As bitter as many people sound about this, I have to agree- it's unlikely that Rey will fail Luke.

Not because of some sort of issue with Rey's character, but because that would probably be a pretty disappointing ending.

I think it is quite subjective.

    Fail on what?

Let's rewind the tape a little bit...

Luke didn't follow Yoda's indications of continuing his training and not to go face Vader. Did he listen? No.

Yoda wanted Luke to confront Vader. When Luke told Obi-Wan he couldn't kill his father, Obi-Wan said: "Then the Emperor has already won."

Both masters - that trained Luke for a short period of time, if anything - wanted Luke to do something and he didn't do it. Did he fail them? From a certain point of view, yes he did. Did he achieve a bigger goal by following his feelings? Yes he did.

So coming back to Rey, when she faced Luke and decided to go looking for Ben, she actually failed him since he warned her "This is not going to go the way you think". But at the end of the day... who knows? Perhaps following her own path will lead her to achieve something bigger and actually bring balance to the Force again.

That's a good point. By going to Kylo, in a way she did fail him already then.
