I have seen many people talking about Finn and asking many questions but I have yet to see anybody ask if Finn is going to need any cybernetic parts or if they are even going to explain to us how he will be able to walk. The reason I mention this of course is because of that nasty lightsaber slash that Kylo Ren gave Finn in his back during their battle.

How can Finn simply be walking around after that? Now before anyone goes all negative quotey on me without any reason, lets see what SW has shown us so far. Let's take a look at Luke during the Sarlacc battle.

When we look at the battle from ROTJ, we can see that Luke killed a whole bunch of dudes by just slashing them with his lightsaber. He didn't have to cut any of their limbs off but just give them a little cut. Not all of them fell off the skiff as you guys can clearly see that there's a dead Weequay on the second skiff as well as a couple of dead guys on the sail barge floor. Sure, we all knew back then that Luke had indeed offed those dorks but I know that in these days, everyone wants to justify everything one way or another and there is always going to be someone that's going to try to say things like ''We really don't know if those guys died cause maybe they were just unconscious.'' Sure why not right? Let's entertain the notion that they were in fact ''unconscious'' and not just dead as everybody I have ever known has thought.
If any of those guys did in fact survive, those dudes would really have needed surgery. A lightsaber cut does not automatically render you unconscious as we have all seen this before. Luke, Anakin, Zam Wesell, Count Dooku and Mace Windu all lost a limb to a lightsaber and none of them went unconscious. Heck! Even Darth Maul who was cut in half didn't go unconscious! This is clear proof that for you to take a lightsaber cut and go unconscious, it has to be in a fatal way. And yes, Anakin did go unconscious in his battle against Dooku but he was Force pushed against the floor right after his arm had been cut off. So knowing all of this, when we see what Kylo did to Finn, we have to ask ourselves if Disney is really going to play it off by saying that Kylo just grazed him? Finn was slashed in his darn spine for crying out loud! Not only that but the wound was so nasty that he never got up for the rest of the movie! Don't tell me a simple graze is going to do that to him cause that's really stretching it. Is Bacta so powerful at healing that all they have to do is dunk Finn in a tank and walah! Fixed spine and fixed nervous sistem! I know that Disney now ownes SW and it was very clear that they are playing a new ball game as TFA streched many of the things we knew before but man! Is it really going to go as far as ignoring Finn's spinal injury completly?

I am wondering this myself. IF the movie picks up where TFA left off there wouldn't be any possible way for him to be up and moving in a couple of days. Unless after the opening scene the movie skips a couple of months but I don't see that happening. Oh and he gets a cybernetic spine.

Well remember that SW typically takes place in real time and we don't know the true extents of Finn's injuries besides knowing he will be okay so if the movie takes place over the span of a month or so then he will have plenty of time to heal.

I really think it would take more than just a month to heal a broken or severely damaged spine yet I also have to say that since this is Disney we are talking about, I have no idea how they will treat both the use of Bacta and the efficiency of Medical Droids.

Considering we have breakthrough surgeries to help people walk and stuff in limited amounts of time NOW imagine how Star Wars is with health stuff .

But could there really be many breakthroughs in the field of medicine in the SW galaxy with everything that has been going on? I mean, look at Luke's hand. He doesn't even have synthetic skin on it anymore. You would think that after so many years since ESB, their would be advances but there don't seem to be any. My guess is that with all the conflicts of defeating the Empire, rebuliding the republic, facing the New Order ect, it would be very hard for our hero's to get their hands on advanced medical supplies or tech. The Resistance looked even weaker than the Rebelion and they had even less droids and ships. Look at the main battles of both ANH vs TFA. When the Rebels fought the first Death Star, they went with all these ships:
    Battle_of_Yavin.png
You can count 30 ships in this pic.
Now look at how tiny the Death Star is versus Starkiller Base.
    !!! 2016-05-12 02_05_06-Capture.png
Now look at the battle against Starkiller.

It would be crazy to attack something so massive with just a few ships yet during this battle you can count 13 ships. That's less than half of the ships that battled the first Death Star. That goes to show us how bad things were for the Resistance. If they didn't even have enough ships to properly battle said threat, that can show us how ill prepared they are and that leads us to wonder if in fact they have the medical supplies to treat a wound like the one Finn has in such a short amount of time.

He got slashed up the back. It was traumatic enough to his body to put him in a coma and if the movie picks up where it left off then Finn should still be lying on his back at the base. From the time Rey left the base to finding Luke it was, I'm guessing here, maybe a few hours at the least to a few days at the most.
Granted a lot of things in SW are unreal and unexplainable, this could be one of them.

What if they make finn a cybernetic vest to help with his spine? It seems pluasible to me because vader had a cybernetic suit for his really severe burns but instead of a suit just this vest thing that helps with his spine. Do you guy's know what I mean?

That would be a good idea. Having a cybernetic vest to aid him while he heals would be great instead of having Finn appear all fine and dandy in the next movie as if nothing had happened.

Eh, just stick him in a Bacta tank, he'll get over it.

    ...

Does the resistance have Bacta Tanks?

Do we even know his spine was injured? I thought the gash was more off to the side. If the saber cut through his rib cage and damaged one of his lungs, then they would likely need to keep him in an induced coma so they could keep him on a respirator. But that wouldn't necessarily indicate the need implants of any kind. Just waiting for the ribs and lungs to heal until he can breath on his own again..

Oh it was his spine all right and it was really nasty!

It looks even nastier if you play it in slow motion. Here, have a look at it yourself.

In any form of reality Finn absolutely DOES need cybernetic replacements or atleast a new spinal cord implant. However the fact that he's already laying ON HIS BACK at the ambulance shows that the movies doesn't give a blast about that. Sad really...

we don't know what the underside of that bed/table looks like. all the necessary medical apparatuses might actually be below. just because he was wounded in the back doesn't mean he has to lay on his stomach for them to treat him.

frida khalo spent much of her life in bed with a spinal injury and she laid on her back:

I don't think he needs cybernetic parts even from seeing that because he needs to simply recover...one thing that I haven't seen anyone theorize is Finn was put into a medically-induced coma while he heals.

Dude Finn went into a coma from the moment Kylo sliced his back and he never got up for the rest of the movie! That was no medically-induced coma that was a crossguard lightsaber to the back-induced coma!

I meant that, in trying to save him, he was put into a medically induced coma byt doing whatever the star wars equivalent of reducing your body's temperature in ice or whatever in order to help him heal because the cut would have to be deep enough from Ben's saber to go all the way to his spine for him to get cybernetic enhancements...if he does get them, though, he will probably get them installed directly into his spine otherwise there will be plenty of comparisons to movies like the "bald matt damon" movie, Avatar, etc.

Bacta tanks do wonders we see that in previous movies and in the comics and books.
    --- Double Post Merged, Jun 23, 2016, Original Post Date: Jun 23, 2016 ---

Just because he got sliced in his back does not mean that he was immediately knocked into a coma. He could have simply been unconscious as many people go following a traumatic injury. Not saying that he did not go into a coma but that's not typically what I see in medical issues. Granted we do not have light sabers in 2016, so I'm not sure what type of action they have on the body other than calderises (spelling I know is off) the wound.

My friend, if Finn had simply been unconscious, wouldn't he have woken up by the time Rey was about to leave to go find Luke? Finn bit it on Starkiller, he was out of it all the way to the Resistance base. They hurried him to give him medical treatment, Rey took a bath, must have planned with Chewie and Leia where she was going so that Chewie would take her in the Falcon, gotten her supplies and STILL Finn was KO. When you look up the definition of coma you get this: a state of prolonged unconsciousness, including a lack of response to stimuli, from which it is impossible to rouse a person. That's exactly what happened to Finn. He hit the ground after Kylo sliced him and he was out for the count for the rest of the movie.
