Disinformation Campaign

I think you've hit the nail on the head. We've heard more than once that the "cyborg villain" concept is outdated. I'd say the art that depicts sets we know were used (like the Greenham Commons Hanger) are the only ones we can be certain are still relevant.

 

Actually, they have made an attempt and succeeded it appears IMO. I mentioned this in the concept art leak thread that you can no longer view the slideshow with the larger pictures and the imageshack page has been taken down. However, you can still see the small thumbs on the millenniumfalcon page, but for how long remains a mystery.

If i was part of the legal team at disney trying to keep a lid on ep7 spoilers.. i would be going after sites even if the leaked material was out of date or faked. i would show consistency else it becomes "if they come after us it's definately legit" and "if they don't come after us its useless crap". but thats just me. they have more money than sense and they simply wont risk this trilogy.. expect that thermal detonator to turn into a death star once filming wraps and actual "stills" start popping up as they undoubtedly will.

even then.. images get saved by everyone instantly these days. how they'll keep this under wraps for another year is beyond me lol

p.s. @ Disney: i have not saved any of these images on my computer, and i 100% do not have them copied onto a usb drive that's in my laptop bag.

 

Best bet. Some is real. Mixed with a lot of fake. The delay to take it down is very much intentional. To throw us off the scent, and make us believe clearly all of it is fake and/or based on outdated versions of the script.

Absolutely. This is one of the greatest disinformation campaigns ever perpetrated by a production company. Bravo to them, but I don't like it one iota.

The funny thing about it is that my experience watching a film (or TV show) when they premiere has never been ruined by knowing about them because of "spoilers" in advance. IMO the term "spoiler" is a complete misnomer and incredibly insulting to me for the insinuation they spoil a damn thing, they don't. A lot of the rational given by the creators of these projects for not wanting people to be "spoiled" is BS, they will get my money regardless, and they could be nice enough to do so with out irritating me with these disinformation campaigns.

 

I think it has less to do with trying to prevent any information being leaked, and more to do with creating intrigue.

The Mystery Box has won. Every single image we saw the other day could be 100% in the production but the MB has us conpletely skeptical of everything at this point.

 

If I was JJ I would have several people cut several trailers each designed to mislead as much as possible in different directions and air them in rotation and watch heads explode. Do the same with longer trailers later and no one would know what to expect in December. Make one look as if Luke is evil and one like we have the EU training academy and so on.

 

Do you honestly think, with as popular as StarWars7News and MakingStarWars are, that JJ doesn't have someone in here posting with us?

Exactly. Hell, even I have an account and I'm just a lump of excess flesh. But I do have good connections.

 

Just my two cents:

For all three prequel movies the scripts were leaked before shooting had even wrapped on the respective films, along with various designs and artwork.
And people said the exact same thing back then. The amount of people who refused to believe, and insisted it was all just misinformation, only to be left with egg on their faces...

In comparison, we actually know very little so far about TFA.

Hell - if anyone who was around back then remembers, Ewok Pudu pretty much dropped the whole ROTS storyline really early on in the production, but that stuff was still getting debated and doubted right up to release, even after Ternian started sharing whole passages from the novelisations in the final few months.
To be honest, if you look back, LucasFilm appeared to rule with an iron fist, but the reality was they were a whole lot more concerned with handing out C&D orders to anyone circulating their own Hyperspace and Behind The Helmet images. In other words, it was the act of theft (understandably) that really ground their gears - be it a top secret document or an image - there wasn't really a concentrated campaign to stop people discussing stuff once it was out there, just to stop people using their property. And there certainly was no attempt to misinform.

Apart from the odd teaser photo and a couple of videos, JJ and Disney have given us very little to go on - compare that to how much more comprehensive the coverage of the entire shooting process was on the official site back in the day (albeit at a price). I mean, we are talking about the official site here, giving away stuff like Padme being choked and Anakin being on the council, via that set-cam feature (I forget what it was called) they used to have...!
They probably think they are being as secretive as they ever are with these movies, and I think they can afford to live with some of the stuff that has leaked - like I said, we actually know a lot less than we have in the past at this stage. Look at JJ's tongue-in-cheek Tweet in response to the leaked Falcon pics, I'd say that pretty much sums up his attitude to this relationship with the audience in general...

 

Once all the under paid and poorly treated staff at ILM get their parts to work on, I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot more come out from someone who already has a bitter taste in their mouth.

 

Considering we don't even know the names of the new characters I think they've done a pretty amazing job at keeping a lid on things
