I'm not sure if this thread has already been created (I honestly didn't bother to check) but I had a case of premature nostalgia if that's a thing. I was thinking back on the build up to Force Awakens and the teasers, trailer and TV spots that led up to the release and was wondering if anyone else missed the "hype" and anticipation of the newest Star Wars movie. I know we're getting the standalones and Episode 8 within 2 years, but it's not going to be the same as it was with The Force Awakens. The excitement, the wait, the hype, the uncertainty, added so much to the experience IMO. Does anyone else miss the hype of the The Force Awakens??

the days after my first viewing I did,and became depressed about the whole thing,I think it was from spending nearly a whole year on this site and in the cantina just reading so much information and speculation, your right,it won't be the same for any of the trilogy or spinoffs.the hype was awesome, one thing for sure I'll never forget that year, and the feeling I had during the First few opening scenes, the movie didn't disappoint.when Kylo caught the blaster bolt with the force I was blown away and glued to the screen.looking back now,the cantina enhanced my experience greatly and for that I will owe you all a gratitude forever.bring on the hype, bring on more Star Wars, long live the Cantina

Definitely. No matter what happens the next few years, we'll never again see the same level of simultaneous anticipation and uncertainty. At least not until we have another decade plus break between films.

There will be hype for upcoming movies, but it will be muted in comparison. It won't be in the news for months. You won't have casual fans chiming in weeks before release speculating on what we'll see. The chatter will build in fall, and it will be exciting around here in fan circles. But it won't likely take over the world again. That has its positives and negatives of course. All that hype last fall sometimes was stressful for the hard core fans. But I will miss it.

This fall should be an odd experience. There's a new Star Wars movie coming out. But for the first time, its not part of the main saga. There will be a bit of fatigue from casual fans who were inundated with Star Wars marketing for 4-5 months, plus the confusion of why we are jumping around in the timeline. My guess is the build up and hype will feel closer to that of a typical summer blockbuster, or smaller event movie. But we'll see.

TFA was not a movie... it was an Event... a worldwide phenomenon, that we all got to be part of. I went to see the movie on the evening before openeing day. It was just incredible to have been apart of it.

This tv spot summed up the energry and anticipation perfectly. It will be difficult to match all this hype again in 2 years.

I certainly miss it...I will never forget seeing the tickets on sale tv spot in October which was he very night I joined this forum and sped to my local AMC to purchase my ticket (lol)...this is definitely a once-in-generation experience just like ANH a& TPM until a new trilogy comes along eventually...TFA broke so many records and it was well worth the wait but unless LFL/Disney has something up their sleeves I doubt they'll be able to match this hype for us again (I hope they do/can) :)

    I knew I wasn't the only one!

I will say.. The hype of STAR WARS won't ever die out, fatigue might set in, but the hype is here to stay and I'm going to be on that train for every movie. It just won't be the same.. and while it might be sad in a way when you think about it, atleast we were apart of it and that's my main takeaway from the experience. I do believe that they could market the crap out of Luke and give us another "Wait is over" type of anticipation considering we FINALLY get to see Luke in action and get the involvement we thought we were getting in TFA, and put him all over the teasers and trailers.. They MIGHT be able to get close to the hype of TFA but I agree with you all, it won't surpass it because of the circumstances and timing... my question to you all though, does the spinoffs "hurt" or effect it in any way?

I agree with what the other people are saying here. I don't think the next few movies will have the same mass of anticipation for many factors, most of which since this was the first one after the prequels. Now that a good movie has been released everyone can breathe a bit easier we didn't get another "I hate sand." Rogue One and Episode 8 hype is only just beginning, with no Rogue One trailers and only a few shooting dates to talk about with 8, all of the hype is still lead off from 7 in a "I wonder what will happen because blank happened." Once we get closer to release and trailers drop I'm sure another wave of "Star Wars is back guys!" will come over us.

Well, for me at least im still waiting for that special new fresh Star Wars movie to happen. The one that goes out on its own merits and gives us something unique for the Star Wars movies collection. It might not happen, but it could. Thats what i'd be the most hyped for.

That would be pretty cool but the issue with that is that SW will always have the core characters such as Skywalkers, threepio/artoo, & WAR although there could be all original stories with them involved or their essence involved so point being that R1 could be the most we'd get from the type of film that you're looking for .

i completely missed the hype the first time around (in spite of being at ComicCon 2015 and out shopping all day Force Friday ~ for other stuff).

i just completely blocked it all out (i seriously blame it on the PT PTSD).

i vaguely recall looking at the toys on Force Friday and thinking the stormtroopers looked really awesome ~ and wrinkling my nose in disgust at the Vaderesque villain in the little black dress. and later i saw the first teaser trailer and that sorta piqued my interest because i liked Finn and the fact that nothing looked glossy or overdone. but i avoided the other trailers after that.

now i'm just enjoying the afterglow and the ramp-up to 2017.

Me, too- I blocked it all out. Ok, I watched the trailers over and over again but I went to the cinema without knowing anything, I thought it would be more fun that way... Little did I know :D I' m so glad I joined the Cantina!

i can't say that i miss the hype, no. it's not that i hate the hype, but, how to put this. it's like, i'm a Jedi- humor me. i'm a jedi, and star wars is like, sacred ground to me. the movies are each like, sacred ornaments, with various jewels and craftings.

so i live on these, temple grounds; with some others. we tend the grounds, and that stuff. now, every ten years there is "the hype" ; a big event that draws thousands and thousands of people from all over the world come and visit the temple. and i tell you, it's truly great to see new faces that come, and walk the quad, and view the sacred ornaments.

but then, there's the other crowd. they come walking through the place, making a loud scene acting like, kylo ren off his meds. they tend to have this need to hide behind a mask, and be the 'darth vader' that really, they're not nor ever could be. they litter and throw beer cans in the bushes. they go into the temple and loudly talk about how cheap and stupid the sacred ornaments are, they loudly mock the temple's, pointing out the "flaws of the architect" and loudly bragging about how they could've built it more precise, even though from the looks of them they'd not recognize a t-square. they offend the pleasant visitors, and they mock the female jedi. their presence on the temple grounds is, unpleasant to say the least.

after it's all over it takes a while to clean the place up. sometimes glass has to be replaced. sometimes graffiti has to be cleaned off of the west wing. thankfully none of them have attempted to actually destroy one of the ornaments yet.

and that's why, i don't really miss the hype.

The hype will stays always in my memory, in my mind, imposible to erase. If I close my eyes and start to thinking back to 1998 when I first saw the teaser of TPM in that "comming atractions" show on E!, I can sense all that hype again, surprise, shock and a good feeling comming trouhgt, good times. Same happened with TFA but in a small level.

While I enjoyed the hype, it also came with a lot of trepidation. It was both stressful and exciting at the same time. Now that TFA is behind us and we know that it was good, I think we can look forward to the new films with more optimism. For that reason I'm glad the hype is behind us, but it was still fun to share in it with all the other fans.

I'll miss the hype but I won't miss the excruciatingly long wait. There was so much downtime waiting for any shred of footage or news that it was starting to become more frustrating than exciting.

What I'll really miss is my first viewing of the film at the 7:00 premiere. The film itself was great and the crowd was lively and enthusiastic. It was the best movie-going experience I've had.
The period of "discovering" the score on album was great too (despite the negative reception and my own relatively disappointed first impression in-film). It really needed to played on its own on full blast to be truly appreciated.

I'll be honest, I never got to fully enjoy the hype of TFA because I was so worried that it was going to turn out to be the Prequels again and we were just going to be let down. But I ended up loving TFA, and now look forward to enjoying the hype of Episode 8 & 9 knowing now that my reservations about this trilogy are gone. Instead of focusing on the negatives like I did all through 2014-15 (Will I like the new cast? Will the OT cast members come off well on screen? Will BB-8 be another Jar Jar Binks? Can Disney pull it off?), I can now just enjoy the hype.

I love that I can talk about the movies again in a positive way for the first time since 1983, and when the first trailer for Episode 8 hits, I will now fully absorb the hype knowing this train is the right path now.
