No. I for one am a fan of the movies, flawed as they are.Star Wars may on day be the only franchise not to have remakes, seeing how Disney also extremely cherishes and his working on further restoring the older movies. The prequels gave use TCW, one of the best animated TV shows of all time, and I would not want to see it changed because of the movies. I would like more Maul, but with how well done his comeback was in TCW, I am pleased and still re-watch the movies, just as much as the originals. I'm a fan of them, simple as that, and I don't appreciated many remakes. Even the new Star Trek was more of a amazing reboot than anything.

as much as i would like it, it won't happen.. not until after lucas' death anyway (which hopefully won't be for decades)

it would be too much of an insult to him.

I'd certainly enjoy a fan-made reimagining of the PT, a la Belated Media revisions, but "rebooting" them officially would just be ... weird. And dumb. And would require rebooting everything made since RotJ. No dice.

But I'd definitely watch a Kickstarter version based on the Belated plots. That'd be cool.

No, no re-makes. I think GL has protected that somehow.

But what do you, the cantina, think about the Anti Cheese edits Kristian Harloff of Jedi Council is so fond of? TPM is very fast paced, only like an hour and a half but in my opinion there are some cuts that are not that great. You can tell something is missing.

Start with Empire of the hand which is the prequel to his End of all Light Trilogy his best work which starts with Age of Heroes, its a completely different story of the time period that Legacy of the Force takes place in.

In my case, I would too rather it happen in another way, maybe in completely different or something similar with better storyline and dialogue. I, myself, have also have an AU for the prequels; also what I've seen from Belated Media (or similar fans) showed me how much better the prequels could be.

But, I consider remakes to be disrespectful against the originals. I don't say they are great, there are so many things I have problems with; but I just don't think Disney would do such a critical move. Sure, they seem to ignore half of the franchise and go promoting 90% of their time with original trilogy but remaking the prequel trilogy? No.

I would say a thousand times yes. It could have easily been the best part of the saga. That said... I can see how it might have disastrous results. A lot of kids grew up loving the PT... and this could really hurt their feelings towards the franchise. As much as I may disagree with them I'd hate to see them turned away from it. Hopefully TFA will be a uniting factor and we can all look towards the future together.

I'll always lament what could have been though.

Do we know if Disney can even remake these movies? Was it a part of the deal?

Who knows what the terms of Disney's takeover were but I don't think they need to fix the past, leave it in the past.

Legally, they can do whatever they want - their only restriction is that Twentieth Century Fox owns the distribution rights to A New Hope in perpetuity unless a deal is made, which will get in the way of making box sets for the complete saga. If Disney were to authorize a shot-for-shot remake of ANH, that movie would be theirs. But of course, they won't be doing that because it would be a waste of resources - the same kind of a waste that a remake of the PT would be.
