Do you think a 6h cut of TPM exist ?

The first act of ROTS being over an hour? With the deleted scenes we have, plus the novelization by Matthew Stover, I fully believe that. The Chancellor rescue literally takes up the first third of the book.

As for The Phantom Menace, I can't imagine what could make it six hours long, but hey! I'm all for extended versions of movies!

Where is that quote from? Based on the published script as well as the novel and comic book adaptations (which typically showcase some variations based off of deleted concepts), there certainly isn't any evidence that a 6-hour cut (at least one that isn't just extended scenes--which doesn't sound particularly "awesome") could exist...

 

The Podracing 500, Anakin and all of the participants go around the Track 200 times like a true Indy/Nascar race. Lucas knew to delete the other 197 laps as the Nascar/Indy demo is very small among SW fans.

 

Honestly, out of the complaints people have for TPM, I don't think length is something that can really address them.

Maybe some good stuff was left out (I'd be down for more Maul) but I think little could be done for other scenes to somehow retroactively change what so many already disliked about the film. But maybe I'm wrong.

 

I'm pretty sure McCallum addressed this in one of the SW Insiders leading up to ROTS probably around late 2004 when Lucas was cutting the movie. He took out of the Rebellion Scenes with Padme as that could have been 15-20 minutes, and you're probably right that the first act was probably longer too. I would assume the Anakin/Obiwan Mustafar fight was probably longer as they cut some parts out of that. That stuff all adds up as I could easily see them having a 4 hour cut to begin with, but a 6 hour TPM cut? Wow, that's a lot to leave on the cutting floor!

 

Agreed. If that is true, we could definitely use those editors in Hollywood now- say what you want about TPM, but it at least felt complete.

 

Warner Bros just released a 188 minute version Superman 1978 adding in 45 minutes of extra footage on Bluray. I think they could do this with any big budget movie as I’m sure they could craft a 3 hour version of TPM, AOTC and ROTS each.

 

Why don't you do this to all of the SIX FILMS that Lucas had made? Oh that's right. We're supposed to pretend that the Original Trilogy was perfect or near perfect . . . even when they weren't.

 

I’m not sure you understood my post as I think the PT had a more grand story, so a longer cut of the films would be interesting. The whole formation of the Republic with Padme and Bail Organa are really good deleted scenes taken out of ROTS.

The OT films are a more straightforward story and I don’t know if a longer cut of each film would be that interesting (except maybe at the beginning of ANH with a handful of Deleted Scenes with Young Luke).

So next time you fly off the handle thinking I was bashing the PT, realize I was actually complimenting it because it’s a more in-depth story then the OT, so more added scenes would be a nice addition.

 

That would be awesome but the only issue I would have, the extended cuts considered to be the canon or the theatrical release that we got would still be canon?

 

I heard about that rumor for ROTS too...I doubt the 6 hour cut would be easily available now considering it would probably be on physical back up VHs...similiarly, to recreate Jar Jar for the subsequent movies, even though he was barely in them, ILM had to recreate him from scratch instead of from back up files due to them using digital technology.

 

oh it definitely exists. George Lucas is probably the only person who has it. Lucas has all the cuts.

The 6 hour cut would deff be just a thing for hardcore prequel fans. It'd be fun to watch, even though many scenes in them would not technically be canon. And I say that because no way will a 6 hour TPM ever be made canon
