SPECULATION Do you guys thing Rex will ever meet with Vader in canon? If so, how could they make this happen?

if rex is that guy in rotj, he would have no armor, maybe he had a reason. Maybe he learned about anakin and felt shame in the 501st

Hmm...

Basically, I see there being a few time periods here.

Before Rebels- As you mention, his neglect to tell Ahsoka is odd. Unless he didn't realize it was Anakin- that's a slight possibility.

During Rebels- Seems unlikely. He never mentions such a confrontation, and that'd be a pretty big deal.

Between Rebels and A New Hope- I just feel like this is unlikely. The end of Rebels makes me think that the team spent some time on Lothal, perhaps until even after the DSI was destroyed. And given how the "Attack never came", I doubt Vader would be there.

A New Hope- Very unlikely, unless they want to Tagge & Bink the thing

Between a New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back- My main hesitation here is that this time period has gotten pretty busy already- including Vader even having his own comic series. I don't buy it.

The Empire Strikes Back- Again, would be pretty Tagge & Bink

Between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi- This seems the most likely to me. We're just now finally really exploring this era in canon, so a Rex and Vader encounter could totally be on the table.

Return of the Jedi- Seems like more Tagge and Bink silliness at first, but out of the OT films this would make the most sense. They were both at Endor, and even though Vader wasn't on the surface for long it's possible Rex was part of a forward team and maybe caught a glimpse of Vader as Luke surrendered to him. It's possible he even helped escort Luke there. Not likely, and a little silly- but I don't hate it.

Post Return of the Jedi- Not likely, Vader is extra crispy by then- more so than usual.

 

I really doubt it. As @cawatrooper laid out, there aren’t really a lot of opportunities for Rex to encounter Vader/Anakin in the timeline.

Narratively, I don’t think that it’d really work. We’ve already had enough of Vader encountering people from his past already (Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, Sabe and the Amidalans, Threepio, etc.)

While Anakin and Rex were very close, I don’t think it was ever on in an intimate level so a meeting between Vader and Rex wouldn’t have as interesting of an emotional conflict as Vader encountering any of the examples I listed (His former master and best friend, his former apprentice and figurative sister, a woman and group that are living reminders of his dead wife, and the droid he built as a child and probably reminds him of his mother.)

Seeing Rex find out and coming to terms with Anakin’s fate without ever directly coming into contact with him and having a forced encounter could be cool, but still unnecessary I think.

 

I think if something happened between the two, it would be rex who is emotionally hurt. if he ever questions what happened to Anakin during order 66, he might be shown a fake death security recording or told one, so he would believe Anakin is dead, and rex would probably be the one emotionally hurt. again all speculation, but i would love to see what rex thinks happened to Anakin.

 

Wow! Great thread. I mean, we got Ashoka and Vader meet up. But i just don’t think Rex and Anakin had a significant enough connection for it to matter weather or not they would see each other. I mean, Rex was very important to Anakin. For sure. But the reason we got Ashoka and Vader to meet in Rebels because, with the force, they almost had this kind of spiritual connection. The force is a spiritual thing. If we do see rex and Vader, i doubt words will be said if you ask me. Maybe a glance or something so that the animators/directors of this cannon film or show know we saw that, but to be fair, I don’t think we will see this. Im all for it though!

Yeah. But maybe a small interaction. So the people making the show or movie know we saw it. Just might add to an overall emotional affect. But you are right, in a 1v1 or something like that, Rex would die. Also, is it really cannon that Rex is at Endor? I thought that was just speculation. Also, Rex could be part of a group of people who face vader where they achieve some sort of victory without killing Vader of course.

i honestly hoped that in rebels rex would see Vader when Ezra and Kanan were fighting Vader at some point, and have Vader hesitate but keep fighting, but since rebels are over the next chance would be for rex to team up with bad batch against Vader, which brings me to this; who would win, Vader vs bad batch + rex (not canon just in a fight in general)

 

Thats a good question. Is it possible for a draw to occur. Vader is really powerful, especially at the time when Bad Batch will take place. But I think for the show, the screen writers might not want our main characters to lose. So, i’d imagine if there was this encounter, Rex and Vader would see each other and whatnot. Vader would possibly kill one of the members of the Bad Batch. Rex would survive. And maybe these protagonist would gain some kind of strategic advantage or something in turn. Just a speculation but it could play out.

 

ignoring the writer's plans and stuff and just doing a straight-out fight with no opinion on how that affects canon, I would say bad batch + rex might win. if its bad batch + rex + Ahsoka, they would def win, but I'm not sure if Ahsoka will be in bad batch, honestly, I'm hoping for a fulcrum mention, but not an appearance. i think some people a being Ahsoka overloaded, and its making them like her less, personally, i think this is a fine amount of her and im not get overloaded. though i do see what people are talking about, she is showing up alot lately

 

I appreciate and enjoy seeing the character meetings that have taken place so far but this is not something I find myself wishing for.
