SPECULATION Do you think Obi-Wan will be mentioned in R1?

Maybe Saw will mention Anakin, or even Ahsoka. I think it would be really cool if Ahsoka got name-dropped and brought into the world of the films, so as to create a greater sense of unity between TCW and the films.

 

I would have though at the time the bigger news would have still been where is Yoda, Jedi master still missing?
im not sure obi-wan was renowned by name?

 

I can't see that happening considering Leia appears to be going to find Obi Wan before the Tantive IV is overtaken by Vader's Star Destroyer. That mission was then given to R2 when she records the message to Obi Wan.

 

Maybe because Jyn is captured and/orfailed her mission so Leia takes it on herself to find him although it appears that Leia already knows where he is by ANH considering she is right above Tattooine basically

I am torn on this question. I agree that Bail could be the one to bring Obi's name on the big screen.

There is a part of me that doesn't want him to have anything to do with the movie. At the end of ROTS it is pretty clear that only few people know that he is alive. I think that Bail would keep it a secret as long as possible to protect Luke. It is my personal opinion that Leia at the start of NH doesn't know anything about Obi but once she knew that her ship was getting captured that is when Bail told her about Ben.

 

The thing is he doesn't have to be mentioned by name. Bail can say something like "once we get the plans, my daughter will contact an old friend who could really help our cause". We would all know who he was talking about without Bail giving away the secret of Obi Wan's existence.

 

I voted "no" without thinking this through. I do think Obi Wan will be mentioned and mentioned by Bail and/or Leia. By the time ANH starts, Leia was already on a mission to find him, so she was sent out just prior to those events. I can see Bail and Mon Mothma discussing back up plans in case the DS plans do not get stolen. They send Leia out just in case, to go get the one person Bail knows could help stop the Empire/Sith. Once the plans do get stolen, they send them to Leia and now the Rebels have the plans and are on course to get Ben; killing two birds.

 

I would like to see him mentions for his accomplishments during the clone wars, I know it was staged by Sidious but Obi Wan proved himself.

 

Makes me wonder what Bail's role in the movie will be and if we see him (albeit via hologram) communicating with Leia.

 

Did we ever find out who the young Jedi was that sacrificed himself to help bail escape?

I daresay I'm quite partial to that potential event.

I think Leia will be represented in some way - maybe by someone seen from behind wearing the famous white dress or in some other way.

I have similar thoughts. According Lea's hologram message, her mission was to bring him to Alderaan but failed when her ship came under attack. Given what we know from the end of ROTJ, Bail knew were Obi Wan was. Lea would know where to look hence the close proximity to Tatooine at the beginning. Vader gets to her before she gets to Ben. I think we may hear him being called Ben. Obi Wan since he himself said he hadn't been called that in a long time. I think he will be referenced in there someone where at the end if it brings us up to the beginning of ANH.

 

Can't imagine he would be.

MOTHMA: "We must get the Death Star plans!"
BAIL: "I spoke to Obi-Wan Kenobi last week."
MOTHMA: "Oh, how is he doing? Still watching that orphan baby from afar?"
BAIL: "Yeah."
MOTHMA: "That's nice."
BAIL: "He's managing."
MOTHMA: "Cool."
BAIL: "Said he killed a krayt dragon."
MOTHMA: "A krayt...?"
BAIL: "Dragon."
MOTHMA: "How nice for him."

Honestly, I think he kinda has to be mentioned at the end.
I mean, is there a canon explanation for why Leia knows his name?

 

If I had to guess, I'd say that it's because Bail Organa probably told her stories of TCW and him fighting with Kenobi and her father...omg what if the tv show is told as stories to Leia on Alderaan :O
