Well, whatever Iger and Kennedy come up with without George...it's better than the past 3 Star Wars films we got with George!

To me it seems obvious they are not completely disregarding the story treatments made by George, they will probably make a lot of modifications but not the main story behind it.
George keeps repeating his story was about the grandchildren and Disney took the story in another direction. This is clearly not the case, it is obvious from the many interviews that there is going to be at least one Skywalker among the new characters, the second trailer by itself should be enough evidence for this.
It wouldn't make any sense to disregard his story, that is one of the areas where George excels. While I like the prequels I know there are flawed in many ways but the main story/plot is definitely not one of them.

Not long now and our concerns and critiques can finally transcend the abstract and hypothetical!! :D

    Here's how I'm seeing things...

    Cons
    Pros

    Not following original storytellers vision.
Original storyteller may be low on good stories.
    New storytellers are very experienced.
    New storytellers understand the themes.
New storytellers can cherry pick original storytellers best ideas.

Original visionary director is not directing.
Original visionary director is not currently popular for direction.

    Breaking up is sad.
Good timing makes a break up good.

I took the the Lucas grandchildren line as hyping up TFA and not mean spirited toward it or JJ. I have not delved into the Lucas/Disney split tho.

It would have been nice to have Lucas around has a idea guy/storyboard/creature shop. -probably too big a step down for Lucas's pride.

Never feal sorry for a man who was handed a $4 BILLION check.

This is what I always suspected as I believe the divorce was more a power issue then a story issue with Lucas.

People forget that Lucas didn't turn in the script for Episode 3 til the first day of shooting. So I believe he had rough notes for the ST the same way he probably had rough notes for the PT, and it was just a matter of moving chess pieces. It sounds like Han Solo got a bigger role in JJ/Kasdan's version is one example of them deviating from Lucas, but they probably still stuck with the general story.

But then why would Lucas say they didn't use his ideas? All KK is saying /doing is tip toing around the claim of his saying his ideas were thrown out. She says it's a normal process in the evolution of a film but what I hear is a bunch of bs. She also says there was no script done just ideas but we know that that's not true. Arndt had already done a draft of the script but was asked change things really work it andhe told JJ he needed 18 months. Time they didn't have.

Out of curiosity, I would have liked to have seen what Lucas's general story for this film would have been.

I don't even know how Lucas would recognize that they didn't use his ideas? He said he didn't contact them, and Kennedy asked him if he wants to know something, he said no.

All he has to do is see the movie to know what was used and what wasn't...and he's apparently already seen the movie ...
