huh. tell that to michael cimino (directed deer hunter, then career ended with heaven's gate), willard huyck (longtime george lucas collaborator who directed howard the duck....and never anything else), or some poor kid named jake lloyd who was destroyed (career-wise and mentally) by a certain film you may have heard of called Episode 1.

You must not be following the conversation terribly well. The post referred to "countless jobs being lost" which implies he is not talking about the highest levels of the movie production but rather all the regular joes and janes who do the art, FX, computer work, accounting, etc.

BTW, Jake Lloyd's career was "ruined" because he could not act, even relative to the low standard set for children. As for his personal troubles, I highly doubt E1's box office or critical reception was responsible for that so your strawman is a fail.

The Solo Trailer will be one of the most important ones in recent history.
If People dont dig it (Ehrenreich as Han in his first moments are the most important seconds ) the film could be in serious trouble.
On the other hand if the trailer is str8 up awesome the negative mentality could change into a positive one.

After the Rogue One marketing, I trust the process. The trailer footage was all but cutting room floor scrap and I loved that movie. They went through this shoot/reshoot process then and the outcome was one of the better Star Wars films as far as I am concerned. They have to earn my distrust with a bad film before I go that route.

For some reason I get an icky feeling in my stomach when I think of Solo.

Did anyone really want this movie?

Yes. Many of us didn't ask for it, but when we were told that we were getting it, we wanted it.

As long as there is no scene where he visits a fortune teller, who tells him "you will marry a princess, save the Galaxy, have a son with her, who will then kill you when you look like Harrison Ford", only for Han Solo to reply with -unfunny one liner involving disbelief or screwing destiny-. I'm guess I'm fine with it.

I have a feeling some of the specifics of that scenario definitely make it pretty unlikely. :p

Who cares? Do you really think that Lucasfilm or any other production company goes around asking the public whether a Han Solo movie should be made or not? Do you think a writer goes around asking the public whether a certain type of story should be written or not?

What is this recent penchant of the public to assume that it can dictate the creation of any work of art or any form of entertainment? I've been aware of this attitude ever since the Prequel films hit the movie theaters. It's one thing to accept or reject a work of art. It's another to assume that all of us can dictate the work of a filmmaker, musician, writer or any other kind of artist.

Personally, I am curious to see how this movie will turn out. I refuse to close my mind and assume that it will be lousy or refuse to see the movie for what is turning out to me to be a series of shallow reasons.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Definitely seems many feel like they are entitled to their own version of the story. You get what the artists gives, either you like or you don't. Either way, life carries on.

If the film delivers good and interesting exploration of Chewie's character I'll be a happy camper. Hope the film acknowledges that many of us really do love Chewie.

He was destroyed by the fans, not the movie.
