I would like to feel the same as you, except I just read this: http://www.mtv.com/news/3050222/margot-robbie-developing-harley-quinn-movie/

Suicide Squad was the absolute worst of the entire batch of films, by far. There is a part of me that hopes that they will just move on like it didn't happen and reboot Joker for the future. Still, we hear about the Joker and Harley movie which in concept alone sounds absolutely like a story that should stay in comics and is not in he least bit worthy of the big screen, but here we are. So, not only is that happening, but still a SS2 and a completely different Harley movie.

After settling down with my 2nd viewing of Justice League, this news kills all hope that I had that WB might be standing on the edge of working it out.

Now I can only wait until there is a house-cleaning at the top of the WB so that we can get new blood in there to right this ship. I won't spend another dime on their movies until they pull their collective heads out.

How are they even considering this other crap when all that they can do for their core heroes is give us a mediocre film that can barely pull a profit? WTH could they possibly be thinking?

I enjoyed it as a guilty pleasure/leave-your-brain-at-the-door entertainment, but I understand why it's the least popular one. But you have to understand that the real issue with the film wasn't the concept, but the fact that it was rushed to fit a release date and then remade halfway through to be something it wasn't supposed to be in order to "correct" things instead of spending that time in post-production to make a better movie.

The thing you have to keep in mind is that Suicide Squad was a hit, and one that resonated with a significant portion of its audience - regardless of whether or not you agree with that. So of course they're going to make a sequel, that's just how this business works. The thing is, the film has an advantage in the sense that it has a much greater amount of time devoted to actually making it and correcting what went wrong with the first film. As for the spin-offs, I can't say anything about how they'll turn out - but DC is capitalizing on the fact that, regardless of what people thought of the movie, they liked her performance, which is objectively smart. (How they're approaching things isn't smart at the moment, but that's because - again - they haven't made their game plan clear.)

My opinion of Suicide Squad isn't even the point. It is that they are still entertaining ideas of having these B-Squad movies when they cannot get more than mediocre public response from the two greatest heroes in print. ANY positive momentum that can be gleaned from JL will have faded by the time that they get back to it.

"It's okay to be DC movie loyalist and fan; I've been on the side of defending Zack Snyder films likeMan of Steel, and Batman v Superman (The Ultimate Edition) since they hit theaters. It's okay to enjoy those films for their depth and complexity, even when others see a drab and boring superhero film - or to see complicated modern depictions of your beloved DC heroes, when others just see them being "ruined." If art is meant to invite different interpretation and debate, then Zack Sndyer has indeed been a master artist while making his DCEU films, so whatever side of the love/hate divide you're on, it's a reasonable side to take.

However, what's not reasonable is going to a place of delusion in blind defense of your side: right now, it's clear that the DC Films brand has little to no momentum.

Wonder Woman 2... that's the only real, tangible, project propelling the entire DC Films brand, at the moment. Jason Mamoa's Aquaman was a breakout character in Justice League, but until (and unless) we see something show-stopping from James Wan's first Aquaman trailer -which wasn't even ready to go for Justice League, by the way - there is currently nothing tangible on the DCEU radar to be excited about for the next year.Even if characters like Aquaman, Shazam and Wonder Woman have successful film franchises, the shared universe brand still hasn't been firmly established in any real way, shape, or form. Justice League was a "Frankenstein-ed" mess of a film that seemed totally at odds with itself, in terms of style and tone, and that conflict seems to be the very definition of what this DC Films brand currently is."

    http://comicbook.com/dc/2017/12/02/avengers-infinity-war-justice-league-mcu-vs-dceu/

The ONLY thing that DC is capitalizing on is Wonder Woman because Justice League barely opened better than Dr Strange and only made more than just under $2,000 more per theater. That is absolutely unacceptable no matter how anyone tries to cut it. They have a year until we see Aquaman and 2 years before we see Wonder Woman 2 with a supposed Shazam film in the middle there somewhere. That doesn't look good.

All that ranting aside, if I wanted to read Batman and Superman comics, but didn't wanna buy all of the different ones, what should I read? Is there one main continuity right now?

I partially agree, Aquaman doesn't excite me. WW2 does tho. I'm not sure how much JL is supposed to make in November; the fact that it beat a 90% movie by $2k/theater and Thor3 ain't making Avenger money either one wonders how much you can really milk out of the November box.. especially with TLJ around the corner.
Not saying the movie is good, just saying there may be a ceiling to profitability in a November release. People ain't Xmas shopping in May, y'all. But I am saying the WB over estimates the profit on these films. They did it on BvS; they did it here too. The question is should we believe their numbers. Was Dark Kight's box the rule.. or was it the exception? Wonder Woman makes me think it was the latter.

I think the issue here is that TDK and TDKR both did so well that the new guard that came in after either of those were made were presuming that every movie that they'd make would do similar business. Both of those movies scored massive box office hauls because Christopher Nolan has a great reputation as a filmmaker, the movies had good word-of-mouth, and TDK had an Oscar-winning performance from a beloved actor who tragically passed away before his time. Unfortunately, cape movies - aside from the three he directed - aren't really his thing, and they wanted him to be the architect for future movies. Aside from Patty Jenkins, the other creative teams haven't been able to capture the same kind of magic.

The typical floor for a typical superhero movie these days seems to be $600M - something Justice League will definitely clear in spite of the post-Thanksgiving week causing a big drop in attendance stateside. Right now, the movie is performing along the lines of how Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them did domestically; abroad, it's playing like a stronger version of Wonder Woman. So it seems as though November is a window that has its limits (I hold that a March 2018 window would have been much better for this movie) and the real issue affecting the movie is that the budget was insanely high as the result of the circumstances it was made under. (They've signaled that future movies in the series probably won't exceed $200M a pop - Aquaman will apparently cost $160M, which is a little more than what it took to make Thor.) The end result, I think, is that Justice League will break even and ultimately reach a slight profit, or at least come close enough to doing so that they can siphon off a portion of Wonder Woman's profits and say that the brand has the potential to grow even further.

I think WB approached this franchise like it was The Avengers, but in actuality, it's closer to X-Men. That's not inherently a bad thing, considering that only a few of Marvel's movies have made upwards of $1B (and every single one that did had Robert Downey Junior in them, who is looking to probably retire from the franchise after Avengers 4). I'd argue that that's actually kind of impressive, considering that DC have consistently outdone Fox's Marvel films at the box office even with mixed reception. But, with time, I think this franchise could eventually start producing movies that make over $1B globally. Their real focus, though, needs to be making sure that they've got nothing but critical hits in the near future before they go about doing anything else - Justice League was the last movie they made of the old regime, and their new films need to reflect that they're willing to listen and correct their earlier mistakes.

Right now, it is still a real possibility that JL will just barely break even. It is performing at levels that kills franchises and seeds talk of reboots. Investors don't just give out of loyalty, they have been burned twice now with Dawn of Justice and now Justice League and they are spending more than Disney/Marvel on their productions. Depending on where you pull the numbers, JL cost somewhere between $300million-$350million. Guessing by the extensive re-work on the film, it might be safe to say that we are looking at the more expensive end of that spectrum. Civil War was made for $250million and brought in over a BILLION dollars.

The question more today is not if they have something worth building on, but if they can convince investors to not worry about not getting much on their returns again.

The word from the trades is just below/at $300M, and I'm inclined to believe that given that one such trade listed the break-even point as being $600M provided that Blu-Ray and DVD sales are good. It'll hit that point by next weekend. This situation is more comparable to Superman Returns than Green Lantern at this point. Again, is why it's so important that the hugely-popular Wonder Woman overperformed on a massive level - it softens the blow because it stabilized things.

One issue that was specifically mentioned was that they were concerned with Snyder's budgets on the last two movies he directed - especially considering that, even with a lot of reshoots, Sucide Squad cost $175M to make and had a better return-on-investment. As I've said, they've already indicated that the budget for Aquaman is actually lower than Suicide Squad at $160M, and they similarly announced Wonder Woman's $150M budget before they actually made the movie for $1M less than that. The key for WB is to make sure that one, their forthcoming movies are less expensive than their predecessors, and two, that they really connect with a general audience - something that Justice League partially succeeded at where Batman v. Superman didn't beyond the opening weekend. (Budgetary issues, along with some likely-unspoken creative differences in terms of direction, appear to be why Snyder seems to be moving on from the setting aside from maybe being a producer.)

I think a big reason why Shazam! has been greenlit as well is because it's going to be an inexpensive movie, which wouldn't be surprising based on David F. Sandberg's earlier work. The Batman will do well regardless of whether or not we're dealing with Ben Affleck or Jake Gyllenhall (as he's rumored to be a potential replacement should Affleck call it quits) and Wonder Woman 2 should be another hit. Suicide Squad 2 is a question mark based on it not necessarily being a sure thing from a development standpoint right now, but odds are that it will cost less than its predecessor. From there, they've indicated that they want to do some smaller movies (which is why I think that they're intent on making Batman spin-offs, as those don't need to be CGI-fests) until they become more stable and take a crack at another Justice League.

A Disastrous Justice League Sends Warner Bros. into a Panic
A major leadership shake-up is afoot at DC Films.

    https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywoo...c-box-office-geoff-johns-jon-berg-zack-snyder

"After Justice League stumbled not only critically but, crucially, at the box office as well, Johns and Berg are reportedly out—and Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, et. al. are once again a group of heroes in search of a leader."

"According to Variety, Berg will leave his advisory role but remain a producer at Warner Bros., working closely with Roy Lee (The Lego Movie, It), while Johns will stay chief creative officer at DC Entertainment, working in TV, publishing, and consumer products. But “going forward, his work on the films may evolve, and could be more advisory in nature.” Warner Bros. is reportedly planning to either announce a replacement for Johns and Berg as early as January, or simply absorb the leadership of DC Films into the studio’s larger filmmaking operation."

There is more at the link including talk of Ben Affleck being done with Batman.

Word is that the new Batman actor (possibly Jon Hamm) is going to appear in the Matt Reeves movie and that The Flash: Flashpoint is Batfleck's swan song (which suggests that he didn't want to commit to an entire trilogy of standalones). Given the way that the story ends, this is probably the most poetic way they could go about switching him with a new actor.

I honestly can't wait for Kevin Tsujihara to resign at this point so he can stop messing with these movies. The switch-up that just happened here is a clear knee-jerk reaction that never would have happened if they didn't try to fast-track Justice League without properly gauging the response to Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice first.

I think the silver lining out of all of this, at the very least, is that they've opted to take their time with everything after Justice League. To me, the fact that they delayed both The Flash and The Batman in order to make sure that they got them right was a definite step in the right direction, although neither case happened under ideal circumstances. This franchise needs someone who can properly manage it instead of cleaning up after the mess that an executive caused and is refusing to take responsibility for. Johns is at least staying aboard as an advisor, but he shouldn't have been demoted in the way that he just was.

I think DC Movies are just BAD, let's keep The Batman Movies out of this picture because they were SUPERB (Both Nolan and Burton Sequences), people are staying away from them because they are poor Movies and when compared to Marvel latest movies they get Obliterated in Quality, Performance, Imagination, Overall Narrative, Character Development, and off course Smashed In The Box Office.

"Dawn of Justice" and "Justice League" were AWFUL Movies, with terrible acting performances over a super poor story. Why they keep pushing Aquaman as a main character? ("Aquaman Sucks UnderWater" Rajesh)
Let's not get into "The Green Lantern" Movie because that's starting to get embarassing.
"Suicide Squad" has some brilliant moments, the Box Office was not that bad but the movie lacked something to work as a blockbuster, perhaps a super heroe to the audience identify or a much better story for the characters evolve on.
"Wonder Woman" was a huge surprise because nobody expected that movie did that well, but it's a Great Movie with a fair story portraided by a good actress, just like any other Marvel Movie.
Last "Superman" Movies didn't connect with the audience. I believe Superman is aging really bad and all the Comic\Movie goers of today don't care that much about a supersupersupersuper powerfull "Alien" who flies around in tights and disguises himself with a pair of glasses, John Byrne started to depower SuperMan in Comics, creating super space orientated stories, and get canned. The last atention SuperMan really got was 20 years ago when DC Killed him, it might be time for DC Kill SuperMan on screen and start a new wave of DC Super Heroes Movies.
The DC TV Shows are very good, "Green Arrow", "The Flash" and "Gotham" have very good story plots and super interesting characters\actors. Why DC can't take that to the Silver Screen, especially when they are allready spending so much money to do it?

Let's face it, Marvel characters where always better characters than DC ones, Batman apart off course, they have personall backstories and flaws like anybody else, Marvel characters could be your next door neighburs. BUT DC stories where always better told and much ellaborated than Marvel ones. Why is Marvel so succefull in the Movies? Because they have super appealing characters, with real personalities\flaws and they don't look ridicully out of touch in the world (Iron Man looks cool flying around and i do believe a Robot armour man could fly here but a man in tights and a cape?), and Marvel is getting the stories simple and running (you don't need to read anything to experience and understand a Marvel Movie). Also remember the key for a good super heroe are his villains, Marvel always had great villains while DC don't, Batman aside again but that might be the cause Batman is such a diferent character from any other DC Character.

In Conclusion, if DC wan't to have good Movies, Movies thsat the Audience actually liked it, they need:
    - Strong, Believable Characters (like Wonder Woman or Flash)
    - Simple and Action Packet Plots (just make your hero defeat the bad guys and save the day, that's it, nothing to absurdous)
    - Have Great Villains (a Powerfull Villain will boost oyur Hero feats, but make your Villains credible like the Joker not like Darkseid and other super stellar treaths)

Just to say one word to Geoff Johns, is one of the Best DC Scripters, but i don't think he could deliver a 120 minute story, starting and ending in one movie.

I am from a different camp. I believe that Batman and Superman are the two greatest characters of all-time superhero wise. However, Marvel is far better at making films out of their Heroes and they are far more entertaining to watch on the big screen right now. My Hope Is that DC and Warner Brothers pull their hair Collective heads out of their Rears and work things out. Please forgive the random capitalized word I'm using voice to text.

I sincerely pray that those films were omitted because they are being back Bernhard or dropped altogether.
