The First time i watched the film and Luke passed, I took the twin suns as a HUGE nod to the first way we see our hero in the contemplating his place was looking towards the horizon, and then ends his journey and his place imagining those same two suns. coming full circle.

what do you guys think? was it imagined or does the Island have two suns?

I guess the wiki is probably getting its information from what we see in the movie, so this may just be a feedback loop, but for what it's worth:

Yeah I had read that before I saw The Last Jedi, not knowing that this would be something with highly symbolical significance in the movie. When I saw it in theatre I completely forgot about the fact that they had already said Ahch-To has two suns.

The way I read it was that Luke was projecting himself back to Tatooine and that time and space in that scene had completely coalesced. Which too some extent is still true. I think the scene is much more powerful when Ahch-To does not have two suns.

I always interpreted the two suns as referring to Luke and Leia.

In the context of the movie, it really doesn't matter - at the end of his journey he is greeted with the same sight that started it. The twin suns gave him the hope then, they are giving him the peace now.

It's like poetry. It rhymes. :D

It's a better story if he imagined or the Force showed him a second sun.

    Ahch-To seems very chilly 4 a 2 sun world.

Maybe. Regardless, it was nice his story ended the same way it began.

If it ended in IX, then the new cast doesn't get the heroes moment....OR....he goes out making little impact. This way, he went out just as he began...and brings HOPE just like he did in the OT.

I realised that the 2 suns that Luke stares and the end of TLJ were real just in my third viewing when I paid attention to the "ying yang" symbol at the temple. The 2 suns are clearly there.

No. The Visual Dictionary has it as Ahch-To orbits twin suns.

    This is interesting.

I think they are supposed to physically be there.

Although at first two suns and one moon seems... unbalanced.

Until you look at it as a Holy Trinity of sorts.. which originally consisted of the father, the mother and the child.

In this case the second sun actually represents Luke Skywalker himself, being the 'son' of Anakin and Padme.

Since the sun is esoterically known to be overtly masculine in it's attributes.. the idea of two suns in the sky together could be symbolic of father and son... or Anakin and Luke.

In ANH it signified Luke longing to be reunited with his father.

In TLJ it signifies Luke finally reuniting with his father.

Maybe when Yoda showed realising he had finished his work in the galaxy. He may have been thinking about Tatooine as well.
