Does anyone care about the characters that are left for Episode IX?

I do ....

 

I do care about Rey and Kylo.
I don't care that much about Poe, Finn and Rose.

 

I do like the new characters, but the OT 3 still reign supreme. While I like and enjoy the new 3, I am not "riveted", although I am hoping JJ can pull off something epic.


I think one big problem with the new 3 is that...they've hardly had any time TOGETHER so we don't get a sense of their relationships like we did with the OT3. Rey just met Poe and reunited with Finn at the end of TLJ. Poe and Finn shared hardly any bromance time in TLJ. Luke/Rey's relationship was starting to get interesting but now he will only appear as a Force Ghost, which isn't the same. ESB served Han/Leia and Luke/Leia well, where the nature of Luke/Han's friendship was pretty clear in ANH.


Here's where I stand...

Finn...LOVED Finn in TFA, felt he wasn't used to his potential in TLJ. Like the guy a lot, will look forward to seeing him again, but not riveted.
Rey...Liked her in TFA, I think Daisy does a great job...but sadly she did not suffer/face enough challenges in TLJ for me to really connect with her. Things still come to easy to her and she is too powerful for no reason. The Nobody plot takes away from anticipation and speculation. Her strongest relationships were with the 0T3, and with them being gone, I am not as invested in her character since I assume Finn will be preoccupied with Rose. I am interested in how she might interact with Poe. Like her, she has a lot of potential. I want to see her flaws and struggles, but not riveted.
Poe...I am most excited about seeing what happens with Poe in the new film. He has the biggest potential for character development a cocky hotshot steps forward to probably take a leadership role. I look forward to seeing more of him and Finn and curious how will interact with Rey.
Rose...Like her but they need to drop the "eeeevil casino 1%" crap.
Kylo...I can't stand him as a character but that is probably a good thing! He is a villain I love to hate and in this way and the actor does a great job. I am curious to see how he handles his new connection with Rey and whether he will go full mustache twirling or redemption arc.
BB8-Always happy to see more of this rotund lil droid.


Who I REALLY want to see more of...
Bel Toro...boy was he fun to watch. There is so much they can do with this character.
Phasma could return. That armor is pretty powerful...

Is Hux really that much of a main character? He is just a general who doesn't do much important....

 

He's important enough. He hates his new master even more. That opens up some very interesting dynamics.

I also looked forward to Tally Lintra, but those bastards killed her off in the first act. Disney is murdering all my favourite characters and that includes TR-8R!

 

Have no feeling either way for ant of the new characters except for Kylo Ren. He has a bright future, that one.

 

Only three. , but I won't be watching any more so-called new "Star Wars" films.

 

I do. Most of all I am ready for this trilogy to end so we can move past all this story retread and get to something new.

Looks like we've found the people who already hate this movie before it's even started production.

This really made me laugh, partially because I hope it actually happens XD.
I do however still care about Kylo, Rey, Finn and Poe (and Luke's Force Ghost). The characters have flaws and some need to be more fleshed out but they're still pretty good characters.
I just hope it's a satisfying ending that leads to new and more original stories for episodes X-XII

I've asked those questions about Rey, but I don't find them all that compelling. Honestly, at this point I figure most won't be answered. If she gets signed beyond the ST, it might be interesting to see her go dark. If not, who knows what they'll do with her. I don't expect JJ or anyone to go into her past. I don't expect much from her parents or how it will affect her in IX. She doesn't seem to struggle much with light or dark, she just does. As for her embodiment of Luke's legacy, I think she'll do what she thinks is best, so far her instincts are pretty spot on, why not keep going with that. The only thing that interests me about Rey is if they (JJ, KK, writers, creative team) will actually let her fail at something. Not "you love too much" as her flaw, but actually make a mistake with tangible consequences that effects her character. Even then, I'm not that interested even in that anymore. She's some sort of prophet or messiah, following the path of the Force and simply doesn't do anything wrong that doesn't turn out right "by the will of the Force". She's the embodiment of what is true and right, and therefor is bland.

I liked Finn in TFA, but now I've lost my mojo on his story after TLJ. Diddo for Poe. Hux is not redeemable imo. BB8 lost me in TLJ. It would be cool to see R2 have an expanded role, but I seriously doubt it. The ST has been consistently split between Kylo and Rey, and for long stretches are the only story that is compelling in TLJ. Everyone else is killed off.

So no, I'm not that interested, but I have to confess that I'm still rubber necking to see how bad the crash is. I'm hoping it turns out alright.
