I've been wondering this for a long time. Do you think he buried Anakin somewhere else and then burned his things?

Or did he burn him in it which would be kinda ironic. Got burned to be put in the suit and mask. Gets burned to ashes within it.

    I think he seperated him.

no, i don’t think Anakin was separated from the suite. it became part of him after all. I think it was a ceremonial cremation.

on the other hand the Ewoks just might have been hungry...

I think Anakin cooked in that suit like a sardines in a can. That's a Jedi Burial; Same as Qui-Gon.

In old Legends canon, Luke burnt only the armor because Anakin's body just disappeared and became one with the Force, like Obi-Wan's and Yoda's. It happened off-screen and was explained somewhere else (novel, comic, I don't remember...)
I don't know how are they addressing this issue in the new canon

I am not disputing your knowledge of the Legends canon, but rather the canon itself: Vader clearly did not vanish into Forceland. We saw Luke dragging Vader's dead weight to the shuttle he stole to get off the Death Star, and then we see Vader's corpse slumped over in a seat. Someone probably helped Luke lug Vader off the ship (I like to think it was Chewy), and someone probably helped him build the funeral pyre. There was probably discussion of whether anyone else wanted to attend the small ceremony Luke conducted for his deceased father. Even Leia did not attend, nor the droids who had lived and fought alongside Anakin for so long (and I believe Artoo's memory was intact even if Threepio's had been wiped). But Luke burnt Anakin's corpse, then likely disposed of the ashes. Maybe he first removed Vader's prostheses and donated them to the fund for retired rogue pilots or somesuch.

In other words, though he turned back to the light side long enough to kill the Emperor, Vader's midichlorians were still too steeped in dark energy for him to merge bodily with The Force. If that is part of the Legends canon, it is one more point on which the Legends canon is mistaken.

I believe he burnt the suit & mask to remove the last trace of his darkness he had.

If I remember correctly, Lucas himself said in the commentary for ROTJ that Anakin's body disappeared and only his armor was burned. This never sat well with me or made any sense, but this can be said for much of Lucas's material.

My theory before the prequels was that an un-pure Jedi could not become a force ghost unless his body was cremated. Only the purest in the force would disappear and become force ghosts on their own.
