Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man - which is something they won't do because they're going to make money off of that movie's merchandise. Plus, Aquaman being there would ensure that there's already significant competition in place, which is the primary incentive to make a movie that releases in that window. Mary Poppins Returns already has a release date there, too, and since that's an actual Disney movie, they won't move to compete with their own brand.

Just watched the new Justice League trailer, not bad, but not good enough to make me forget my misgivings about Snyder though. I saw the most recent Wonder Woman trailer at the movies the other day, and I can honestly say that it looks awesome. It may be the first DCEU movie that I fully enjoy, time will tell of course.

I'm aware of Aquaman, Mary poppins, and Ultimate Spiderman release dates, but those dates are not written in stone. Anything can happen during the production of those films. I think that they are all tentative. But thanks for the reply. Your confidence has put aside some of my worry. I just can't believe we are getting 2 Star Wars film months apart. I wonder how are they gonna market both films in the fall.

I've heard that they're gonna start marketing Han Solo a lot earlier than we're expecting, for one thing - it's not going to be like they wait until The Last Jedi comes out to start talking about it. Disney D23 is going to be where a good amount of focus is placed on the spin-off. In some respects, I think that it'll be handled like WB has handled marketing for Wonder Woman and Justice League at the same time - the closer movie gets more attention, but the other movie is still consistently updated.

Is anyone here worried that JL will be too light hearted and funny? I don't mind it being lighter than BVS, but I just don't want it to be too light..

I'm not worried about that. It will not be as dark and somber as BvS(which i am not at all ashamed to say I love). It will have some laughs, but I expect it will still maintain the overall darker tone as compared to the MCU films. For me, this is great. The light, campy tone works well for the MCU. I like the DCEU maintaining the contrasting darker tone. I think the contrasting styles will play well for both studios/CUs to be very successful going forward.

Yeah I thought the tone of BVS was perfect! For the story and Batman!! I feel lighter tone is fitting with characters like the Flash! I just don't want no forced stuff, ya know?

I'm worried they will overcorrect on the tone. As someone who hated the theatrical cut of BvS, I would say the tone had little to do with the problems of the movie. MoS had a darker tone too, but it didn't hurt the movie IMO.

if youve seen the wonder woman , then they wouldnt suddenly switch to a "lighthearted" tone. The trailers alone prove that. Just ebcause a movie has witty banter and shots doesnt mean that it is being overcorrected

I'm more concerned with Justice League than Wonder Woman. Namely because it's by Zack Snyder and WB's trust in him seems to be shaken after BvS. Studio meddling is what I'm concerned with more than anything. Look at how Suicide Squad turned out, they let a freaking trailer company help edit the film.

at the same time look at the physical numbers in terms of ROI +profit and then be concerned because unless his movies make $30m or less at the domestic bo, they will keep churning them out

I could care less about that stuff, what I care about is whether the movies are good or not. Studio meddling and focusing on the wrong things tends to result in worse movies. While even the director's cut of BvS still isn't my cup of tea, I'll easily admit that it is a far better film than the awful cut that we got in theaters thanks to studio interference. WB definitely has not earned my trust with the DCEU thus far, but hope springs eternal, maybe they'll finally start to get things right.

I agree with you on the first part. Unfortunately, they treat it as more business than creatively, although the business does run things at the end of the day. There is no middle ground from what we can tell at the moment. I think things could/should be better explained story wise from the past and the present as well as better care of taking responsibility when parts of a territory of a fanbase is negatively affected.
