    The original shot list was Luke fighting Vader but it's never implied in the shooting-spec script as far as I remember but the boy is supposedly ther.

    I'm really tempted to steal that, but I don't think I will :).
    Psychologilisation (yes, it's a real word ;)) never sits well with the Skywalker family. Both Anakin and Luke ignored Mater Yoda's advice, Ben probably ignored Luke's as well. They're too busy internalising! :D

    I don't think Ben's had the saber before, otherwise it wouldn't have flown directly to Rey. Otherwise there would have been some kind of facial expression battle oncreen :D.

    See, I might be wrong but everyone seems to think that a) The saber itself is what called to eRy and that the saber chose Rey instead of Ben.
    I thought what happened was the Force spoke to Rey through the saber and that Rey simply overpowered Ren with her Force power to get the saber...

    I'm not sure what was in the novel about this or in the script. Will have to check. I just recall it from the leaks that seemed to be legit - so took it to mean that it was originally in the script but cut in the final version.

    Well, considering that kyber crystals are force-sensitive, perhaps more of the lighter-hearted Anakin at the time of his bonding with that crystal was in Rey. Thus it chose her.

    Yeah, i'm not adverse to that idea. I can see that this is perhaps something the new stories will use. I guess I just see it as being more about the Force itself rather than the lightsaber. I guess it's pretty much the same: the force alone vs the force stored within the saber. But I just read it on screen as the Force speaking to Rey. Just sounds a bit Harry Potterish for the saber (wand) to chose it's owner.

    Just stepping back a bit...

    Never mind Ben, but what of Luke's other students? Would they have had lightsabers? Would Luke be teaching them to use lightsabers?
    I know Ren is powerful but he didn't exactly do all that well vs Finn/Rey.
    How would've coped 7 years prior vs potentially multiple Jedi students (when he destroyed the Jedi) with lightsabers?
    I wonder if Ben/Kylo took the saber when he destroyed the Jedi? I just feel that he msut've had it at some point. But it could just be that he got it from the Clan as in these original leaks.

    i can't find it currently, but wasn't there a leak showing some lightsaber props allegedly used for ep 8?

    i'm sure i've seen a picture of a rather plain looking saber hilt and a story saying that many were used?

    I believe somehow Ben Solo was given the "Skywalker" lightsaber; his in your face plea seems to support that fact.

    When you think about the declaration made Ben is claiming something which has been a part of his life in one way or another. Was it given to him by his mother, did he recover it with the Clan (previous pre-VII rumor from call sheets) or does he feel the Force pull as a "Skywalker"?

    In the original call sheets, the saber was sold to a wealthy man 'clan leader probably' by a trader 'fat cat'. Reading the new canon comics, I guess this trader was meant to be 'Grakkus the Hut'.

    Its quite possible you may be right; but this declaration and Han reaction to seeing it in Maz's Castle makes me believe it was his; Of course Han Solo used it once (ESB) to open a Tantun to save himself and Luke but would be really recognize a lightsaber like that unless his son had been in possession of it?

    "Where did you get that?! - Han Solo to Maz Kanata Ep. VII"

    Han Solo recognizes it, Ben recognizes it.. (in this case one plus one may actually equal two) if Ben would've only felt the Force connection to it I believe his reaction might have been different.

    I think they changed this and originally the Bespin saber was meant to be the MacGuffin. This role was given to Luke and now you may be right and that the saber belonged to Ben before he turned. The trader + clan stuff may be skipped completely. ;)

    The MillenniumFalcon.com outline explicitly mentions Maz stealing the lightsaber from the KOR. Presumably, this is after the village slaughter, which I should stress is not related to Luke's Jedi enclave. Based on their call sheet, I take it that the "Fat Cat" that was mentioned on MSW was meant to be the "local trader" that appeared during the planned lightsaber relay race/montage which was ultimately cut from the movie.

    In any case, it would only make sense that Ben was being taught with his grandfather's weapon - it seems as though the art of constructing a lightsaber is something he never completely learned, which is evidenced by none of the other KOR having lightsabers of their own, and his own lightsaber being an unstable model based on an obsolete version of the weapon.

    I guess the question is, would Han recognise Luke's saber if he hadn't seen it since he sliced open the Tauntaun?
    My view is that Ben didn't get to use the saber as Luke didn't have it. It could change but I have a feeling that the whole original leaked outline is the truth.
    The saber was found on Cloud City. Taken by someone but eventually found itself in the possession of a clan led by a rich man who then lost it to the KoR who then lost it to Maz. The point of it is that it is trying to get back to Luke. And I reckon when Ren did get his hands on it he had some Vader visions and was pretty pissed when he lost it.

    another interesting thought, that was mentioned on the last page:

    "Show me again, the power of the darkness. Show me, grandfather."

    So...Kylo had an encounter of sorts with Vader? His helmet? His Force ghost? A trick of Snoke's?

    Really interested to learn more about that...
