Today I was thinking that the only thing that could top Vader massacre scene would be Vader killing the heroes of the movie.

Diego Luna says in several interviews how frightening was when Vader entered on-set, but Vader don't relate to Cassian in any way. It can be that he was just there when Vader scenes were filmed, but the way he talks about it, like "Vader entering on-set and looking at me" made me think there would be some on-camera interaction between both.

In the other hand you have the trailers, where we can see Jyn running out with Cassian handing the Death Star plans.

Therefore: Could it be that before the reshoots they scaped with the plans using some ship? And then, once in the corridor of the rebel ship they were killed among the rebel soldiers? Was that maybe "too much"?

I think having Vader confront the protagonists just creates too many new holes to fill.

I think Luna was just there for some Vader shoots...who wouldn't want to be....

I guess it could've been the case in earlier drafts, but I don't think it's a deleted scene or anything. Vader can't be everywhere at once, and there's no reason for him to go down to the planet when the ground is basically decimated, anyway.

No. Vader took a shuttle directly from his Star Destroyer and flew to the Rebel flagship. He didn't go to Scarif's surface, because Scarif has sand which is coarse, irritating and gets everywhere. Which is why he didn't go down to Tatooine either later....

Interesting thought. While I love the Vader scene in the movie, I had expected to see him kill some of the main characters, not just nameless rebel grunts. I think it would have been more impactful for him to have killed at least a couple of the main characters, like Jyn and Cassian.

It would have been interesting to see Vader kill Chirrut, the guy who loved the force, by using the force on him!

Yeah, I get that- that's how most movies would've done it.

But I think they handled this pretty intelligently. This was Krennic's fight, not Vader's. Vader and Tarkin just showed up in the end to clean up Krennic's mess- by then, most of the R1 crew is gone, so we get to see Vader and Tarkin much in the same light as the OT- Vader relentlessly hunting down the plans, and Tarkin wielding the Death Star with the self restraint of a kid in a candy store.
