So the term Skywalker being synonymous with Hope? The galaxy probably doesn't know Luke is dead. They think he's just all powerful and practically a God. I mean if word spread on what he did on Crait. Normal people would think he's the savior of the Galaxy.

Exactly. And The Rise of Skywalker sounds better (and offers more fodder for speculation) than The Rise of Hope (though 'it rhymes' meme would be fun).

There is a reason why George called Episode IV: A New Hope. Also, Rian showing the slave kids playing with a Luke Skywalker figure and recreating the battle of Crait. It obviously spread like wildfire.

Kylo is constantly compared to his Skywalker heritage. So the setup is there. I think you are taking the title a little to literal.

Agree to disagree. We will see in December.

Right, which is why the Resistance has seemingly more allies in this fight. The word spread. Luke's legend grew.

The galaxy still doesn't know who Kylo Ren really is or who Rey is.

    We need a NEW legend.

    "Every Generation Has a Legend"

    The Rise of Skywalker

I keep coming back to Rey needing to be the Legend and part of the title's meaning.

Hmm made me think what if "The Rise of Skywalker" doesnt even refer to anything specific in the movie, but more the legend of Luke Skywalker that ignited the galaxy to fight back and join the Resistance.

It's possible also. I and others have mentioned this. All options are technically equally possible at this point

Well, they are not technically equally possible because the story has been in the can for a while and filming is done. Equally possible relative to our theorizing, but not in reality. This is the cinematic version of Schrodinger's cat.

1 Like for the Schrodinger's cat reference.

I was under the impression that they are still doing reshoots and cutting and editing. So maybe there's a little variability still left.

I believe the title simply refers to the return of Luke.
He was MIA in the many years since Kylo took out the Jedi Temple/New Jedi Order...until Crait.
Word spread and the Galaxy has hope again.
    It is time!!

Luke won't have a huge role. I expect two scenes at a max. But his name can be used as symbol of hope and to get supporters for the final fight.

I agree with you about the fact that Luke doesn't have a large role in this. I'm thinking a scene and voiceover. Hopefully, those scenes and dialogue will be pivotal to the story and which show Luke as the Luke audiences know.

I think the title has multiple meanings, but when you look at three films and nine films, somehow the Skywalker line will be vindicated with Rey at the helm.

What if "Skywalker" refers to Leia and Luke here.
"Join the Skywalkers, join the Resistance"
"Be a hero and do it like the Skywalkers"
Or like people said above already,
"Skywalker's heirs rising" is just standing for the new Generation of fighters against the evil and for a brighter future.
And Rey is the leading embodiment for this on-going fight of the Skywalkers.

Is it possible that they are talking about a different Skywalker? Like Anakin Skywalker?

For me the title is all about Luke SkyWalker. He try to built a school for a NEW generation of jedi.Snoke in episode VIII is looking for him to kill him.Kylo destroy his plans about the academy."He has to much of Vader in him."...Han Solo mention it.When Luke try to kill Kylo he stop.Luke sense that he was a big problem for his plans and more. When he see that all was destroy with his academy he run away and he will never take part of it again about the jedi.Luke for me knows a lot about the jedi and they origins.I think that ALL this knowledge will be part of Rey now.The ending of this episode MUST be a master piece to bring the balance to ALL the fans and to the force.JJ has this opportunity in his hands and I think he will do it.JJ will rise the name of Skywalker in the SW history BUT I agree that Rey will be the next hero and legend.Like Luke said in the TROS teaser to Rey...."This is YOUR fight".... and believe me....Is personal.Hoping that this feeling don't goes against her.It will be a GREAT "fight" inside her like Luke has his own "fight" inside him.The Rise of Skywalker is about how Luke come back into reality and accept that the jedi is part of his name.If i'm wrong in something or in all written here....Guys... Is a movie that I don't watch it yet...:)

Yes! I see it in DSII! Pretty clear in 1:12 and 1:13. LOL

    ds2 dish.jpg

Love all the speculations and theories we have all in our minds.
At the end all could be so much different than we think lol. Is like Rey and Kylo being the same person in the past but the Emperor separated both sides from the same body. Gosh, I love so much the previous months of this films.

    And remember the logo:
-blue is the color of sky and divinity in Egypt (the rise who created Skywalker? the rise of a divinity we don't know? a Skywalker we know becoming a divinity, a legend?).
-blue is the veneration of the Virgin Mary in Middle Ages (Shmi Skywalker and the rise of his son, Anakin, the legend?).
-In European Renaissance there was an harmony between blue and red in the revolution of paintings (two colors of main lightsabers), balancing the two colors (balance of the Force?).
-In 18th century, the blue became a symbol of liberty and revolution (Resistance and last Jedi giving peace and freedom to the Galaxy?).

-And... Blue has a big emotional power in 20th and 21th in its pure form. Most important emotions of blue are sadness and melancholy (the death of an important main ST character? the rise and end of Skywalker? the end of the galaxy as we know?)...

-...Blue blood and young (the rise of someone who has Skywalker blood in their veins? Kylo? Rey? Blue is more associated to boys. Broom boy?)...

-...Is the color of purity, calm and stability (rise of the white Rey?)...

-...Is the color of torment, ghosts or house of death (rise of the emperor?)...

-...The color of tragedy (rise of Darth Plagueis the wise?)...

-...And also a new hope, optimism from the (Luke, Leia) sky (walker?).

I think I could go on and on. I will stop here...

...because simply is the color they have chosen to differentiate the three movies.

This happens when I have to work in a festivity and having access to a computer ;P. Cheers.

Near the Death Star 2 there is this red planet:

    IMG_20190422_105736.jpg
And now we have this shot of Kylo fighting in a reddish area:
