I was wondering if anyone thinks that this will be the BIG mans final score for STAR WARS or any other films due to health reasons. He has already talked about how grueling it is to score a film the way that he does it. They have helped him in any way possible to make it easier for him. The day's of the London Orchestra with him seems to be over but I think he is going out in style.

I said no... but I admit that may be more about the hopefulness on my part than any basis in fact.

Episode VIII is scheduled to come out nearly a year after TFA. If they do things right he can score it as well.

This is also based on hopefulness, but if he can't I will not blame him.

Given his age and health issues I don't have any expectations that he'll return for the rest of the trilogy, but I am hopeful TFA is not William's last work (Star Wars or otherwise).

Ideally he'll still have many years left with his family and a few more masterpieces (including the latter parts of the ST) yet to craft.

I voted no, as others have said out of hope, but if he has it in him I think he will do the other 2

I'm worried that most of the music will not be by Williams.

For The Force Awakens? I seriously doubt that would happen.

I gotta say the music in the trailer was my one nit pick. Glad to hear it wasn't Williams new stuff as he's still composing the film. But it does make me nervous about future star wars films. Hes 83 and just got a pace maker. Sounds like his poor health may have actually delayed his work on TFA. I hope he stays healthy and continues to work after TFA. No one can fill his shoes for star wars.

I'm nervous about future Star Wars films aswell. It's not easy to fill the shoes of Williams, for any composer.
I'm interested to see what Alexandre Desplat manages with Rogue One though. Obviously, that'll be a movie slightly outside of the saga, so I think it'll be fine, but it'll be very interesting nonetheless. I personally like Desplat so I'm not all that worried, but as I said, no-one can replace the Star Wars maestro himself.

Though, I must say that the I thought the trailermusic was fantastic. It's not the typical Williams style, which suprised me, but I still thought it was great.
At first, I thought it was Williams, because I heard a few months ago that he would score the trailer (maybe this changed due to his health issues). I was quite happy to hear him take a more modern approach, eventhough it was clear it wasn't only him working on the trailer. When the news hit that it wasn't him, I guess it didn't leave anyone suprised, but I actually had mixed feelings about it.

It's not the end of the world for other composers to take things over. Williams has left a lengthy musical canon to draw from and adapt. Other composers have done great work, such as Joel McNeely's Shadows of the Empire score, Kevin Kiner, and many of the LucasArts game composers have done excellent work.

My concern there is that these people only pull from his themes. When they write their own themes, they don't work nearly as well. When Williams writes a new theme for Star Wars it almost always immediately clicks for me and becomes part of the overall fabric of Star Wars music. Others can imitate using the themes Williams already crafted, but I have yet to say anyone else create a new theme for Star Wars that is in the least bit memorable.

This is even more noticeable in the incidental music. Most composers go for texture in the background of transition or action scenes and save developed themes only for pivotal moments. But Williams crafts highly enjoyable music even for the off moments that I could listen to as if it was its own piece. That is where he truly separates himself from all other film composers.

I really hope not or, at least, not his last score in general. Yes, he is 83 and got a pacemaker, but if he takes care of himself and if he doesn't have other health issues, there is no reason why he couldn't. At the very least, he could supervise or just compose and let someone else conduct the orchestra.

The most legitimate non-Williams music i've heard could be the KOTOR II soundtrack. The composer gave it this ominous feel, almost like a hybrid of the throne room music and the quieter moments on Hoth and Dagobah, really great work. Everyone here needs to play this underrated game. Pretty cheap on Steam at the mo ;)

He should still be able to write the music which is the most important thing. I couldn't even begin to get my head around the subtleties of composing so I'll never be able to comprehend that part of his talent but it's his songcrafting genius that I enjoy. Why couldn't he just write the music himself in a comfortable time and place and have others record and compose it?

I don't want it to be, but there is some intangible air of finality about the project. I think he's pouring everything in to one final great work.

John isn't just doing this for the paycheck, he isn't doing it because he's obliged to.. I believe he genuinely wants this music to be more advanced/mature than the original trilogy. The amount of homework he did to get The Phantom Menace sounding more primitive than A New Hope is masterful.

I personally think he wants this to be his masterpiece.
