Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian: Making Season 2 Discussion Thread

I’m a little hesitant to watch the Season 2. The first “Gallery” season did not have quite as many enlightening “making of” things I was hoping for. Not to sound negative, it was mostly a round table discussion of the filmmakers patting themselves on the back and swapping funny stories and geeky Original Trilogy easter eggs. However, the episode about the Volume was superb and demonstrated how The Mandalorian is a game changer in special effects. I wanted to see more of that.
I also like the (second? Third?) episode where Dave Filoni does the mike drop with his 5-minute monologue about why the prequels, in fact, make sense to the overall saga, leaving everybody else speechless. Good stuff.

 

It was great to see the crew member doing the homage to Pink Shorts Boom Guy! Maybe he is a member of a splinter cult group, Children of the Pink Shorts Boom Guy...

 

Just checked it out and it's fantastic! I like the first season's style but this is much better and should continue with this for future seasons

 

No mention of Luke at all....interesting

 

That was weird. I think it was an outside company that produced the show? So I guess they were afraid of leaks.

 

Wow I loved the first Gallery. The Volume, the Score and may other episodes were great......

 

I rewatched this last night--there are a few scenes shown being filmed that we didn't see. One that I picked up on seemed pretty minor--just extras in the inn on Trask doing extras things. But there was also a scene of Greef Karga, presumably from chapter 14 "The Tragedy," meeting Boba Fett coming out of Slave I. So interesting! I really dislike that last scene with Cara because it seems like so much is missing there when Din comes back to Nevarro--and here is a piece that was almost certainly cut out.

How fascinating would it have been for the former(?) head of the Bounty Hunter's Guild to meet Boba Fett! Why didn't we get to see that? Are they saving it for the Book of Boba Fett or something? I want to knoooooooow!

 

I just happen to be rereading some Legends book right now and am on the one where Boba joined the Guild to basically destroy it from the inside. Interesting coincidence.

 

I haven't read much from Legends but it's been kind of fun to see what TPTB have been cherry-picking to bring into the new canon. This scenario or a similar one would be so cool.

 

I'm hoping we get to see Bossk, a Wookiee bounty hunter and whatever is left of Black Sun. /End random thought.

 

I almost could not get through this first episode, and it had nothing to do with the length.
It was the incessant tone of “geeking out” that put me off, with filmmakers focusing on (what I personally think) the least interesting aspects of the show:
1)practical effects
2) more practical effects
3) ralph Mcquarrie inspiration
4) directors talking about their memories of 1977

Don’t get me wrong. It was fun at first back when they hired all these superfans to make The Force Awakens. To some extent, it was also fun in the next couple following movies. But good lord, can we please talk more about the decision-making-process going into the stories? Or the revolutionary work that went into the Volume? Or...... Luke Skywalker?

I’m writing this half joking. But still, I would like more substance and variety in my Star Wars documentaries.

 

i was hanging out for the section on how they pulled off the Luke surprise but it never came. Hopefully there will be a stand-alone special or *something* like a deep dive on it.
