The title may seem a bit confusing. I thought I would start off on discussing the things that most people do not believe in. Such as like aliens, ghosts, bigfoot, the kraken, the loch ness monster, etc.

What do you think? Do you think such creatures truly exist or that they are just legends?

I'm an open minded skeptic. I like to think that those things could exist. I mean, I've heard mysterious noises in the woods and seen strange lights in the sky, but I'm also open to more boring (scientifically accepted) explanations for them. However, I'm inclined to believe that we don't know everything about the world yet. ;)

I voted aliens because, while I'm a skeptic, I also accept the mathematical probability of other lifeforms in our universe...

Aliens exist somewhere. It's just a matter of whether or not we'll find them in this big Universe of ours... if ever.

I like to imagine that ghosts are real to some extent, but think everything else on the list is malarkey, so I voted "other".

I believe in the existence of extraterrestrial life. It’s a statistical improbability for there not to be. I don’t believe grey slender men are abducting people and shoving things up their butts though . . . well, not alien ones anyway.

I wanted to vote ghosts and aliens, but it would only allow one. The possibility of some kind of life form outside our solar system is quite possible if the right conditions are there. They may not be aliens or lifeforms we know, or be just one celled, or some kind of planet like thing. Ghosts, well, the idea of souls living on, or memories of the living, well odd things have happened, and people feel things.

I thought we were going to be discussing the idea of "The Upside Down" on our planet! :D

I voted All of the Above. There certainly are plenty of "strange things" that happen on our little rock here. I suppose it's going to take a true eye witness account for me to really call myself a believer in something like Sasquatch, but for now I want to believe that thousands of people aren't crazy and have seen something they can't explain. Krakens? Sure, the ocean is vast and largely unexplored. Nessie... well, this one I'm most skeptic of, but hey anything is possible. And aliens, yes. Somewhere. How else did those pyramids get built?!?

    ALIENS EXIST !!!

    1. Considering an "Alien" as any life form not developed on planet Earth. Life forms could be Simple (unicelular), Complex (animals like mammals and birds) or Evolved (sapient being like the humans).
    2. Considering our Galaxy has Billions of Stars and all Star systems we know have at least a couple of Planets, that means our own Galaxy has Billions of Billions of Planets and not forgetting the Visible Universe has Billions of Billions of Billions of Billions of Billions of Billions of Galaxies with their Stars and their Planets, we are talking about one abismal number of planets capable of conceiving life.
    3. Considering life could develop not only in PLanets but also on the Planet Moons and on the Dwarf Planets, the available birthplace of life grows beyond comparisson.
    4. Not considering Rogue PLanets, Planets outside any Star System like Starkiller, because they are deep frozen despite representing 1/3 of all Planets in the Universe neither consider Asteroids and Comets despite simple life and organic compounds could develop in them.
    5. Looking at our own Star System, we know 1 out of 8 Planets have all kinds of life, but 2 more Planets can develop life conditions and in the +100 Moons in the Solar System at least 12 can or may have life. If we apply these proportions to the Universe, the number of Planets and Moons developing life goes over the roof, actually if only 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001% of the PLanets in the Universe develop life there would be life everywhere across the universe.
    6. One other aspect nobody considers is that life can exist on Space, free and open Space. The only things any lifeform need to develop is Energy, since living is just converting energy from one state to the other and the stars provide huge amounts of energy - any life form could exist feeding only on a star energy; and some kind of Radiation protection, despite plenty of lifeform are radiation resistents, the levels of Star Radiation and the Beta Radiation are huge but the planets have super radiation shields - the magnetic shields, turning ok to any lifeform to exist on space inside their magnetic shields. Actually several simple lifeforms CAN life in space, like Salmonella and even complex ones like Tardigrades.

Therefore, Aliens are Everywhere, even in our own Solar System.

Certainly. To borrow a common yardstick: there are more stars in our universe than there are grains of sand on all the beaches of our world. That’s an unfathomably huge number. Factor in extremophiles, lifeforms that thrive in the most inconceivably harsh environments imaginable, and it’s not an intellectual question of ‘maybe’. It’s a mathematical certainty.

That’s not exactly the same thing as hyper-intelligent saucer people placing circles in our crops though. I reckon that's more the idea.

    Good Point!

And now checking the existence of Aliens in our own Planet?

    1. Interstellar Travel, moving between diferent star systems, is IMPOSSIBLE (as we know it). For any interstellar travel you need to answer succefully all my questions about it: (i let this questions out awhile ago and no one has ever fully answered them)

    - How to navigate to a VERY distant and VERY fast moving target? (Alpha Centauri is Earth's closest star and is 4.24 Ligth Years or 93 Millions Miles away, and it's moving very fast thru space in speeds close to bullet speeds)
    - Which Energy will feed the Spaceship for the Travel, how that energy would be generated and stored? (we would need HUUUUGE amounts of energy, the more energy we stock the bigger the ship we need and even more energy will be needed, best energy for the job is higly radioactive thus killing all crew)
    - How to provide Life Support, Air and Food, for the crew over the journey? How to eliminate the life Residuals? (again, it's a monstrous ride and the more cargo you get the more energy you will need, Space Cargo is determined to the micrograms)
    - How to protect the Crew from the Star and Space Radiations? (we're talking about basic protection, off course nothing can stop a Beta Burst, a Magnator, A Black Hole, an Asteroid or even a rogue planet. Just consider that NEVER a living being as stepped out the Earth Magnetosfere)
    - How to approach a Planet? (think that the big ship required for the trip will crush any planet it approches with their tidal effect)
    - How to comunicate with an Alien Species? (the mankind can't understand any other "talking" species on planet Earth, like Dolphins and Crows, how can we understand an alien species that must likely will comunicate either verbally or visually)
    - How to survive in an Alien Environment? (well the alien bacteria and virus would annihilate must attempts to colonize outer planets but consider the wild array of climates, predators and aliments)

    2. Side notes on Space Travel

    - Hiperspace/Warp drive is IMPOSSIBLE, ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE, no living being or material can endure the pressure and the heat generated by such speeds (simple experiment YOU SHOULD'T DO EVER, sit in you car with open door and place your hand on the road outside the car, now accelerate as fast as you can and leave your hand on the road - you will loose your hand way before the 60 m/h)
    - Wormholes are ridiculous (anything that gets past the event horizont on a black hole get shredded apart into Hidrogen Atoms)
    - Star Travel would take MIIIIILLLLLLIIIIOOONSS of Years (if we sent our best spaceship in the firs day of Planet Earth in destination to the closest Star today, 4.5 Billion Years, it hadn't reach half the voyage)

    3. Conclusions

    - I believe Prof Kaku theory about the "Seed Ships" migth be the only way of Interstellar Travel (send plenty of very little ships with human embrions stasis across the galaxy and some migth survive the travel and descend upon a friendly planet after trillion of years)
    - Any kind of Alien species visiting Earth must be from our own Star System, but that would require an Evolved Intelligent Species and we haven't found any trace of those in our proximity so far (at least the Radio sounds of that things would be perfectly clear)
    - An Evolved Alien Specie coming from the Solar System could came from:
    - Venus - our twin brother died way before any life could develop on Earth and it's current super dense state makes impossible the evolved life forms
    - Mars - the red planet has no Atmosfere or Magnetosfere
    - Jupiter Moons - while might be life on Io, Europa, Ganimedes and Callisto NO evolved life could come from mainly aquatic worlds
    - Titã - besides Earth it's the only place in Solar system with Atmosfere, Rain, Lakes, and it get's protected by Saturn huge magnetosfere
(the only problem is that Titã is -180ºC but we have extreme environments life on Earth so it might be doable)
    - The existence of water is never a problem, because Hidrogen is the must common substance in the Universe, and for example in our Solar System we have presence of water in any of it's forms in every single Planet, Comets and in almost all of the asteroids.

To conclude all this topic, the main question should be: There were Aliens on Planet Earth in contact to Mankind?

The answer is very simple and it should be .... NO, simply because:

    - Absolutely no PROOF or EVIDENCE of any kind has been found, we know of nothing on Planet Earth build beyond our Planet, every single construction erected on Planet Earth is absolutely doable by humans with the skills they had at the time.
    - Human evolution shows NO JUMPS outside our own techniques and believes, every single human development, technological and ideological, are the direct evolution of the ones before those.

I think that’s why the topic is worded as a matter of ‘belief’ rather than what can be empirically proven. Believing in ‘aliens’ is about as much a leap of faith as believing in ‘ghosts’. Do you still believe despite the lack of evidence? I feel that’s the question.

As an aside: would beings that exist within dimensional space beyond our perception count as “aliens”? Would they count as “ghosts”? Hmm, food for thought.

It's not always easy to believe in something that's got support for AND against it.

    Concerning aliens:
The Dogon (dough-Gon) tribe in Africa. Primitive & isolated they have a "belief."

"The Importance of the Dogon hit the western world in 1930 when French anthropologists first heard legends from the Dogon priests. The legends were passed down through many generations and documented through artwork. The Dogon spoke of an extraterrestrial race from the Sirius Star System, referred to as the Nommos, who visited them on earth. The Nommos were an aquatic race of humanoid creatures, similar to mermaids. This was amazing to hear because the god, Isis, of Babylon is depicted as a mermaid and associated with Sirius. The Dogon say that the Nommos descended to earth from the heavens in a great boat, accompanied with extreme wind and loud noise. The Dogon explained that the Sirius system had a companion star, but it cannot be seen from earth due to the brightness of Sirius A. Researchers have found Dogon artifacts dating back over 400 years depicting orbits of these stars.

Years later, in 1970, astronomers finally had good enough telescopes to zoom in on Sirius and they photographed Sirius B. The Dogon were right! They also identified the moons of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn without the use of a telescope. How could they know this?"

    http://www.catalyzingchange.org/dogon-tribe-africa-extraterrestrial-history/

It's fun to wonder. This world is boring without mystery.

I might have voted for aliens, but as others have pointed out the key is aliens "on Earth."

So that's an emphatic "no" from me, along with all the others. The capacity of the human brain to make connections is astounding, and really pretty special. It can also lead us down the wrong path from time to time. It's why the scientific method is so important. And while we're only scratching the surface of all that we could know and open-mindedness is a virtue, leaping towards easy solutions is not a viable method of navigating the mysteries of our world.

    Just my two cents.

I've had a few strange experiences with what I perceived as ghosts that cannot be explained. I know what I seen and experienced. I wasn't dreaming, stressed, on drugs, so...I don't know.

As for Aliens, Bigfoot, etc on the list I've not encountered anything, but who knows, they may exist.
