Ben not appearing as a force ghost immediately at the end leaves the way open for the journey from the living to netherworld while still retaining ones identity to be explored in some way or another. Perhaps involving Driver. Perhaps in animation. Who knows?

I'd like that, but a lot of fans sent DLF a petition asking them if they could bring him back in some way, and received a very thorough 'no'; as far as they're concerned the character is 'with his mother', and the Skywalker saga, as Abrams put it, is at an end.

I wouldn't be surprised if they continued Rey and Finn's story however; despite Boyega's somewhat 'negative' comments regarding a possible Finn series, DLF made an issue of saying that they 'stood by him' regarding the #blm protests, and his fans are constantly pointing out that they apparently 'owe' him for misusing Disney's first black leading man. As Ridley is good friends with him I think she'd happily return as well - she did say she'd only come back if he and Oscar Isaac did as well.

Isaac however, has signed on to play Moon Knight so it's not certain if he'd be interested in returning to play Poe.

And I agree that the Skywalker saga should really be about the Skywalkers...and Rey isn't one, no matter what she calls herself.

Yeah, JCF is something else. I like it much better here. :D

But anyway, I'd say it seems clear by now that the ST did not kill Star Wars Saga. But I do wonder what would've happened if The Mandalorian hadn't come out immediately after the ST ended and been such a smash hit.

Well not really, am not the one who started hating and despising characters, just saying for everyone who moans about characters over a selection of medias, that well someone has an opposite trajectory. And yes it is a bit hyperbole and I did regret posting that. There is also a side of my post, that there are sides of fandom who are really toxic, who have acted like spoiled brats because they didn't get what they want, that makes me not regret the post. So yeah your kind of right it is weird to hate a character which is a bit weird; but I do hate the rumpus that has made Star Wars these past few years difficult to enjoy. Waves of voices trying to erase stuff, trying to raise character arcs which were never the fulcrum of the story, hating because it's there right to hate. (Ironic from my post I know but at least am honest with the contradiction with Kylo).

There I said it, your right to question it. But I just prefer Rey and Finn and their characters lack respect in some quarters, I will fight to say yeah, there stories need promoting and telling especially over other characters. They were the stars, the true protagonists, end of.

I think when Star Wars has to rely on the past (OT) with easter eggs, fan service etc. That's what will kill Star Wars, because it's not growing. The Mandalorian, certain parts just seemed like blatant regurgitated OT fan service. I'm not very nostalgic, so It doesn't work on me. Granted Mandalorian is getting better and is becoming more story focused, but is that what star wars has come to? Memberberries? It's not just Mandalorian, but the ST too, especially TFA, and TROS. I just want a good well thought out story.

And that is of course your prerogative - we are ALL entitled to like/dislike who we want.

I'm just profoundly glad on this forum we can do that without being harassed, bullied and in some cases have very nasty accusations made against us by those who do not agree.

I think you have to cut them some slack with Mandalorian. As much as the heavy concentration of crowd pleasing cameos toward the end of the last season began to concern me, I do have some sympathy for Lucasfilm in this area. They must be continually having to worry about walking into minefields regarding what the fans will permit. I'm kind of glad that most of the decisions, when you think about them, are totally credible on their own terms and they must have thought "Why shouldn't we just have Luke be the one who answers Grogu's call? Because some people might say it's just fan-service? So what?" Trying to pre-empt what most fans will say about these things is like trying to sweep leaves on a windy day. I'm happy that they are doing things

Even though Ahsoka, Fett and Skywalker's appearances in S2 were successful (mostly), fans are still divided about it. But in truth they are divided about each other's acceptance of them or otherwise. Some see those moments as the franchise "finally" giving what the fans want and should have been getting all the time While others see it as an admission that these things are needed to make up for the shortcomings of the whole franchise in the Disney era (not just Mandalorian) and that they are an acknowledgment of some kind of failure.

The truth is far less complicated than that. I think that the makers of Mandalorian are following their instincts the same way the makers of the ST were. And also, the supposed "fan service" aspects of S2 are definitely not the best or most important things about that show. Luke's appearance is nothing more than a cut scene at the end of an old RPG "It was me you've been questing for all along. And now you've found me. Well done."

You get these fake YouTube reaction videos of people crying when they saw Luke show up. What about when mando and baby yoda said goodbye? That almost got me TBH. No people cried seeing Luke and I'm like okay, Luke Skywalker in a Star Wars show, big deal. That's your takeaway?
I don't care who the story is about. Honestly I'm not really into mandalorians, but Filoni puts them everywhere. That's fine. I think with baby yoda gone we can now focus on mando and the conflict with Bo Katan in regards to the ownership of the darksaber.

The fact is, DLF made a very strong announcement that TROS marked the end of the Skywalker saga. Their decision, not the fans (annoying though some of us can be.) so, if they are going to keep having Luke and co. repeatedly popping up then why end the Skywalker saga at all if they think Mando needs to keep having cameos from them?

It was DLF who wanted the Skywalkers gone, they're gone so now they will have to create their new, non Skywalker characters, instead of falling back on Lucas's originals.

Come on DLF...show us how amazing your new characters are going to be.

I don't understand this at all. The saga is a timeline set of films. Luke exists in stories inside of the timeline. The end of the saga wasn't a statement that no stories would ever be told in that timeline. Obi-Wan is a bigger part of the saga than Kylo Ren/Rey/Finn. Calling the end of the Skywalker Saga is probably smart since people will move away from this bloodline thing. It's severely limiting to future stories when they continue with Rey/Finn/Poe.

It takes time to create a mythology around a character. Luke's been around for 40+ years, it's hard to compete with that. When Luke shows up he steals the spotlight. That's kind of a problem. Using fan service to introduce new characters is smart, like they did in TFA, but at some point they need to stand on their own.
I know I keep going back to Mandalorian but I think season 3, mando needs to develope and not have boba fett or luke or whomever stealing the spotlight.
Same with any of the new characters, they should be building their own mythology. And they are through various medias, and it'll take time.
I didn't watch TCW when it came out, because I was busy, but I'm sure Ahsoka wasn't immediately a success, like she is now.

I think Mandalorian actually does a really good job of keeping Din Djarin the dominant character amongst all the illustrious cameos. When he runs into Ahsoka, Boba and then Luke he's like "Who's this weirdo I have to deal with now?" And it's not all, "Gee, I'm glad you're here. I could sure use some of your help."

Yeah they're doing a good job. Like I said they're using fan service to introduce him. Getting Grogu where he belongs was his journey, along the way he needed help, and to also develop his character. His character is now developed and now he finds himself practically the leader of Mandalor. Season 3 shouldn't need fan service to make the story appealing. For me seasons 1-2.5 were agonizingly slow paced, but it should pay off next season.

Lol. Okay then it'll be the baby yoda show? I'm sorry but that's just funny lol. Maybe at the very end of season 4, maybe, but certainly not before then.

Whats ironic and funny is Hasbro made the RazorCrest as their Haslab and I ordered one. About tbe same time, the trailer for season 2 released. I knew the RazorCrest would "die" i just knew it and I called it, and everyone said, no that's not going to happen. Sure as $#!% smells they blew it up.

You should probably keep rumours like that to yourself or save them for a SPOILER thread on a Mandalorian fourm.

Oh...sugar. Sorry. But frankly I doubt very much if they'll do that, because the show is hugely popular and after the furore with the ST DLF aren't going to shoot themselves in the foot. Also, they have a South American actor in a leading role, which is great.

yeah, my nephew was super excited to get the Lego Razorcrest for his birthday and then the following Friday tuned into the show and watched the ship get destroyed on screen. there were tears.

...but, this convo would be better placed in one of the Mando threads rather than here ;)

Getting back on subject then. No. No the sequels didn't kill star wars. We're getting more star wars content than ever before, by a very wide margin.
But if you mean the episodic saga, maybe. If they make episode 10 it shouldn't be for at least 10 years. So it will be the trilogy for the next generation, like they've all pretty much been.

The ST killed the Skywalker saga. But SW will live on; it's a big universe and post TROS I am convinced that DLF's entire aim was to 'move beyond' the characters Lucas created, and go forward with their own.
This was why they dumped the EU, along with Jaina Solo and Ben Skywalker, instead replacing them with Ben Solo who they villainised then killed off. I'm pretty sure that even if Carrie had still been with us, they would have in all likelihood killed off Leia too.
They own the franchise now, so of course they call the shots. I don't honestly know if they will ever continue the stories of Rey and her Friends - they might in comic and book format, but it's still very much up in the air if any of the actors will return for live action.
There are as I've said rumours of a Finn spin off series but JB has apparently been cast in a major film set in Africa which starts shooting next year, so it depends on if he's willing AND has the time to do it.

Poe is featuring in a Halloween Lego special but it isn't Oscar providing the voice.

At present Disney appear to be focusing on the 'past'...such as Mando, the Bad Batch and novels such as Project Luminous, so it remains to be seen whether or not they will eventually tackle the post ST era, and whether it will feature Rey and Friends, their descendants, or someone completely new.

My love for and interest in, the franchise, is now gone but new characters will attract new fans and this is what I think Disney are as a company focusing on.
