Haha, we can call out fake news as we see it regardless of who gets credit for making the phrase well-known.

So my takeaway from all that is maybe Kennedy/Marshall should be running things as an official partnership at the top of the LucasFilm pyramid, as opposed to Kennedy flying Solo...

Disney expects this movie to bomb, because a lot of people want it to bomb. Why? I don't know. I find this unwillingness to give this movie a chance because it had encountered some production problems with its directors rather hypocritical.

You sound like a very open-minded person . . . not. By the way, as far as I'm concerned, Ehrenreich is just as good as Driver. You can maintain your opinion all you want. Don't expect me to buy it. I'm not that easily suggestible . . . like many of the Star Wars fandom is now.

Wow, a story from screen geek... must be totally true. 100% accurate. Why bother with the film now?

The idea that a guy who was hired by the Coen brothers, two of the truly great writers/directors in Hollywood, can't act is ridiculous. Absurd. If he had a coach, it is probably because he was getting crap direction from the duo first hired. If your actors aren't delivering a performance, it is your fault, as the director. Your JOB is to get them to hit the highs.

I love how supposed "fans" of Star Wars are down on a Star Wars film which they've seen nothing of. I wasn't "excited" about a Han Solo film (thought they ought to do a film on the origins of the Jedi/Sith instead), but I'm always willing to give Star Wars a chance. That's what being a fan is about.

Fake news was created, as a term, by the left. Trump stole it and made it his own. Just FYI (and please don't respond that I'm some sort of Trump supporter, I don't even vote so lets not go there).

If Disney expects this movie to bomb, then why did they spend so much time making it then?

Sounds to me like it's just another article hoping the new SW will fail.

    In any case:

I would be surprised if it bombed... It faces however serious competition (Infinity War and Deadpool 2), so we shall see...

The good news is, DP2 and Han Solo don't have too much cross over in terms of fan viewing (R rated vs PG) so one will get families and such.
The bad news is, Infinity War looks poised to be a freight train running through early summer

Yeah, I'm not sure why Disney is choosing to run an Avengers movie and a Star Wars movie in the same month.

It's a risk, but I guess May could be a really good month for them if it pays off.

I mean, they can count me in. But I hate to think of the rivalry this might spark between Marvel and Star Wars fans. I enjoy liking things without having to pick a side.

I don't know what you mean.
Star Wars fans and Comic Book fans seem like such a well reasoned, easy going bunch that don't over react to anything....

    According to IMDB:

    Infinity War
is scheduled for a May 4, 2018 release date.

Solo is scheduled for a May 25, 2018 release date.

May the 4th (AKA "Star Wars Day") would have been my preferred date for Solo.

Solo could then have held "first place" for a couple of weeks, at least until Infinity War, which most people would accept as an easy box office dominator.

Infinity War could conceivably hold on to "first place" in the box office until Solo.

If Solo debuts and Infinity War still holds on, I'm sure some people will take that as a some sign of "weakness."

Probably best to accept now that Solo will probably not come in nearly as high as TFA or even TLJ.

My overall feeling as yet another Star Wars film approaches: NONE of this should really matter to true Star Wars fans. If the story is good, we can watch and rewatch it while caring little to nothing for actual box office tallies.

We simply cannot let the Internet of all places to decide our individual reactions.

Fans can and should reclaim their individualities and not need to look elsewhere for validation, in my opinion.

I know a good story when I encounter one, and I don't need review websites like Rotten Tomatoes, the New York Times, or Ain't It Cool News to confirm what I already know.

Ah, just the thought of my 2 favorite franchises (Star Wars and Marvel) being caught up in their fandoms' war with each other and flooding the internet with even more complaining than before!

Plus, with the Fox acquisition, they can triple dip with DP2 still within the same month... Quite bizarre cinematic times we're living in.

You have got to be kidding me.
Solo will not be compared to those movies since it won't even come close to those movies. The apt comparison is Rogue One. That is the benchmark they will measure this movie against.

I don't buy that Disney is expecting this to "bomb." It will bring in hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue. However, it quite likely will be the least profitable of the 4 Disney Star Wars movies.

    What?
Deadpool 2 is counter programming to Star Wars.
Hard R rating vs what is likely a solid PG. Star Wars vs Comic Books. Old vs New.

It's why Daddy's Home, The Revanent, Sing, Hidden Figures were able to hit success while a SW movie was in theaters.
    Counter programming

While I'm not excited for Solo at this moment, I really want Solo to be great and to make more money than TLJ, if only to prove people wrong.

You can't deny the steady rumors about the egg that is about to be laid. A quick google search can confirm that Hollywood press gossip believes that the film has all kinds of problems. Remember somehow this film also made Kasdan decide to not work with Disney again and walk away from the franchise. That's a huge loss, even as a story consultant for future projects.

So it smells terrible right now, just a stinker that they are just kinda praying Howard can solve with reshoots, edits and a lot of fan service moments and cameos.

Because, the moment I heard there were four OT cameos in the film and most were added after Howard took over, my heart sank even further. The "forgive the horrible script, here's three cool minutes of Vader added in as an apology", bit is, for me personally, not something I look for in a Star Wars film.

But reduced expectations is a useful business strategy too and Hollywood press can be manipulated with a nice lunch and a wink, so Disney just might know what they are doing here. And they can turn the page on trying to recreate Harrison Ford. Which really, from the start, was probably a bad idea.

In other words, we might get some cool moments out of this film. Some Ron Howard sculpted moments that tip their hat to the fans, wink a little and provide just enough laughs and wonder, that the bad film surrounding them goes less noticed.

Suddenly, a bad mistake makes just enough money to keep the brand's momentum sustained, there's just enough fan service to invite frequent re-watch numbers from loyal fans and suddenly, all eyes shift to what films are coming next.

And this summer, I expect some delightful and well-timed announcements in that regard.

Because Star Wars is bank at the box office right now, so expect more, more, more coming our way, regardless if this film is a turkey.

Comedy is all about timing. Great actors can do it. Also why comedians can typically pivot into heavier roles really well.

Just points made by everyone in the theatre industry I have ever know.

The best actors I have been around were incredibly brilliant at improv.

At this point, I think the first Han Solo trailer will be shown in theaters before the Han Solo movie starts.

The latest rumors suggest the Solo trailer will debut on Wednesday, January 24 ahead of Maze Runner: The Death Cure‘s theatrical premiere.
