Because they know the story and we don't. Their perspective is very different from ours.

"From a certain point of view..." is totally cliche, but totally apt.

Well there's a shot in a TFA teaser of Maz handing a saber to I believe Leia. That obviously didn't end up in the film. Then there's a infamous R1 shot Jyn approaching a TIE. We won't know till December 20th.

^ Things being taken out of a film through the editing process after appearing in an 'early-cut' Teaser trailer is a far different scenario than a Teaser trailer being cut to be deliberately misleading and misdirective, which is what I think some people have come to assume is the case... and is the reason that I brought up the cast's answer when they were asked about that subject directly.

I still think that Rae is catching a ride from Kylo and they are in a hurry to get somewhere and he doesn't have time to stop for her. I think that the lightsaber being ignited might be misdirection, However, I would not be upset to see her slice a wing off of it either.

^ As I said above, all 8 cast members who appeared at Celebration said in an on-camera group interview that they did not believe that the teaser trailer was misdirective or misleading in any way, which lessens the liklihood of the opening scene of it being anything other than straightforward in terms of what it depicts.

But that's not considered to be misdirections. It's just a classic example of "left on the cutting floor".

But some shots of this teaser trailer may be misleading. *cough* Rey vs Kylo *cough* But the cast definitely meant the feel of the movie is depicted correctly. It's an adventure with all the main people together, who will face the forces of evil.

It seems odd to me that he would be repairing his helmet in this movie over a year after TLJ. I wonder if he has a new one that gets damaged in episode IX.

    I have two theories:

    1) As Supreme Leader Kylo Ren goes by the name of Ben Solo, but he also needs an enforcer => a masked Kylo Ren.
    2) The mask gets fixed without Kylo's permission. Maybe the KOR want their master back, so they force him to wear it.

There are several other possibilities to explain why the mask is back. Like Kylo is still torn apart, especially after he lost another mentor figure etc.

Unusual that Kylo kept those broken bits after he smashed the helmet to smithereens and left it in the lift... I bet some stormtrooper sold it in the black market and someone else is going to be using it... mistaken identities. Very Shakespeare. I love it!

That’s Kylo’s helmet. There have been leaked photos and posters that show his helmet put back together with the red holding it together. He may not be the one fixing it but it is his helmet

Stabbed him in the gut with the cross guard.

RE: Misdirection, JJ did say that they weren't playing any games with the trailer and then went on to talk about how he had to tie this to all 8 movies.

Though I am sticking by my initial reaction that if the are using Skywalker in the title (not Solo, as in Ben Solo) and they revealed the Emperor, then the twist is going to be a doozy.

Keep in mind also that even though they dropped a teaser and it may not be misdirection, they are still editing and working on this picture. Scenes may not be as depicted. Those scenes we saw before from other trailers that did not show up in the movie are proof this happens. This even happened in The Empire Strikes Back trailer. They can fix change in post and do all the time. Even so, I'm excited just from the images they have shown us.

Ian himself says not to take the teaser so seriously as it was a previously recorded laugh and just a teaser. Take that for what you will, but for this to be the end goal for ST from the very beginning it would be disappointing (to say the least) if he say had Luke's role in TFA...

Ben Solo has Skywalker blood though. It doesn't matter what his last name is.

He is indeed, by blood, a Skywalker. But I think ultimately Palpatine is going to do a cameo, and there is no redemption to be had for Ben. His fate is sealed as he makes his commitment clear and unequivocal in TLJ. For the good of the GFFA, he probably has to die and end the physical Skywalker legacy.

Vader's arc wasn't decided in Empire... I think Kylo dying would be pretty boring/predictable.

Do you think his redemption would be boring and predictable too? It seems to be the favored betting horse right now. What other plausible outcomes are there right now from your view. Redemption is one, death is another, what else? From my view, I'm thinking we aren't able to end the Skywalker saga without dealing definitively in some way with Kylo. Whatever happens in TROS seems like it would have to be final one way or another.

I think him living whether he's good or bad is better then a redemption/death or the good guys just kill him because he is bad and it's the final act. In a perfect world, I would prefer redemption/living. We haven't had that outcome, it would be something different.

I don't think they will paint themselves into a corner and end the Skywalker lineage completely. I think the whole "last of the Skywalker Saga" crap is just to create anticipation. Lucasfilm and Disney will always make the best possible business decision and they have no idea if "non-Skywalker" films will ever be as popular. Solo is proof of that. That's why I think Kylo will now live and be redeemed. Especially since the biggest evil is returning in Palpatine. Kylo Ren is not the Supreme Leader we are looking for.

I also don't think Ben Solo returning is in any way what the title is indicating. It simply doesn't make sense when neither of his parents have the Skywalker last name. I believe it's Luke or Rey. Rey because she takes the last name, not because she's blood.

    Geonosis?

There was a rumor about re-visiting a droid factory and the need for C3PO's memories related to the same... Just sayin'...
