Considering you brought Thrawn into a conversation about about Hux maybe you should explain that.

Please don't say we're trying to compare Hux and Thrawn...

They're different characters made for very different purposes.

You might as well say "Wow, Han sure is mouthy. Imagine Mon Mothma getting away with calling people those names!"

They're military leaders of the empire / fake empire 1st order ?

    Right ?

One is a badass admiral, the other is a complete dumb Gimp general.

How can you take the 1st order seriously ?

But you sure will come with a OMG there is nothing to compare between these two ? How can you do that ? This is soooooooooooooooooo different.

    Whatever.

Donald Trump is the leader of a nation.

Abraham Lincoln was the leader of a nation.

I'm sure they are wildly similar. Other than in general broad strokes. Right?

They are different characters. One is there because he is hyper-competent and a brilliant strategist. The other is there because he's an easy to manipulate hot head who is never a threat to the real leader.

Nice try but Trump is the bully not the victim.

Once a POTUS should be dragged to the floor, slapped in his face, beaten, I can change my mind

I know he has been spanked by Stormy but it was a deleted scene :D

You're right. It's more Darcy-Collins from Pride and Prejudice with Hux being like Collins. Their characters even sort of match.

Well if we are going to stick to the Civil War analogy (wait - why are the bad guys given union metaphors?!?) it's more Grant - McClellan :p

    That's not how metaphors works.
    It's not a literal comparison.

Trump is seen as a joke of a leader around the world. He commands very little respect and adoration outside of mostly sycophants.

Lincoln is one of the most revered and beloved figures in American history and his image alone provokes incredibly positive thoughts and has an incredibly positive connotation.

Two very different people who have very different standards of how they are viewed, behave and standards.

The Thrawn/Lincoln, Hux/Grant comparison is actually really spot on.

    Well done!

    Even better!

    Burnside would probably fit, too.

Or, if we're going to cross sides, I could see Hux as a George Pickett, too.

Ulysses S Grant was the last General of the Union forces in the US Civil War. He is often credited (especially among modern historians) with turning the tide for the Union, who up until then was struggling vs the undermanned and under equipped Confederacy due to the Union's lack of a strong leader.

George B McClellan was the predecessor to Grant who was largely a failure as a war time leader and his place in history is largely marked by such and directly tied to how fast Grant was able to stack victories in comparison.

Grant and McClellan were two union generals who fought during the American Civil War.
    • Grant was all business: he got the job done and no butts about it no matter how dirty he had to fight (actually Sherman may even be a better comparison for Tarkin here, @RoyleRancor).
    • McClellan liked the trappings of being a general and aspired to be a politician (even President). he was very intelligent and capable, but slow to send men to battle and didn't like getting his uniform dirty.

Sherman's March To the Sea is 100% a Tarkin move.
Hell, let's be honest, so many Imperial Officers/Leaders pull off his comparison hahaha

OK. I don't know american civil war because I'm not american but I don't see how Grant can be compared to Hux. Tarkin has nothing to do with Hux. Maybe Lloyd Christmas at some point but the best to compare is Pulp Fiction's Gimp.

The Fort Donelson "unconditional surrender" sounds like an early underdog Thrawn story, too.

He's not who Grant is being compared to. Grant is Thrawn in that analogy.
Hux is more akin to McClellan. Loves the idea of being the leader and hero but isn't.
