If beginners like Kylo Ren and Rey are able to use the force in this new impressive way, I'am asking myself what unbelievable stuff Luke can pull off?
Destroying a planet with his mind, getting women pregnant without touching them?

Before I earn some dislikes, this post is not meant to be serious.

Ok. I guess what i am saying is that the prequels present it as a blood / birthright alone.
Just saying disney may already be changing this ( in my admittedly minority view.)

The force can "choose" someone and "awaken them" to its powers.

I think disney is trying, subtly, to show us "possibility"...
    They named the movie TFA.

That's what i am getting at. Disney is showing kids that they could have the magic, too.
Yes, it is rare. Of course it is and will continue to be.
Nothing is more abhorrent than seeing a gazillion jedi fighting in a gladiator arena. Sorry - it is meant to be special and the "focus" of our main protagonist.
But the way TOWARD that power, disney will make sure it is not expressly prohibitive to youngsters' imaginations. Like the midichlorians explanation may have been for some.

I guess you're right and totally spot on with your post.
When Luke said in the TFA teaser "and you have that power too" I got the impression that he spoke to the audience.
If it's meant this way, genius marketing from Disney.

I disagree. It is not presented in prequels that it is a blood / birthright alone. Force sensitivity/ midichlorian count is just force potential. Someone who is force sensitive/ has high midichlorian count can never learn to use force.

Midichlorian count does not contradict with ''kids imagining that they could have the magic, too'' Kids can imagine that they have midichlorian count as high as they will, that they are strong in the force as they will, it does not matter.

As for ''gazillion jedi fighting in a gladiator arena'', that is in fact one of my favorite parts of AOTC.
Force sensitivity is rare. But there still can be thousands of force sensitive people in the Galaxy. Jedi are guardians of the Republic.

What we learned from OT alone:

    1. Force sensitivity is rare ( only small number of people in the Galaxy are force sensitive and have potential to use the force )
    2. Force sensitivity is hereditary

Yes. Of course the OT shows us that it is inherited.
Please know that i am not questioning canon.
I am merely posing a theory that, moving forward, the force may be heredity, as well as, erm, something else....
We will have to wait 18 months to see.
But, i for one, see myriad clues by the filmmakers and even the title of the movie, that it is moving beyond just heredity. That is all. Carry on.

The obvious plot that Rey is Luke's daughter is too obvious. Based on how Leia reacted to her when she arrived after Starkiller base was destroyed, it seems to me that she is Han and Leia's daughter. Either story arc would work. I agree with a previous poster that this trilogy will be to establish the Luke story. I find it hard to believe that Rey is not a Skywalker in some way. Leia does not react that way to some random female she has never met. She is either a mother or aunt. Star Wars is about the skywalker family that is why I believe she is either Luke's niece or daughter.

I will say this, it it turns out that she is not a skywalker, it opens up many cool possibilities. This idea that to be of the light side is to be a Jedi. But really all Jedi are is light side force users that adhere to a certain dogma. It is a monastic order, warrior monks. But, I am sure there are lightside users that are not Jedi. Ahsoka Tano is a good example of this, she is a light side force user but not a Jedi in the era of the Clone Wars and Rebels. Seems as if they are setting up a Knights of Ren, for the dark, they may be setting a very different looking "Jedi" order.

I suppose it's easy to change the gender in a galaxy far far away, but I guess Luke will not be happy about it.

Rey finds Luke at the ending scene and he is a she now, that would be a shocking twist and would explain his hiding.
Everyone knows and remembers "I'am your transgender father/mother" classic moment in his/her life.

Disney dropped the ball on this one, all the great possibilities they could have explored.
They could have destroyed our childhood in a magnificient epic way. :D

Gender is determinate by sex chromosomes.
Females have XX sex chromosomes, males XY.

Y chromosome is composed of about 59 million base pairs. That is alot of genes.

To create a female out of male, you need to replace Y sex chromosome with X. So you need to remove 59 million base pairs. End result is not a clone anymore, but completely different person, with different genes.

Clones are 100% copy of the original.

Males and females are genetically 1.8% different.

STAR WARS, everything is possible in a galaxy far far away. (Jar Jar is a key to all this)

A cloned Luke with a gender change, let's hear what George Lucas and Steven Spielberg think about it:

C'mon guys you KNOW Rey is Luke's daughter.

    1) It's a Skywalker legacy. The most obvious through line connecting characters and being repeated in a slightly different way within the Hero's Journey.

    2) Just look at how Han and Leia behave around her. With Han it's like he's thinking: "Oh blast I think I know who this girl is, I'll leave it to Luke to break it to her." and Leia hugs her at the end after meeting her for the first time? Ok maybe she's saying thanks for helping us but theres more there. Oh and Leia walks right past Chewie like some homeless dog, wtf lol. I can't wait to edit that and paste the scene of them hugging from earlier. Anyway Leia sends Rey to go by herself to bring the lightsaber to Luke. Hmmm. Leia knows who she is.

    3) It's a movie made for CHILDREN and families. Keep it simple. If Rey isn't related to anyone we know, now we gotta answer more q's & blast get's complex.

    4) Why would they just nonchalantly reveal Kylo's lineage and so early? Because 2 big reveals would be too much even if the 2nd gets revealed in VIII. Rey's lineage is the big surprise as will Snoke's history be.

    5) Luke's lightsaber chose her. All the coincidences in all 7 films are usually because of the will of the Force, guiding paths in a specific direction. Even the trailer with Luke's voice saying "You have that power too." and Rey is the next thing they show: is another dead giveaway.

I know I'm in the minority but I am of the opinion that Rey has never been trained before.

The supposed timeline just does not add up to me. Rey has been on Jakku for about 14 years. Pablo Hidalgo tweeted that the fall of the "academy" happened more recently then that. If that is the case and Rey was being trained then she would have been dropped off on Jakku before the academy fell. I guess there could be a reason for that but the storylines would be getting very convoluted at that point

I am also in the minority that I feel like Rey is not related. However, the story has been set up that it could go either way. I'm interested to see how this all turns out.

I really like this idea. At first I wanted to know who her family was and hoped it wasn't Luke. Then someone pointed out to my how much more complicated and muddy the story might become. That makes sense to me. I like the fact that she is a "no one" as well. There can be a connection to Luke without him being her father. Plus, it all seems to easy to make Rey Luke's daughter and too obvious in the movies. I don't see JJ Abrams doing that.

I think Maz mentions her "family" is not coming back, and could be referring to her possible older brother Kylo. Maybe Kylo at that time, wasn't fully engulfed in the Dark Side, and saves Rey. Interesting enough I did see Rey using light saber techniques, like Obi wan did in Episode III.
