Did Anakin know he was the Chosen One?

Anakin knows he’s the Chosen as in gnosis (to know about) because Qui-Gon with Anakin in the Council Chamber says, “He is the Chosen One, you must see it.” Did Anakin know as in his own soul and consciousness, no I think not. His words to Padme, “I want more and I know ai shouldn’t” (ROTS), shows he and the Jedi are blind to his calling; because the Chosen One is not meant to be an ordinary Jedi. Why the Council and Kenobi insisted on stifling and comtrolling.Anakin when they believed he was the Chosen One is paradoxical and foolish.

 

Perhaps he did. But Anakin has never discussed it. He has talked about how powerful he was with the Force. But I've never heard him discuss the prophecy (at least in the films) or refer to himself as the Chosen One.

 

Its the only instance prior to his conversion to Vader that Anakin directly hears he’s the Chosen One.

We Sith have a counter prophecy to the Chosen One called the Sith’ari:

 

In the ROTS novel Obi Wan tells him he is. But I don't think Anakin cared or took it into consideration he was. He knew he was special though.

And said he will be the most powerful Jedi ever

 

Anakin indeed said in AOTC that he would become the most powerful Jedi ever! I will wver learn to keep people from dying.” What is interesting is Anakin never rebuffs the Jedi Council or Kenobi by saying “I am the Chosen One! How can you not make me a Jedi Master?!”

 

In addition to what’s already been stated, the Mortis trilogy from The Clone Wars season 3 contains some of the best canonical proof we have of him knowing that he’s the Chosen One. While on Mortis, Anakin is constantly referred to as the Chosen One by and he doesn’t seem surprised about this. He’s even outright told that his actions there had brought balance and that he would one day bring balance again.

Although he never really brings up the prophecy, I have no doubt that his supposed destiny played a big role in his overconfidence the older he grew.

So while we can’t be certain if Anakin believed he was the Chosen One or not, we know for a fact that he was definitely aware that others believed him to be the Chosen One.

 

It is interesting Anakin never develops an ego directly on the Chosen One Prophecy. Instead its over his desire to keep his promise to Shimi and Padme, that he will become so powerful that he can “keep those he loves from dying.” Anakin seems less motivated by the prophecy and more by personal interest via relationships.

 

This is the correct answer.

 

It is intriguing that Anakin does get egotistical over the prophecy but actually seems to pay it no heed. It tells us he is not motivated by pride but by fear, particularly fear of losing those he loves.

 

Hmmm... I don't know. I think he was aware of it, and from time to time he was arrogant not only because he was more talented but because he knew it. He knew he was different/special. But yes, his primary motivation, especially after the loss of his mother, was the fear of losing that which he loves.

 

What I am curious about is how much Obi-Wan and the Jedi Council talked about his Chosen One Prophecy im his presence? Or did they simply talk about it in private?
