    He seems to have been a projection of Ben's mind - or possibly created by Leia. As far as we know, only Jedi who possess knowledge of how to materialize as Force Ghosts can physically appear and interact with the mundane world.

    I really like the idea that Leia was the reason for and actually enabled Ben to re-live this moment with his father again... whether she conjured a Force projection or otherwise.
