No, it doesn't make sense. Especially when the 'so called' parents left in a ship.
All it does is add to her sue-ness and makes the character crave attention from others, ie Kylo Ren.
It was shallow and I am glad Rian Johnson isn't writing her anymore.

Ok, so she was made a speeder from spare parts. I already knew this. You stated she was doing nothing but surviving because in this new type of slavery you need to scavenge parts to sell for food.

She had surplus spare parts that she didn't need to sell Unkar Plutt.

So we have to redefine the word sold, property, and slave to make the story match what was shown in TFA versus what was spoken in TLJ.

Why even say your parents "sold" you for drinking money. Could have just stated your parents were drunks and left you on Jakku. It means the same thing. Either either way she is no one in either case.

It just seems like it all is a setup for the next attempt at a gotcha plot twist.

Her parents sold her off for drinking money and Lor San Tekka paid her off to set her free.

Why was he there in the first place anyways? :) Maybe to look out for Rey just as Obi Wan did to Luke.

Left where in a ship? You're jumping to a conclusion of your own on that one.

It's odd to me that Rey can't be strong in the force unless she shares DNA with Anakin Skywalker. Are Yoda and Luke distantly related?

she doesn't have to be connected to anyone, but her backstory could've been used to explain her powers. Simply saying "the force chose her" is lazy writing and it causes a disconnect in terms of relating to the hero.

Since TLJ is truly great film, with sense for deatils, obvious after 4th watching to me, this Rey drunkard parents stick out if true.

Not complete truth though, its Dark side twist of the truth.

    Waiting ep IX.

Dude, she doesn't HAVE to share DNA with any established character. They just had a chance to use her backstory to explain why the eff she can do any and everything. RJ didn't care about that as it would take away from the skype sessions. So now we have a main character that is uber for NO REASON. No training, no struggle, no effort. How is anyone supposed to feel suspense when she's in danger? Not even superman is written so carelessly. The "force explanation" is also ridiculous. Why is rey kylo's counterpart? Wasn't snoke SOOOOOOOO OMG powerful? how come rey isn't the force's answer to him? Why is luke not kylo's counterpart? Why is this trilogy so goddamned lazy when it comes to its lore?

There is no cake. They could just write a character that has to actually earn their power. That would take some actual writing though. You think the matrix would be so well regarded if Neo started the movie off by stopping bullets in mid air?

I'm not even engaging in your argument about what constitutes quality writing.
You just fallaciously conflate the fact you don't like the explanation with an absence of explanation; i.e. you can either have the cake or eat it - not both.

    what question?
    --- Double Post Merged, Dec 30, 2017, Original Post Date: Dec 30, 2017 ---
It is lazy writing. Thats why any hero's story worth anything has the hero earn their power. Making your hero godlike out the gate is amateur level. Simply using the force as a plot device is pure laziness and they've already written themselves into a corner by doing it. You like the explanation so you take issue with the simple fact of it being sub par writing. This is why the mary sue complaints have exploded beyond anything we saw in TFA. I also laid out why "the force chose her" is flawed because the force didn't choose any counter balance for snoke or palpatine or any of the other countless powerful force users. Its lazy writing. There is no cake.

"Darkness rises and Light to meet it."
"All is as the force wills it."

People bought space Jesus and some "chosen one" prophecy, but a young woman from a desert planet is some kind of reach?

Obviously her parents were drunk when they sold her for drinking money. That's the only way it would make sense to do that.
