SPECULATION Do you think Obi-Wan will be mentioned in R1?

No but I was asking myself why he didn't say to Luke that Leia was his sister. The hypnotist wasn't playing fair in that case.

 

Well technically the asian guy is a "jedi" but I think that at most IF he was mentioned then Kenobi would be the one to restructure the retreat signal from ROTS
.

 

I think Bail Organa's presence in this movie makes it a possibility. After all, it's his daughter who's sent to receive the transmission of the Death Star plans while also on a mission to recruit Obi-Wan.

 

Maybe we at least hear his voice ?

 

I think at most an indirect mention - possibly something vague such as how Leia must get the plans to an old hero/friend yada yada

 

If we analyse Princess Leia's hologram message:

General Kenobi. Years ago you served my father in the Clone Wars. Now he begs you to help him in his struggle against the Empire. I regret that I am unable to present my father's request to you in person, but my ship has fallen under attack, and I'm afraid my mission to bring you to Alderaan has failed. I have placed information vital to the survival of the Rebellion into the memory systems of this R2 unit. My father will know how to retrieve it. You must see this droid safely delivered to him on Alderaan. This is our most desperate hour. Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope.

My theory is that he will be mentioned, maybe indirectly by Bail Organa or someone from the Rebel Alliance - I'm more inclined that it will be Bail, since looking for Obi-Wan and taking him to Alderaan seems to be the second part of Princess Leia's mission. I don't expect an outright mention since so far, as we know by Rebels, the Empire has been hunting down Jedi survivors during all this time.

He is not a Jedi. He believes in the Force, but he is not Force-sensitive - as far as we know.

 

I doubt it. Old Ben appears legitimately shocked to hear the name "Obi-Wan." I don't think he was expecting any Rebel visitors.

 

I'd expect to have a mention like this - if any:

Bail: "The plans will be intercepted by my agent whose second part of the mission is to look for an old ally in the Outer Rim, and to bring him and the plans to Alderaan."

 

There could be an explanation for that. I guess anyone who had met him from before his exile would call him "Master Kenobi" or "General Kenobi" as Leia calls him on her hologram message.

I'm not saying it happens, but just watching TCW and ROTS I noticed that.

 

I hope he is mentioned but I think the jedi in general will.

i wonder if bail's game is bigger than that. i mean with all that was at stake, why take the time to bring in ben now, after all that has been happening up to this point? i'm guessing that by going to ben kenobi, bail was hoping he'd also bring along luke and then... idk maybe have ben train both luke and leia?

 

I would say generally the Rebel and Imperial forces are unaware of Obi-Wan's existence except the Rebel leadership and Palpy/Vader. He will have no part to play in the story, so I doubt they will name drop him.

 

I think Bail will have to name-drop Obi-Wan to Mon Mothma. That's how the Rebellion learns that he's still alive and sends the Tantive IV with Leah to ask for his aid. He's one of the few people that know that Obi-Wan and Yoda are still alive, but in exile.
At the end of ROTS, I don't believe Yoda mentioned where he was going to Bail. But, Obi-Wan said something along the lines of "I'll watch over the boy," so Bail knew he was going to be 'somewhere' on Tatooine, where Luke's aunt and uncle were.

 

I agree with @PrincessLeiaCB3 that there is a good chance Obi Wan is referenced. As she has pointed out, part of Leia's mission was to get Obi Wan. If R1 is ending as close to ANH as it as been speculated/ reported, it would make sense for the story to reference him.

That definitely could be a possibility. I think there are a few different ways they could reference him. It will depend on how subtle they want to be with the reference.

 

Maybe Jyn gets a new mission at the end of the movie to find him for Leia .
